I miss the Waitrose
products at Ocado, but have adjusted.

I don’t find it that expensive but I check nearly everything every week. I have regulars set up which go into the basket and I edit and look up most things even milk we vary between a couple of brands. we switched to the M&S organic milk to save money, but if Yeo on offer will go back to it that week.

DH was convinced could save money on our weekly shop but he went around 3 supermarkets to get everything only saved £10 and it took him 3 hours and petrol costs! So he agreed we could keep the Ocado.

we pop into Aldi once a month to get some things eg. Biscuits and cereals for the DC. Also pop into Tesco and look at offers but we don’t get many products cheaper than Ocado. It’s been less recently, maybe £20 or £30 worth of stuff saving a few pounds.

we also have Amazon subscribe and save for toiletries and some groceries. If you have minimum 5 products it is 15% discount. I do check the prices against Ocado for each month’s deliveries.

I’ve switched from sainsburys/m&s to Aldi and saved a small fortune (family of ten!) I miss it but it’s so much cheaper it’s worth it for us.

HelloSunshine11 · 04/10/2022 12:16

I thought our food bills were high :/

We still use ocado. There are three of us and a cat, two of us WFH so are here all day every day. H is partial to a steak and has salmon for lunch most days. Our bill is probably 150 a week, ish. How many people are in your household that you're spending so much?!

Hedonism · 04/10/2022 12:16

Ocado is rubbish now Waitrose has gone.

Jarstastic · 04/10/2022 12:17

Decafflatteplease · 04/10/2022 11:16

We use ocado but can't really afford it but are slowly decreasing the amount we buy on our ocado order and I'm supplementing with Asda / Aldi / Lidl in the week

It's definitely not as good since they ditched Waitrose.

I would like to fully switch to cheaper shops but ocado is great, reliable, the app is fab for adding stuff asi remember I need it. Smart pass worth the money I think.

Also I'm quite savvy about it and hunt for bargains and good deals and I like the fact you can use the current offers in your next few shops (if I'm explaining that well). Also for basics alot of it is fairly comparable to other shops especially the everyday range.

I also like using the current offers against future orders. DH had missed it and thought I was some super hacker 😂

luxxlisbon · 04/10/2022 12:17

I alternate between Ocado and Asda. Ocado is much better, much nicer food, quick free delivery slots and most importantly I never ever have missing items!
Asda is better for branded items, stocking up on nappies, cleaning products etc but it feels a bit shit in comparison.

PAFMO · 04/10/2022 12:18

I tend to think the "I can feed 16 people with £8 at Lidl" threads far more boastful tbf.
I love Ocado, I love M&S and I love Waitrose. I did an online shop for DD at uni from Sainsbury's and 10 things were substituted which was ridiculous (I know it was my fault for thinking well, a red pepper will be substituted for a yellow or green (they sent a mango)) but still, it was too many.

Shiboleth1 · 04/10/2022 11:23

This is the weirdest stealth boast.

Gross isn’t it

Especially the sentence about it being so unfair she can’t use them when her husband works so hard

🙄

Shinyhappyperson22 · 04/10/2022 12:31

I’ve used Ocado because they sent me offers. Only two of us and with an offer it isn’t much different to Aldi/Asda etc these days.

i am shopping around a bit more with deliveries and supermarkets because I don’t feel any are much cheaper than the other any more.

cultkid · 04/10/2022 12:35

I think I'll do an Ocado for the bits I love and try Asda as a supplement this week and see how it goes
It's not a stealth boast.

Just how the style and beauty isn't or when people post looking for a house for 2 million pounds
Where it isn't relevant why don't you not post instead of posting something abrasive? It might make your day better @Shiboleth1

There are five of us, three in nappies/ night pants and then a baby who has formula and baby food, I don't make it for her I use ready food for her.

I have a huge hungry man too in the house and food is our hobby.

OP posts:
cultkid · 04/10/2022 12:37

I also used to do that with loads of things order in for the next like 5/6 deliveries for things we used a lot of

Maybe Asda is high because I'm trying to comfort buy. I use their barista oat milk now and it's the same as the califia in my opinion in taste so I save about £10 a week on oat but think I'm buying other junk I don't need or like.

Their bread is so hit and miss isn't it?

Also me I find it bitter and offensive nobody goes and grudges someone looking for a bag for £1,000 so why is it such a fire cracker when people talk about food.

I live in an Ocado wilderness, cry for me 🙄

Me too. After I moved ( to this desert) they kept sending me emails trying to entice me back. I did ask them when they might be commencing deliveries to this cultural wilderness, bit no plans.

cultkid · 04/10/2022 12:40

@FuzzyPuffling if only!!!

AllThatHoopla · 04/10/2022 12:41

I'm going back to them in November after six months with sainsburys.

Every meal is fucked up as there are so many substitutions.

Omg yes! Every time I read a thread on here with someone complaining about their standard of life when their HUSBAND works so hard, or brags about how much their HUSBAND makes, I cringe so hard inside. I'm so embarrassed for them.

RNBrie · 04/10/2022 12:44

I do a weekly online shop and for a month I did a complete order on Ocado and then replicated it in the Sainsburys app. Sainsburys was at least 15-20% cheaper every time... so we've switched but I also miss Ocado. Sainsburys online experience is poor, vastly more subs which are mostly ridiculous (kippers instrad of cod?) and I never automatically get refunded for returns and have to chase every time.

But we are saving money 🙄

StaunchMomma · 04/10/2022 12:44

I wouldn't change from Ocado, although I have changed some items and now pick them up from eg Aldi when convenient. I also don't buy exclusively organic fruit & veg etc.

Their range is just so fab, though and continuously added to. We still miss things we bought weekly from the Waitrose range (although we do have a local store, they never seem to have the things we loved in!) so I can imagine how much you're missing it!

We spend 100-150 ish a week for a family of 3 on Ocado and but I do top ups at other stores throughout the week if necessary.

Have you considered changing your menu for cheaper options and allowing yourself eg £10 a week to spend on eg Natoora bits?

LovelifeHa · 04/10/2022 12:45

I used to love Ocado although I went off them when they teamed up with M&S rather than Waitrose. Switched to Sainsbury's to try and save a bit but I'm not that happy. Not always a great selection and as other posters have referenced, the substitutes are plentiful and often random!! Am very tempted to give Waitrose delivery a go and topup with basics from Sainsbury's/Aldi. I miss my Ocado when it partnered with Waitrose days... sigh

Whynobreadpudding · 04/10/2022 12:45

Stopped doing any regular big shops at supermarkets. Only buy what we need locally. Much cheaper.

procrastinatingtree · 04/10/2022 12:46

If you stop shopping there then occasionally they'll send an offer for free delivery and 25% off your shop! I just get an order when I get that offer

reigatecastle · 04/10/2022 12:46

I've got a horribly damaged back and I go to Asda and sainos myself because I don't trust them for subs and I have to yank the massive trolley with minimum of two kids with me too. It takes fucking hours

That's ridiculous, do the order online and say no subs. And then all you have to do is a short shop somewhere to get the things they didn't have.

StaunchMomma · 04/10/2022 12:47

I also think Ocado is unmatched by any other delivery service and the £10 monthly smartpass for deliveries is way cheaper than delivery from other stores.

Plus the early bird Xmas slots, which are free to older customers this year - they know they're not the cheapest option but they do know how to treat customers.

Aggypanthus · 04/10/2022 12:48

This thread is making me feel food snobbery is something people have to get over. It's food. You can buy it anywhere and you don't have to pay a premium because it has a fancy label on it.
