I would like, if anyone has influence to tell right people, to hear a podcast discussion of Singapore vs. all UK. Rory Stewart & Alastair Campbell did about 5 minutes of this topic on their podcast this week, but they only scratched the surface.
If "Singapore on Thames" is where Truss/KK want us to go, explain how Singapore came to exist and what would be different in UK from today.
RS/AC talked about the army of poorly paid (pay rates by nationality!) immigrants that underpin Singapore economy. Singapore’s 1.42 million foreign workforce today makes up close to a quarter of the country’s population of 5.7 million people. Aside from the close to 400,000 foreign professionals holding either an Employment Pass or S-Pass, nearly all the rest are work permit holders in low-wage, low-skilled positions. Imagine if almost 1/2 of UK working age population was not citizens.
