Aibu?

I am shopping at Asda I am really missing Ocado I miss their range and the customer service but it is far far too expensive

I have reduced my food spend, and am sticking with Ocado.

I have stopped the gousto deliveries and use their recipe cards to meal plan.
DH eats a lot of veggie food which is cheaper and I buy and cook for all of us in batches and freeze it (we all eat different things - autistic DD, veggie husband and I want to eat other things). It saves time and money (once you accept three different meals each evening), but does take a bit of planning.

I also use the lowest price option on Ocado but often this lies! So worth scrolling through every option.

mrs55 · 04/10/2022 13:38

Ok I’ve now downloaded the Ocado app let me know your favourite items from their own range

You'll have to pry my Ocado Love from my cold, dead hands. I may end up barely affording my burnt-out oil drum for a dwelling, but Jesus in the Cabbage Van will still show up with my groceries.

And it's true, I dabble in Lidl. But Ocado is my food shop ride or die 4lyf.

Hehehe this really tickled me

I use Ocado sometimes. If you shop carefully and use bundles and offers it’s v competitive. Like the flash sale too - amend and checkout and lots of half price come up especially near cut off.

This makes me really happy for you and I'm sad but:

Red grapes are excellent
Pitta breads
Tinned beans like borlotti etc
Mozzarella
Sultanas raisins etc
Hummus
All of their organic stuff was really good
Wraps

Other things

Jackson's bread
Natoora deli meats
Daylesford meats
Black farmer meats
Natoora I love the fruits but sometimes they were a bit old though they always refund

God I'm going to have to download the app to remind myself and I'll come back to you

Few weeks ago I ordered a 2 litre tin of EV olive oil that was on offer half price. They ran out and substituted with a 3 litre tin not then on offer - but gave the same discount. I was mightily impressed.

Also, I forget the name but they sell a type of seeded loaf that is so good every slice feels like a week at a billionaire Swiss health resort.

But tbh it’s the seamlessness of the app itself that’s half the attraction.

bruffin · 04/10/2022 13:55

It hasn't been the same since M&S, now lacks choice and stuff never in stock

MissFancyDay · 04/10/2022 13:57

I always get Ocado chicken breasts, they are very good value and nicer than Waitrose. I also always get Ocado veg, it's just as nice in my opinion.

Like others, I am reducing Ocado to once every three weeks. I really don't want to lose my valued customer status, it was invaluable during covid and it is just so much better than the other supermarket deliveries. I get all the family basics from Asda, but thinking of switching to Sainsbury's based on this thread.

Yes the chicken is very good quality not watery so you use less. It was on offer 2 packs for something I forget recently so very competitive price too.
No substitutes either.
I stopped using Asda as do many subs or poor quality.

Yes, you are right, it hadn't occurred to me before. Ocado chicken doesn't shrink so much when you fry it so you do use less.

pipplepopplepie · 04/10/2022 14:06

I've given up on Ocado since they switched it to M&S kept finding myself in a waitrose store. I do understand though. I seriously miss when I could shove everything on an Ocado order and have it magically appeared at the front door each week.

AriettyHomily · 04/10/2022 14:08

Ocado hasn't been great for us, we have had some ridiculous substitutions although their customer service has always been great.

We now have Sainsburys delivery and I end up in Waitrose more times than I'd like during the week.

Garysmum · 04/10/2022 14:11

Is it just me - but I find certain things are cheaper at ocado than Sainsburys. Some staples and some branded products too.
As a result my Sainsburys shop is cheaper but not by that much.

OldTinHat · 04/10/2022 14:11

£350 A WEEK????? Is this a joke? Are you feeding staff for a mansion or a small village??

Seriously??? £350 a week???

Filleto · 04/10/2022 14:13

procrastinatingtree · 04/10/2022 12:46

If you stop shopping there then occasionally they'll send an offer for free delivery and 25% off your shop! I just get an order when I get that offer

I stopped shopping there and they’ve never tried to lure me back with any offers. I used to spend £130 a week there for years and years but they don’t seem to have missed me at all 😭

bruffin · 04/10/2022 14:16

This week my substitution was aubergines for aubergines. But instead of £1.44 for 2 I got charged £6. They got sent back as well as the diet coke which was instead of normal.
Other supermarkets charge original price or by give a voucher but ocado don't

wobblyweasel · 04/10/2022 14:18

I ditched Ocado when they moved to M&S, and just order direct from Waitrose. I do top up shops at Tesco/Lidl. I won’t order from Sainsburys as the substitutions are awful! Last Christmas I ordered a Christmas card and got sent a tin of soup as a substitute!

IrisVersicolor · 04/10/2022 14:36

No it went pants when they shifted to M&S, that’s when they lost me.

I now do 2 weeks Sainsbury’s, 2 weeks Waitrose and 1 Ocado.

I also like using the current offers against future orders. DH had missed it and thought I was some super hacker 😂

I don't get this, what does using the offers against future orders mean?

MarianneVos · 04/10/2022 15:05

It's like if you book future orders eg for in 2 weeks

Decafflatteplease · 04/10/2022 15:12

Oops pressed send too soon. The orders delivered will be at the offer price they were when you placed them even if they are not on offer by the time you get them delivered. I think that's it anyway!

Zebedee55 · 04/10/2022 15:22

With the home delivery, all the supermarkets put me on a "priority" list during Covid, (shielded), and I still get free delivery on some, although I pay Delivery Saver on others.. I bat about between them all, sorting out what I want, week by week, and what's on offer.

We like M&S, so Ocado good with that.

And, Ocado did release some Xmas delivery slots this week, and I have got one for Christmas Eve.👍

Depends what you want, and how much you want to pay, I suppose.

AllThatHoopla · 04/10/2022 16:08

I don't get this, what does using the offers against future orders mean?

It means that if cornflakes are on offer today, you can schedule an order for way in the future and put the cornflakes in your basket and you will get them for the offer price even though they won't be on offer any more when your order arrives.

BarbaraofSeville · 04/10/2022 19:57

I now need to know what's so special about Natoora.

I had no idea what it was so looked on Ocado and found what looks like a standard 50 p head of broccoli, but it's three pounds. Bunches of grapes for £6.95. Lemons for over £1 each. Cured meat at £5+ for a few slivers.

And the reviews of most of them are terrible, but I think we have our answer as to why the OP is spending £350 a week. Everything she buys is the same as normal food, but five times the price.

OP, get yourself on Eat Well for Less. They'll blind taste your £3 broccoli against the one that everyone else pays 50 pence for, and you'll see whether or not it's really worth the extra.

Thanks, I had no idea about that, sounds great!
