A penis straight before the Strictly late night rerun- AIBU?

So we watch strictly with our kids on a Sunday as the Saturday show goes on a bit late. We record the late night rerun with the sign language.
my daughter put the recording on this morning, there was a bit of the previous show on before it, and before I know it, there’s a bloke lying on a bed, naked from the waist down, with his penis attached to some kind of truss.
I ran for the remote, but my girls saw enough to be absolutely horrified. And I feel utterly terrible that they’ve been exposed to that sort of image.

MY AIBU is- should the BBC not be much more conscious of what they put on straight before a strictly rerun, because even though it’s on late, it’s a family show so could very conceivably be recorded by a family to be watched by children, especially as this is the sign language version, so some families would only watch this version.

Im so appalled and have made a complaint. Don’t know how I could predicted this but maybe I am BU and it’s my cock up (so to speak).

Is nobody else curious about what the show was? I'd like to watch it on iplayer so if anyone knows..

MargotChateau · 03/10/2022 06:06

Oh good grief you let your dc watch a recording from after the watershed and are upset they saw something that they shouldn’t. Only yourself to blame op, no point pearl clutching and complaining. 🙄
I’d rather watch that show than strictly anyway, it’s actually really good.

I think, that whilst it's late night, given that this is the accessible version of their flagship family show, it would behoove the BBC to have a little bit of common sense around what's on right before, given that it's always been the case that people recording tend to get a bit of the previous program.

This isn't a random repeat - it's a special version specifically for people who can't watch the standard version with full enjoyment otherwise - presumably especially children who might not even be able to read subtitles yet.

And because of that, I'm going to say YANBU.

Defo use the iplayer version rather than record it from now on though! (although, I'm pretty sure I've had it cut into the previous program on iplayer before too - maybe that doesn't happen any more though)

You still often get bits of other shows on iplayer.

Sux2buthen · 03/10/2022 06:24

@sashh iPlayer. There's options to watch the signed versions
Children aren't accommodated after the watershed, parents have to be responsible at some point

Curious was the stretching for health or some other reason? If for health then fair enough it's on tv it could help someone

Darbs76 · 03/10/2022 06:29

Sorry no, it’s after the watershed so you can’t complain. Fast forward until you’re at the start next week, lesson learned

sponsabillaries · 03/10/2022 06:37

Pixiedust1234 · 02/10/2022 23:46

Iplayer is crap. Recording is way better especially if you have to stop halfway through, or fastforward through the rubbish parts. It also doesn't buffer or freeze.

That’s not iPlayer being crap. That’s your internet speed.

I think there are variations on the UI but on both iPad and the iPlayer app on an LG TV you get a thumbnail of the screen above the progress bar when you fast-forward so you don’t have to guess as a pp said.

lickenchugget · 03/10/2022 06:48

Yabvu, the watershed is at 9pm, it doesn’t matter what wholesome programme is following it, tv after 9pm is well-known to be not suitable for children.

Thatboymum · 02/10/2022 23:09

Here’s me coming here cause I thought you were asking if it was ok to get the D before strictly. Disappointed 🤣

Yes I thought this thread was going to be quite different!

Overthebow · 03/10/2022 06:51

It’s after the watershed so it’s your responsibility to check. It’s completely on you that your kids saw that.

HandScreen · 03/10/2022 06:52

But it's just a penis - a body part - what's the issue?

BalloonSlayer · 03/10/2022 06:53

I honestly clicked on this thinking it was the new Strictly thread and the title was a joke about Matt Goss's trousers.

Namechangeforthis88 · 03/10/2022 06:55

Also prefer to record than stream, for ease of fast forwarding, and because streaming has a bigger carbon footprint.

sponsabillaries · 03/10/2022 06:58

What DVR do you have, OP? You can change the settings so it doesn’t record a buffer either side.

CuriousCatfish · 03/10/2022 06:59

7eleven · 03/10/2022 00:17

I thought this going to be a thread about Matt Goss’s ridiculously tight trousers!

Same. 😂

oakleaffy · 03/10/2022 07:04

Areyouactuallyserious · 03/10/2022 00:23

@oakleaffy I still don’t understand what was going on and I’m scared to Google and find out

I want to know the name of the programme!
😂
Was it medical? Or a kink.. Assuming medical as BBC not Channel 4.
I’m interested in the Truss part!
Once saw an Indian Fakir on a travel programme that picked up enormous weights with his John Thomas- That was apparently painless.

sponsabillaries · 03/10/2022 07:05

What time was it? I have gone through the schedules and can’t find the timing.

MossGrowsFat · 03/10/2022 07:24

KJPrice · 03/10/2022 03:00

Heaven forbid your children ever find out how they were created……. 🙄🙄🙄🙄 grow up

Your kids were created by a man being on his back with his dick in a truss?

I'd suggest Ops boundaries on child exposure to weird male behaviour is perfectly grown up

BodGaoithe · 03/10/2022 07:27

The programme is called “How to with John Wilson.” It’s actually a very sweet and funny programme and you should all give it a watch.
He’s known for making lots of random videos around New York; he edits them together and did very well on YouTube. HBO and BBC commissioned 2 series from him (and I’ve just binge watched them all!)

Sometimes he ends up chatting to strange people on the street or at conferences; the penis guy was someone campaigning against circumcision (for no medical reason) and was trying to invent a device that would help him grow his back. Obviously you saw the contraption on his willy but in the context of the programme it wasn’t that weird.

If you’re recording late night TV it’s your responsibility to check the recording.

Underanothersky · 03/10/2022 00:14

People still record things?

😀That was my take from this too.

bigbeautifulmonster · 03/10/2022 07:30

I would of day YANBU.

Circumcision seems to be almost routine in the US or at least much more common than it is in the UK. I can certainly see why someone would be campaigning against it.

Me too 😂

Shtfday · 03/10/2022 07:33

@Areyouactuallyserious
I get where you are coming from. But its part of a bigger issue with BSL versions of shows just not having the access they need.
Its the same with childrens shows, very few are signed and the versions that are signed are generally at obscure times.

I didnt realise that strictly had a signed option so will record myself. As this is great.

All shows should have an option for BSL in the same way we can click on subtitles. There is still a long way to go for equality but this is a start.....

I don't even understand why something like that needs to be on TV anyway. Ditto Weird/Embarrassing Bodies, Pimple Popper, Bad Skin Clinic, etc etc ETC

I take it 'etc etc' includes Strictly.

TheHoover · 03/10/2022 07:37
