Jack Monroe off Twitter

The latest in the ongoing saga is that JM has left Twitter after being 'hounded off'. The incident that seemed to provoke this...someone critiquing a photo of her mums roast potatoes. It just gets more and more bizarre.

To be clear, I don't like to see public pile ons and some of the abuse directed at Jack has been unpleasant. But a lot has also been reasonable, polite requests for information regarding her patreon which have largely been totally ignored. And her supporters have to be some of the most cruel people on Twitter. It seems like it's fine for JM to voice her opinion but as soon as others do the same they are called out for bullying. And ironically subjected to vile comments from her followers. Go figure.

Am I the only one who thinks she's probably best having a little Twitter break? But eventually if she's ever to redeem her reputation she needs to show some transparency regarding public donations.

To be fair, that isn't impossible for troubled bright kids.

Not saying she's a genius or prodigy or what
But it's not beyond the realms of believability.

She certainly seems to think she is brighter than most people, but she comes out with the most extraordinary rubbish - like the workings out of running costs for electrical appliances that were way off, something like £50 a week for running a fridge 🙄, like talking about whether she could move a gas oven where a radiator was on the same pipework, like claiming she can sue people for libel when they ask questions, and like telling someone using a Burnside photo on Twitter that they were impersonating an officer and that was a crime.

I think maybe at primary school she was best in class, but then at secondary grammar she was just ordinary.

I think she was below ordinary and the lies and the nonsense came about to boost herself up due to insecurities and anxieties etc.

She's a Billy Bullshitter.
Suggest to her that she should get fresh milk from a polish goat from the north side of Mięguszowiecki Szczyt Wielki and you can pretty much guarantee that she s not only had that.milk but she's done the milking for thruppence an hour whilst selling her used candle wax to pay for half a crust of stale male loaf.

Reading the Awful Molly blog there is very interesting. It’s so well done as it’s all Jack’s own words. Nothing that she hasn’t said herself. Some clear utter contradictions. Like leaving education at 16 but also having a degree.
I know how sometimes we can all reference something as having happened in one year but get confused and get the year wrong but she is clearly making stuff up.
The worst one is claiming after the Grenfell tower fire that she had been a firefighter. She was a fire service call handler.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens when her son is older. I wonder what he will have to say.

Re the Grenfell fire, do I recall her saying she was consulted or something about it? As if she were some kind of forensic fire expert? May have misremembered that though

This happened to me (Brag, brag) - I was one of the very brightest in my year at primary school, got into the grammar school and was distinctly average. University brutally ripped away any remaining pretension to genius . . . 😂

I'm sure that this will have already been covered, but I think Jack is unwell and has been for some time. She doesn't know how to handle fame, especially the inevitable negative side of it.

No I think she said that she gathered a group of ‘experts’ (including herself of course) to investigate the fire.

She tried to insert herself into the Jo Cox story we well. She’s a ghoul.

The problem is her Twitter is now just loyal followers who believe and lap up everything she says, no matter how ludicrous. She says she’s ‘campaigning’ etc. must be true, no need for proof.

Yes, she really overstated her role with the Grenfell thing in a really gross way.

I think she actually might have gone over to help out with sorting donations, which would have been worthwhile and laudable on its own, but she made out like she was there in an official firefighting capacity. The exaggeration and self-aggrandisement is sickening.

A lot of people made Grenfell about them. Jack was one of them. Doesn't excuse the lying or interfering. Doesn't make it less annoying that the people who were genuinely grieving had their stories overtaken by people like Jack DOING things. Just that she wasn't the only one doing that. I remember loads of celebrities doing crazy things like offering their spare rooms to families. Did they actually do that? Did they fuck.

She's a grief vampire, unfortunately. She's really done a number on herself over the years and yet I find that I do pity her. I hope she finds some kind of peace soon, possibly offline.

I'm not excusing, but I am trying to understand.

I very much doubt the crushing poverty she claims but at the same time I don't think she is swimming in money, writing doesn't pay as much as people always think.

She blogged about not using her madeup degree before that, it was in 2012, the honorary stuff was in 2015 and 18 8 think.

She spends all her money, hence she's "poor".

She's doing just fine,.don't feel bad for her.

She isn't in poverty, or relying on benefits and paying into an over priced electricity meter, wondering how she's going to afford to buy new shoes for kiddo when she only has £26.30 left, and still needs to buy the food for her family....

That isn’t her only income stream though. She takes in a minimum of £2000 per month (likely much much more) from her patreon account, for which she hasn’t provided any of the promised rewards for 2 years. So that’s money for doing absolutely nothing. She does lots of corporate speaking gigs. She rattles her tip jar on a regular basis.
She owns tens of thousands of pounds of designer clothes and handbags, her house is entirely furnished in high end stuff (she posts all this on Twitter and Instagram).

Well, no she won't be wealthy if she spend all her money.

But that isn't the same as her being poor, which she claims she is.
