A penis straight before the Strictly late night rerun- AIBU?

So we watch strictly with our kids on a Sunday as the Saturday show goes on a bit late. We record the late night rerun with the sign language.
my daughter put the recording on this morning, there was a bit of the previous show on before it, and before I know it, there’s a bloke lying on a bed, naked from the waist down, with his penis attached to some kind of truss.
I ran for the remote, but my girls saw enough to be absolutely horrified. And I feel utterly terrible that they’ve been exposed to that sort of image.

MY AIBU is- should the BBC not be much more conscious of what they put on straight before a strictly rerun, because even though it’s on late, it’s a family show so could very conceivably be recorded by a family to be watched by children, especially as this is the sign language version, so some families would only watch this version.

Im so appalled and have made a complaint. Don’t know how I could predicted this but maybe I am BU and it’s my cock up (so to speak).

I think YANBU to be upset by this. So parents of children with a disability have to vet recordings of shows with sign language because they're only shown after the watershed and therefore there might be a penis on beforehand?!

Everyone saying 'use iPlayer' - genuine question, but where are the signed programmes? I can't find them. Maybe I'm using the wrong search terms but they're not easy to locate if there are there at all.

Hugasauras · 02/10/2022 23:36

I think I'd rather see someone's foreskin being stretched than watch Strictly anyway Grin

But yes, iPlayer next time perhaps!

Ha! Yup!

Areyouactuallyserious · 02/10/2022 23:42

I get what many are saying that as it’s late night programming anything goes, that’s fair.

But also not everyone uses iplayer and so realistically the late rerun will be recorded by some families, and it just didn’t seem responsible to me.

despite me not being Liz Truss

Gonna need to start recording Strictly in future .......Grin

Liz Truss ?

you are being ridiculous op

I can’t say anything but YABU because it’s 2022 and you don’t need to record anything…

This.

Iplayer avoids you recording the wrong post watershed mistake.

Clymene · 02/10/2022 23:45

Well if you're recording a programme that's after the watershed you need to be in control. The only person at fault is you.

Take the batteries out of the remote if your kids are going to dash in first.

You can search by signed

Here’s me coming here cause I thought you were asking if it was ok to get the D before strictly. Disappointed 🤣

Same same! 😂

Hugasauras · 02/10/2022 23:46

There's a Signed category on iPlayer and individual shows have the option too:
www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/help/questions/accessibility/sign-language#:~:text=Signed%20programmes%20are%20available.,of%20the%20programme%2C%20if%20available.

Pixiedust1234 · 02/10/2022 23:46

Iplayer is crap. Recording is way better especially if you have to stop halfway through, or fastforward through the rubbish parts. It also doesn't buffer or freeze.

dontputitthere · 02/10/2022 23:49

This is one of the things I miss about working at the bbc. Reading the overnight logs from the complaints department. 90% bonkers

It's post watershed. It would have had a warning. In the day and age of on demand tv you could pick it up on iplayer.

I'm not sure what resolution you're hoping for.

Gunner1510 · 02/10/2022 23:50

I really never considered the risk of seeing a man trying to stretch his foreskin before a strictly rerun, but seems like that was me being naive.

😂sorry but I nearly wet myself reading that!! 😂

Also disappointed you weren’t asking if it was ok to have a dick before strictly!!

LoveMyPiano · 02/10/2022 23:52

I don't even understand why something like that needs to be on TV anyway. Ditto Weird/Embarrassing Bodies, Pimple Popper, Bad Skin Clinic, etc etc ETC

I player is fine. I use it 100% of the time because I don’t have freeview or anything like that, everything I watch is streamed via a stick

OP you are unreasonable to think that there was not a risk that adult tv may be on late at night. I doubt any notice will be taken of your complaint, except maybe some eye rolling by the complaint staff

When should adult programming be on then?

QS90 · 03/10/2022 00:03

I haven't watched "regular" TV for years as we just have Netflix and Disney. I'm surprised (probably also naively!) that there are men stretching their forskins out at all on the BBC!! To what end?? Was it porn?

Yes OP iswym, I'd be miffed about this too if it were me. It's another thing to have to double check all the time, and I can understand you not wanting your children to see that image. I can see how the mix up happened though of course, with it being over the watershed. Maybe they could sandwich all of the more erotic (?) adverts either right in the middle of the advert slot, or in the breaks of true crime series or similar, where the program content is also adult.

It’s 2022. Most people who want to catch up will be doing so on iPlayer. If you chose to post watershed telly instead, that’s on you. The world is not calibrated around your convenience; expecting it to be doesn’t seem very responsible to me.

CheesesandWines · 02/10/2022 23:04

Liz Truss ?

That was my first thought too!
You beat me to it!

Underanothersky · 03/10/2022 00:14

People still record things?

Do men stretch their foreskins? With Truss?
I'm imagining things.. like this.

SiobhanSharpe · 03/10/2022 00:16

I briefly (and mistakenly) caught a bit of the actual programme.
it wasn't exactly comfortable viewing. Men are wierd.

SiobhanSharpe · 03/10/2022 00:16

And weird too.

7eleven · 03/10/2022 00:17

I thought this going to be a thread about Matt Goss’s ridiculously tight trousers!

Trees6 · 03/10/2022 00:19

I’d say YABU …..although I liked your pun in the OP and your funny comment in your next post. So, I’m sure you styled it out with your kids😆

Areyouactuallyserious · 03/10/2022 00:20

@Tsort I just had a look to see if I was in a tiny minority without realising, by not using iplayer instead.

“The BBC iPlayer now accounts for 12% of BBC television viewing, or 53 minutes per week” July 2021. The BBC iPlayer now accounts for 12% of BBC television viewing (BBC Annual Report and Accounts for 2020-2021)

so whilst I accept everyone’s point about not assuming bbc will not put a foreskin before the sign language strictly rerun, seems like most people are still just watching regular tv, so maybe they could think about checking.
