AIBU?

A penis straight before the Strictly late night rerun- AIBU?

So we watch strictly with our kids on a Sunday as the Saturday show goes on a bit late. We record the late night rerun with the sign language.
my daughter put the recording on this morning, there was a bit of the previous show on before it, and before I know it, there’s a bloke lying on a bed, naked from the waist down, with his penis attached to some kind of truss.
I ran for the remote, but my girls saw enough to be absolutely horrified. And I feel utterly terrible that they’ve been exposed to that sort of image.

MY AIBU is- should the BBC not be much more conscious of what they put on straight before a strictly rerun, because even though it’s on late, it’s a family show so could very conceivably be recorded by a family to be watched by children, especially as this is the sign language version, so some families would only watch this version.

Im so appalled and have made a complaint. Don’t know how I could predicted this but maybe I am BU and it’s my cock up (so to speak).

It's the parent's responsibility to check a recording made at 1.10 am. You can adjust the settings on your DVR to avoid the programme before if you wish. If you're using Sky you can just download the signed programme as an individual file.

If you wanted to complain to the BBC about something I'd ask why, despite talking such a good game last year and seemingly making so much progress when Rose Ayling-Ellis was a contestant last year, there is no live BSL interpretation on the red button for the Saturday night broadcast. Then OP could record this and watch it with her children at her leisure.

Stretching his foreskin using some kind of truss? Is this a thing??
Apparently before Strictly, who knew.

On a serious note OP it’s on you, it’s after the watershed. You didn’t answer how old is your children but I think you made it worse by your reaction, it’s just a body part, you could tell them that it’s something medical and moved them on Strictly.

And I also came to this thread pretty sure that it’s about Matt Goss. Poor Matt…

Sorry- My children are all under 10, and the footage was a man with his penis in a truss trying to stretch his foreskin, I don’t think it’s especially prudish for anyone to find that freaky.
But saying it out loud I have only just got the Lizz Truss jokes from upthread… what is wrong with me Haha.

my Box automatically records the last few minutes, I didn’t think I needed to check as even though it’s on late night it’s the sign language version of a family show, so I was wondering if I was BU in thinking that. apparently yes

I do accept and have already up thread, that I need to check for errant foreskin stretching when recording any kind of late night show in future.

It's a show about trying to reverse genital mutilation right?

OK, you don't need to record at all.

Go to 'catch up - BBC' and navigate to last Friday. Scroll through until you find the Friday tx and you should be able to download the individual episode with nothing either side.

Just tested and it definitely works. You need to look at the BBC 2 catch up for Friday and it’s right at the bottom.

It will behave like a normal recording in terms of fast forward etc. You just need to give it a few minutes to download the whole file but you can start watching almost straight away while it downloads. You can use this for pretty much any iPlayer content if you don’t like the iPlayer UI. Just remember to delete the files when you have finished if space on the box is at a premium Smile

Your house, your tv, your kids, your decision to tape, your decision not to check what had been recorded. But its somebody else's responsibility?

Your children were HORRIFIED??? Mine would have found it hilarious once they understood genitals. How old are they?

Your kids were created by a man being on his back with his dick in a truss?

I'd suggest Ops boundaries on child exposure to weird male behaviour is perfectly grown up

Finally a reasonable human being. I don't understand these commenters. Also I don't know the ages of the children but they definitely sound like they are under the age of ten. It doesn't sound like OP is necessarily against them seeing a penis so much as she not ready for them to be exposed to hardcore porn! Also Why is their method of teaching children about sex through TV? 70% of the time that isn't even how folks have sex and gives them weird or unhealthy ideas about relationships and sex.

By that logic OP should just throw on 50 shades of grey and walk out of the room. 😂

they are under 10, I am not asking about whether it was unreasonable for them to be freaked out by the sight of a man lying with his penis in a truss and his foreskin stretched it, everyone’s got their own boundaries, just whether that should’ve been on straight before the sign language showing of a family show.

consensus is that I’m BU which is fine, and I will use another way to access that showing in future!

Don't worry OP you are right to be uncomfortable with them seeing that. Some of these people either didn't read the full post or they don't have healthy boundaries around young children and sex. Apparently letting children under 10 watch c*ck torture is totally healthy and normal to them!

put a parental pin on the tv, ours asks us for the pin for anything recorded after the water shed. It’ll remind you that after 9pm there may be programmes on that have nudity, violence and swearing in them.

I agree. I'm talking about the comments that come later that are mocking OP for being bothered by what they saw not because of the clip getting caught at the end.

We have the parental pin on, and I checked after why that wouldn’t have come up but apparently it’s only for age-rated content, which strictly isn’t.

Just to be clear the programme before was NOT hardcore porn or cock torture. It was about the very controversial topic of routine male circumcision and specifically about the measures some men take to try and reverse the procedure, including foreskin stretching. It is pretty horrifying to see but then so is the routine mutilation of baby boys being completely normalised in the USA.

Okay but that isn't the point. And do kids under 10 need to watch medical circumcision to learn that it is wrong to do that to baby boys? Why is that even relevant? 😂

The programme was broadcast at 1.10am!! No kids under 10 should be watching and their parents need to check any recordings made at this time. I've given OP a work-around now anyway so she won't need to record the programme in the future.

If you go back to my previous comments you will see that I have agreed with you on that note that it was ridiculous that OP was blanking BBC for them being expressed to it. I am criticizing the comments accusing OP of being a prude because her children saw a penis in a violent contraption with zero context or what was happening and suggesting that this was a great way for them to learn about penises and sex! Probably because they only read the title and just jumped into the comments section without reading everything.
