Jack Monroe off Twitter

The latest in the ongoing saga is that JM has left Twitter after being 'hounded off'. The incident that seemed to provoke this...someone critiquing a photo of her mums roast potatoes. It just gets more and more bizarre.

To be clear, I don't like to see public pile ons and some of the abuse directed at Jack has been unpleasant. But a lot has also been reasonable, polite requests for information regarding her patreon which have largely been totally ignored. And her supporters have to be some of the most cruel people on Twitter. It seems like it's fine for JM to voice her opinion but as soon as others do the same they are called out for bullying. And ironically subjected to vile comments from her followers. Go figure.

Am I the only one who thinks she's probably best having a little Twitter break? But eventually if she's ever to redeem her reputation she needs to show some transparency regarding public donations.

By her own words, available to all to read, she is a pathological liar. By her own words, she's unlucky enough to suffer with arthritis, 'being crippled' (her words), Raynaud's disease, she has autism, ADHD, a bone problem, alcoholism, depression, gender identify issues, fibromyalgia.. the list goes on and on and that's just off the top of my head

So the devil is probably somewhere in the detail. She's got the sides of some sort but what they are is anyones guess

Mentally ill? Or a Walter Mitty type character? It's hard to say.

I follow Awfully Molly on Twitter and this has opened my eyes to many inconsistencies about JM, all in her own words.

It’s a shame as I did like JM, thought she was an interesting character, wanting to help people.! Felt sorry for her too. Remember her on a This Morning live, where she was cooking from her home and it was all going wrong.

I still follow her on Twitter but take everything she says with a pinch of salt. She doesn’t allow comments on her Tweets, but she continues to Tweet! I personally think she should come off social media and get help, she obviously needs it!

I’m exactly the same. I really wanted to like her. I wanted there to be a champion for the poor. Someone who really understood, who had lived it.

But the Awfully Molly piece just showed up the inconsistencies.

Suggest to her that she should get fresh milk from a polish goat from the north side of Mięguszowiecki Szczyt Wielki and you can pretty much guarantee that she s not only had that.milk but she's done the milking for thruppence an hour whilst selling her used candle wax to pay for half a crust of stale male loaf.

Apart from anything else, her blog post about Grendel that was linked to above is really badly written.

She has had a lot of traumatic experiences in her life. 2 instances of CSA by different perpetrators. Also domestic violence that was extremely severe. Also, she has been abudcted once, and stalked for a number of years (different perpetrators).

I believe it's sadly quite common for people who've had that amount of abuse, to have a difficult relationship with the truth.

However I do believe that Jack who is a bestselling author has responsibility for her own mental health and as she is clearly unstable she should be working mental health professionals and not constantly posting on twitter which I do not believe is good for her.

How does one even believe that though if she lies so much about everything else?

These things may have happened. ho knows.

She cries "Wolf" so often that I don't believe a word she says or writes any more.

I do think she has mental health problems - but I also think she is a totally narcissistic, entitled, self-centred, untruthful individual who is leeching off vulnerable people, knows what she is doing, and doesn't care a jot.

The person she claims went to prison for stalking her, in fact went to prison for stalking someone else.

I don't think that's right. The person who stalked her was her high school teacher. He also sexually abused her and then went on to stalk her into adulthood. She wrote a long thread about it in response to the Sarah Everard killing. He didn't go to prison for it at all, she said he was still in the community.

I think it's pretty dreadful to dismiss her experience as made up. In fact the mental health and alcoholism issues she talks about are issues that women who've been abused often do suffer.

I don't think her food is very good, and her Patreon thing is dreadful if true. But I draw the line at disbelieving her experiences with abuse because that feels to me like "Victim was wearing a mini skirt your honour" or "Well it's just your word against his"

I'm afraid if you've got a track record as being somewhat creative with the truth, it's not disrespectful for people not to automatically believe further claims.

In the wake of the Sarah Everard killing, lots of women were recounting their own experiences of sexual abuse on Twitter. Caitlin Moran. Ash Sarkar. Loads of other women.

I understand why you might see that as renching the limelight away from Sarah and her family and I agree with you as it happens. But the other side of the coin is that it ewas important for women to talk about how widespread sexual predation is and I understand that too.

As I say, if she has been grifting, then that is bad and she should refund the money. But that's completely separate, for me, to saying that she lied about being abused.

And you don't think that he would be in prison if that were true @potniatheron? I mean she's written about it extensively but has she ever been to the police?

It's also bizarre behaviour for someone who has been stalked not once but twice to post endless selfies in identifiable locations.

I believe the judge in the Hopkins trial was very scathing about the lack of evidence Monroe was able to produce of her alleged litany of abusive messages.

Yes that's her general tone, regardless of the actual facts.
We'll need to agree to disagree re the veracity of those claims, I think.

If she didn't live her life pretty continued bullshit and lies then people might believe you.
