The latest in the ongoing saga is that JM has left Twitter after being 'hounded off'. The incident that seemed to provoke this...someone critiquing a photo of her mums roast potatoes. It just gets more and more bizarre.

To be clear, I don't like to see public pile ons and some of the abuse directed at Jack has been unpleasant. But a lot has also been reasonable, polite requests for information regarding her patreon which have largely been totally ignored. And her supporters have to be some of the most cruel people on Twitter. It seems like it's fine for JM to voice her opinion but as soon as others do the same they are called out for bullying. And ironically subjected to vile comments from her followers. Go figure.

Am I the only one who thinks she's probably best having a little Twitter break? But eventually if she's ever to redeem her reputation she needs to show some transparency regarding public donations.

Don't have prunes? Swap them for sultanas.... :/

Yep = according to Jack, all fruits are interchangeable . . . all herbs are interchangeable . . . all veg is interchangeable . . . all spices etc etc etc//

I don't think any of her recipes is ever tested - ingredients or method.

It's like she had duck and plum sauce at the Chinese and thought " I can make this" ...right...well I haven't got duck so I'll swap it for pork...right plum sauce.... Well prunes are dried plums, those will do.

Oh umm well I don't know how they make plum sauce. I'll just mash it all together and call it a meatball. Oooh nutmeg, that's like pepper.... let's bung it in.

00100001 · 25/11/2022 21:47

Maybe pork, prime and nutmeg go really nicely together.... I'm not prepared to chance my meat rations on it though!

00100001 · 25/11/2022 21:48

Pork, prune and nutmeg*

And god knows why she's boiling and then simmering the baked beans for 20 minutes... Until they're "soft" how much softer can a baked bean get?

The beans would be 180cal, but we can be generous and say they absorbed some sugar or smth. So 200

And sardines (tinned, in sauce) is the ubiquitous ingredient . . . 😬

For crying out loud - just bung them on a slice of toast like normal people do.

So many ingredients randomly shoved together without a thought - it's shameful, really. She overcomplicates simple foodstuffs, destroys a lot of texture by overcooking (ir undercooking, to try to make a time constraint). So much waste.

The entire tin of 400g baked beans is 364cals.

Here's a lovely recipe where she puts raw chopped onions in a pan with rice and cooks it like a risotto... Then adds a tin of tomatoes, tops it with courgette and brie...and then bakes it for 15 minutes.

WHY RAW ONIONS WITH RICE?

00100001 · 25/11/2022 22:16

True.

I'm absolutely stuffed from my portion of stew, it was an entire 250-300 calories and I was hungry, so my brain fog is real.

Now I'm just going to lie down and undo my trousers, I'm so bloated from my portion.

curledupwiththecat · 25/11/2022 22:26

Name changed for this because this isn't the first time I have posted these photos.
This was my attempt at JM's red lentil and mandarin curry. I followed the recipe exactly as it was online.
Without exception, it is the most disgusting thing I have ever eaten. I like, cook and readily eat lentils by the way, just not like this. It also cost significantly more than the advertised 22p a portion and for a supposedly filling recipe was around 250 calories.

Photo 2. What I ended up with.

Her recipes just don't work, have odd combinations of ingredients and are badly underseasoned. At best they're passable, at worst completely inedible.

cookingonabootstrap.com/2018/02/13/bread-bean-fennel-stew-17p/

1 X tin tomatoes 100cal
1 X tin baked Beans 360cals (but actually less, as they get rinsed of the sauce...)
2 X slices of bread 200cals
And herbs etc which don't provide calories worth adding in.*

On this surely it would easier and more cost effective to make beans on toast.

Why would you rinse of the TOMATO sauce & then add TOMATOES???

It's a bit of a con to call it bread, bean and fennel stew. When it involves ½tsp of fennel (or any mixed dried herbs...)

AnonWeeMouse · 25/11/2022 22:38

I don't think her recipes are designed for people that know how to cook... Or have taste buds.. or have any common sense..
They certainly aren't for hungry people either.

Whomever named them 'Slop' is absolutely correct.

This happens a lot with Jack's herbs and spices - you are expected to just wave the tightly closed jar vaguely in the general direction of the pan.

I recall a recipe for chill which I swear to God contained a pinch of chilli powder.

Just had a quick look - she's effectively doing Marie Kondo, but claiming the ethos as her own. I wonder if she'll get called out on it?

Emotionalsupportviper · 25/11/2022 22:49

Writes her name on her own notebooks in her own home . . . r-i-i-i-i-i-ght 🤔

That bean and fennel thing is laughable. Omg I had no idea it was THIS BAD

Absolutely. If you are looking to uplift budget rood you don't do this.
What you do is to add to the beans and toast, not atke away and replace.
Spice the beans up with some home basics.
Add tomato puree and italian type herbs, or bbq sauce and maybe some chili, squeeze (or drops from bottle) of lemon? Or just herbs! Garlic. Hmmm.
Fry onion and garlic, add the beans and sauce bit of Worcestershire?
I am proper freestyling here so sorry if I am being bit JM with weird combos.
Also bbq baked beans are freaking delicious.

Emotionalsupportviper · 25/11/2022 22:53

*Dear me, not der

Also need a (?) at the end of the sentence.
