A penis straight before the Strictly late night rerun- AIBU?

So we watch strictly with our kids on a Sunday as the Saturday show goes on a bit late. We record the late night rerun with the sign language.
my daughter put the recording on this morning, there was a bit of the previous show on before it, and before I know it, there’s a bloke lying on a bed, naked from the waist down, with his penis attached to some kind of truss.
I ran for the remote, but my girls saw enough to be absolutely horrified. And I feel utterly terrible that they’ve been exposed to that sort of image.

MY AIBU is- should the BBC not be much more conscious of what they put on straight before a strictly rerun, because even though it’s on late, it’s a family show so could very conceivably be recorded by a family to be watched by children, especially as this is the sign language version, so some families would only watch this version.

Im so appalled and have made a complaint. Don’t know how I could predicted this but maybe I am BU and it’s my cock up (so to speak).

Agree title maybe misleading, and accept that the majority of people would not have assumed as I did, that the proceeding content would not be graphic.

Re BSL not being on main show. Strictly is broadcast live. Doing live BSL is incredibly hard work for an often unscripted show. As such they will record it after the show has been broadcast and then show it.

Shtfday · 03/10/2022 14:58

Rubbish. Interpreters interpret live content all the time. And that is not a reason why children cartoons arent interpreted. They could have these available with BSL at all times.

Same as subtitles at the cinema. So few subtitled showings that make it so hard for deaf people to attend as they clash with work commitments.

But they dont because deaf people are viewed as 2nd class citizens. Thats the root of the issue and it is still going on in the UK.

BSL should be taught in schools but no one actually wants inclision to benefit the pupils or society as a whole

It's very hard and I'm sure it would be very expensive but it would be a really powerful way to build on all of the progress made while Rose was a contestant last year. There were two live interpreters in the studio for every show last year to interpret the judges' comments and the conversations with Claudia for her but they were almost always off-camera.

Moonmelodies · 03/10/2022 15:12

Was there BSL on the foreskin show?

worriedniece · 03/10/2022 18:21

YABU for recording something in 2022!! Just watch the normal one in iplayer

Lincslady53 · 03/10/2022 19:06

We sat watching a documentary about Rolling Stone magazine on Sky Arts with my 99 year old mil. They were talking about music in the 60s, then switched to an article about grouples. A particular group of US hippies who made plaster casts of rock stars penises. No warning, no blurring or pixilation. It was quite amusing, but we changed channels and watched after she had gone to bed.

Do people under 60 really still record things?

Those ancient 60 year olds with their video recorders. 🙄

Surely it's easier to tell sky "record black list" and it picks up a series, avoids clashes and remembers where you are. Then you get alist of "your shows"

Rather than remembering to search for it each week and Remember new series.

Are people really not recording TV anymore? I record Strictly for my DC so they can watch it the next day on the TV. If they watched it on iplayer it would be on a tablet with a tiny screen.

Many many people will have one or more of a smart TV, or set-top box, or fire stick, or Chromecast, enabling them to use the iPlayer app on their TV.

SomeSquirrelsAreBlack · 03/10/2022 21:07

Was the previous program called "Strictly come bonking?"

SomeSquirrelsAreBlack · 03/10/2022 21:10

He was stretching his foreskin, "Strictly come Wanking"?

SomeSquirrelsAreBlack · 03/10/2022 21:12

or maybe Celebrity Masturbator?

Here’s me coming here cause I thought you were asking if it was ok to get the D before strictly. Disappointed 🤣

😂😂😂

@CheesesandWines
🤣🤣🤣🤣 oh imagine

dutyfirstselfsecond · 04/10/2022 20:32

what do you mean 'recorded'

Do people do that?

Yes.

I series record lots of things on my sky box.

Riv · 04/10/2022 21:30

I agree about it being post watershed so it’s our responsibility as parents, but I certainly can’t guarantee being able to watch it on catch-up. The internet here (super-fast fibre for which I pay a lot!) is so unreliable it can take ten minutes plus to load and will pixilate or cut out three or four times in an hour. (Cheaper internet won’t load at all).

HarryBlaster · 04/10/2022 22:42

Me too 😂 I’m disappointed to be honest.

Meant to quote this with my reply

MossGrowsFat · 03/10/2022 07:24

Your kids were created by a man being on his back with his dick in a truss?

I'd suggest Ops boundaries on child exposure to weird male behaviour is perfectly grown up

This. I’m 31 and would find watching a man stretching his foreskin revolting. Its not educational in the slightest so what this has to do with sex ed or body shaming is beyond me. Why any would actually want to see that, pre or post watershed, i don’t know.

Desperatetomotivate · 04/10/2022 23:29

Why are you recording the re run? If it’s because the other show goes too late but is the night before then just record it then?

CatsnCoffee · 05/10/2022 04:04

You can’t make your DDs un-see what they saw. No amount of worrying about it can change that fact, so put it down to experience and move on. Learn from the experience and decide to check recordings before DDs view them in future or use iPlayer.
Btw, as a mother of 5, I’ve had my fair share of awkward scenarios like this. You can’t plan for everything, but you can have an idea of how you’ll deal with these in future. Depending on their ages, you might decide that you
-won’t draw greater attention to it, but act calmly and move on.
-will make a joke of it along the lines of ‘well, I wasn’t expecting that! What a funny thing to do!’
-explain sensitively to your DDs that this was an adult show and intended to offer advice on a medical procedure or other.
If one of DDs mentions it again, don’t shut them down (however awkward you feel). Let them air their concerns/opinions etc and engage with them at their level. It’s important they know they can share with you.
