Aibu?

I am shopping at Asda I am really missing Ocado I miss their range and the customer service but it is far far too expensive

OP posts:
NashvilleQueen · 04/10/2022 20:16

Ocado didn't ditch waitrose AFAIK it was the other way around.

OP I think you've had a hard time overall. I love Ocado. Have used them for a good 7 years and no one else comes close. I miss Waitrose but for customer service, reliability and timeliness ocado can't be beaten.

I bought some lean diced steak from a cheaper shop much loved by many to make a stir fry tonight. It was inedible. So tough to eat we just ate the noodles and veg. It cost over £6 for two packs. Yes I end up paying more at ocado but the quality is always spot on and I know if I had a complaint they'd refund me the money no questions asked.

Pearfacebanana · 04/10/2022 20:23

£350 a week.
WTAF are you eating? Caviar and champagne breakfast?!
I buy lots of brands, booze and expensive treats and am nowhere near this.

HermioneWeasley · 04/10/2022 20:26

Depending on where you live @cultkid , have you tried Morrisons online? Ocado do most of their fulfillment, so you get their service at Morrisons prices, and as a previous poster said, their meat and seafood is excellent.

Lemons1571 · 04/10/2022 20:39

We tried Ocado twice in their early days. The first time the driver was 3 hours late and exclaimed that he hasn’t realised we lived near Bristol (we are about 80 miles from Bristol!). The second time we tried them they never turned up at all. So we gave up. We’re not exactly rural. They must have upped their game though if you all like them.

We do Asda now. Their bagged iceberg lettuce lasts. The sainsburys bags barely get out of the pallet before the iceberg is turning brown. Morrison’s isn’t bad but the range is a bit limited.

I now need to know what's so special about Natoora.

I had no idea what it was so looked on Ocado and found what looks like a standard 50 p head of broccoli, but it's three pounds. Bunches of grapes for £6.95. Lemons for over £1 each. Cured meat at £5+ for a few slivers.

And the reviews of most of them are terrible, but I think we have our answer as to why the OP is spending £350 a week. Everything she buys is the same as normal food, but five times the price.

OP, get yourself on Eat Well for Less. They'll blind taste your £3 broccoli against the one that everyone else pays 50 pence for, and you'll see whether or not it's really worth the extra.

Natoora turmeric hummus, watercress tzatziki mmm…

IrisVersicolor · 04/10/2022 21:14

@NashvilleQueen Ocado did ditch Waitrose.

It's not just about taste, the Natoora products are supposed to be seasonal from sustainable farms and bought at a price that is fair to farmers.

If you are in London, @cultkid, they do have some stores and are stocked in some Waitrose/Whole Foods Markets. I've just remember, they also do delivery but it is not cheap... We used them a couple of times during lockdown.

worriedniece · 04/10/2022 21:19

What is OCADO? Is it online shopping for waitrose and if so, why don't they call it Waitrose?

MuddlerInLaw · 04/10/2022 21:21

What is OCADO?

Seriously?

TheRubyRedshoes · 04/10/2022 21:25

@ThrowingSomeCrumbs I would be greatful to know how you do this please?

I've used ocado for years and I'm a 100% fan.
They have some issues rarely and instantly gave me vouchers.
Rare subs.
I much prefer m and s food but prefer Waitrose meat.

DSGR · 04/10/2022 21:30

I did miss Ocado but the prices got silly and also, I don’t want their plastic bags! It infuriated me that they didn’t offer bagless delivery. I know they recycle them but it’s all such a waste.
I now shop between Waitrose and Sainsburys home delivery and pick up odd bits in M&S

byvirtue · 04/10/2022 21:51

I was a die hard Ocado fan but like others I prefer Waitrose to M&S. I haven’t switched to Waitrose as I find all supermarket online platforms utter crap, except Ocado…. But Ocado price increases have been eye watering. I now shop at Aldi, grow my own fruit and veg and do a once a month Ocado shop.

queenofarles · 04/10/2022 21:53

Natoora produce are not always fresh neither are Daylesford, most veg and fruits are sad looking .

Bayley&sage are the Best , but sadly they don’t do any online orders, but I don’t mind as it’s always nice to go and shop there.

those who are saying they hate Ocado now because of M&S may I know why? I don’t find Waitrose to be any better. I feel quality is not as it was , but people still shop there because it’s supposed to be the best but it’s not.

I spend around £80 a week for a family of 4
That works out at a little over £2.85 per person per day. What are you feeding them?

They have lunch at school and we have one take away a week.
Cereal and toast for breakfast for the kids. Yoghurt for me and a breakfast bar for partner.
Meal plan every meal. Not helped by half the house being vegetarian! This week is:

-Burger, skinny fries and homemade coleslaw.
-Chicken / halloumi tacos.
-Spaghetti and tomato sauce with mozzarella
-pie, mashed carrot and mashed potato
-tofu & vegetable egg fried rice
-nachos, home made guacamole and refried beans

pinkberet · 04/10/2022 22:06

For anyone here who can't afford Ocado, I discovered today that Tesco spaghetti is 23p whilst Lidl's is 65p.

Otherwise, Lidl tends to be cheaper.

last time someone put their aldi/lidl list on here ocado came out cheaper!

Eeksteek · 04/10/2022 22:25

M and S is just different. They sell different stuff. I really like some of their stuff (the rhubarb cordial, ricotta and spinach ravioli and quiches are my lunches of choice!) but their double Gloucester is horrible (Aldi’s is fine) I also love Waitrose’s green thai chicken curry and pork and mozzarella meatballs. If I ever have disposable income again, I shall alternate. I’ve no been so promiscuous in my shopping habits, that I could now happily got to about four supermarkets weekly for various preferences!

MuddlerInLaw · 04/10/2022 22:43

But they won’t deliver to my door?!

🤷🏻‍♀️

pinkberet · 04/10/2022 22:43

cultkid · 04/10/2022 10:46

Urgh I can't justify it was spending at least £350 a week on groceries it's down to about £250 between Asda and sainsburys and the quality is so much worse I'm so sad about it now that the weather is worse too. Food is such a comfort for us. I really miss the fruit, natoora and their excellent range. I know it's a shit thing to moan about but I am angry because we have a good household income but because things are so uncertain I really do want to save that £400 at least per month
I am so sad about it

@bruffin

I shopped for my family of five at £50 at Lidl last week.
Not because I chose to. Because I had to.

P0MP0M · 04/10/2022 22:49

I'm autistic and have ADHD and also have physical disabilities so I really rely on Ocado because they actually deliver what they say they will deliver 99% of the time. And if they do substitute an item sometimes (once every couple of weeks) it is to another sensible item. They turn up when they say they will with what they are meant to bring. It costs money I can't really afford but I can't go to physical supermarkets and all other online deliveries I have tried do not work properly so this seems to be my only option.

P0MP0M · 04/10/2022 22:52

They have lunch at school

Well then for an accurate comparison you should add the cost of that on top!

procrastinatingtree · 05/10/2022 06:39

Meal plan every meal. Not helped by half the house being vegetarian!

Or to put it differently

Not helped by half the family eating meat!

Stop blaming vegetarians, it's cheaper to eat veggie anyway

procrastinatingtree · 05/10/2022 06:40

It's more expensive and there is nowhere near the range of products

Is this thread serious of a joke?

I genuinely can’t work it out.

I can't decide either if it's tongue in cheek or not.
