Who is this Odey man?
Sounds a sleaze.

vera99 · 30/09/2022 17:33

Head of the Odey hedge fund that was tried and acquitted of rape but had to admit creeping on young female members of staff trying to turn them into mistresses. That much was admitted in court he is a fat sweaty 60 + ugly man who has made a fortune shorting the UK. Kk worked for him for a while.

the80sweregreat · 30/09/2022 17:36

Another sex pest then :(
I hate men sometimes:(

Sex pest Odey deserves to be doing time but instead he fills his boots with our cash. Time for a bit of class war.

I'm up for that

She wore a big fur hat and some nostalgic oldies thought she was the second Thatcher coming.

And they couldn't cope with being led by a man with brown skin.

Dave20 · 30/09/2022 19:34

Yea, I think that’s why Truss was elected by the party members. Thatcher was really loved by lots of people who are now over 70, in the south east of England. Even now I hear older generations talking about how much they admired her.

I guess it’s people like those over 70s, who are well off, living in the Home Counties, who voted Truss.

But Truss isn’t Thatcher. She’s neither particularly articulate or a strong leader. Thatcher was both, even though she was a marmite figure.

Thatcher? That paragon of society? She forced 10 people to die on hunger strike in Northern Ireland. There was no violence; just hunger strike. They died.

That Thatcher? Yes, Truss is exactly like her. Exactly like her.

There are two sides to every story. Yet British people seem to be entirely unaware of any side but their own. Questioning minds is not something that the British populace tends to produce.

Interesting statement ! so nobody in the UK should question the motives and competence of the Government because that means they are unaware of the other sides story and therefore do not possess questioning minds ?

runningpram · 30/09/2022 20:54

At least Thatcher was elected - Truss wasn't..

depends on which government they're questioning (usually not their own).

I haven't seen many threads questioning anyone elses Government ? maybe I missed them ? Our own Government is very much fair game, I imagine any normal person in any other country feels the same way and is able to express it freely on social media, with a few notable exceptions.

I think you've completely misunderstood that poster there.

@Whattaweapon have I got the wrong end of the stick ?

FridayTheThirteeth · 30/09/2022 21:36

She has a massive ego and zero competence. What on earth were the Tory faithful thinking about selecting her.

Agreed, it's Turkeys voting for Christmas etc....

A Red Wall Tory MP would likely be gone like a dot, unemployed PDQ if there's GE in the short term. They might want a new leader but they're certainly not going support a vote of no confidence in the Government.

New leader before Christmas. Giveaway budget. Election shortly after the Coronation. Probably June , anniversary of Elizabeth's Coronation.

Reelected with a small majority. Don't thank me Liz. £100k and we're golden.

#93 in the series "Things I never thought I would find myself saying": Although I thought that no-one would ever beat Johnson in the "Most incompetent PM of all time" stakes, at least when he fucked things up he occasionally had the sense to do a U-turn. Truss doesn't even have that teeny tiny saving grace.

LizzieW1969 · 30/09/2022 23:51

@Novum I suspect that’s once again because she’s trying to emulate Thatcher, who famously once said at a Tory party conference, ‘the lady’s not for turning.’

SilverGlitterBaubles · 01/10/2022 08:08

the80sweregreat · 30/09/2022 11:10

People don't care though
I see this everyday at work , my colleagues are either the ' I'm alright Jack ' types or just in it for themselves. They laugh at the young , they have the empathy of a ant and generally do not care
about anyone out of their bubble.
I include my own Dh in this , although he cares about family and has been a 'worked all my life ' type because he has. It doesn't mean you can't have any sympathy or empathy for other people who haven't had the advantages that he has had and we are not mega rich. He just was lucky to have a safe secure job and unions who fought for some decent wages etc and a decent education to carry out a good job. Not everyone has this and this is bring eroded for others
I find it soul destroying how self absorbed people are ( on the whole )
Or maybe I'm just surrounded by them!

I agree with this but also hope that some people will actually start to wake up now they are feeling the pinch. Even the 'I'm alright jacks' have seen their pension funds take a nosedive this week, anyone with any kind of investment is the same. My true blue Tory PIL are absolutely furious and they are saying they will never vote for them again.

It's so obvious, isn't it?

That and her "iron fist" quote.

borntobequiet · 01/10/2022 08:58

Both Johnson and Truss seem to see themselves as reincarnations of iconic “heroic” leaders.
Unfortunately neither have the intellectual abilities or positive personal traits of either. Churchill and Thatcher had their faults, some of them immense, but they were authentic personalities of towering status. Johnson and Truss are wholly -and partially self - manufactured and inauthentic imitations.

BirmaBrite · 01/10/2022 09:41

chaosmaker · 04/10/2022 23:23

Said that they listen to what people want and that's why they've reversed their cut to the top rate of tax. I'm now waiting for them to listen to the petition to call a GE immediately. Not that they will of course. Selective hearing and all that.

basilmint · 04/10/2022 23:49

Having listened to todays speech, I have come to the conclusion that the only thing worse than having Liz Truss as Prime Minister would be having Suella Braverman. Fortunately, from my point of view, they are both equally likely to lose the Conservative Party the next election.
