Well, I knew that already, but every day she shocks me with the heights her deluded self-confidence goes to

Will people regret Brexit once they realise it’s going to cost us lots of money ? Maybe ok for the non poor pensioners who live in paid off expensive houses and good work place pensions.
And if Brexit really is a disaster, I’m sure the likes of Nigel Farage will disappear and distance themselves form it.

Liz Truss talks about growth without addressing the elephant in the room which is that we left the single market, making it difficult and more expensive to trade with our nearest neighbours. Its self imposed sanctions. Until this is acknowledged - which will never happen - we will have a constant struggle to grow the economy and have to put up with their whacky economic experiments instead.

scaredoff · 29/09/2022 18:16

She also said on almost all interviews that "no one will pay more than £2500 a year for their energy" which is so infuriatingly misleading.

It's not misleading. It's a lie.

Croque · 29/09/2022 18:20

Is this early evidence of a PR invention called Dizzy Lizzie - spreads damaging lies again and again, is pardoned on the grounds of ignorance/newness/cluelessness. It needs to be nipped in the bud.

If she didn't know it was a lie she is much much more stupid than we thought and to have done it multiple times without any advisor correcting herself?

Why didn't the radio presenters challenge her? Or did they?

Heswipedright · 29/09/2022 18:26

She's embarrassing.

theworldhas · 29/09/2022 18:30

Trouble is when this bunch of imbeciles are kicked out in 6-18 months, the right wing press will give Starmer’s government about a 3 month grace period.
After which all the problems and decay caused by a decade of Tory austerity, bonkers budgets, Brexit, and trickle up economics etc will be blamed on Labour. And millions will believe it. And then the next Tory ”saviour” will be in again four years later. And so the cycle continues.

wonderstuff · 29/09/2022 18:30

The problem is there’s no obvious way to get rid of her, next GE is 2 years away.

Also how did she get into Oxford?

hugofrugo · 29/09/2022 18:34

For those asking how Truss was chosen ahead of Sunak - Go and google who the ERG are. These are the (very far-right) people that hold all the power within the Tory party.

One time Chair was Rees-Mogg, now the detestable Mark Francois. They pressured Cameron to allow the referendum and wanted Brexit, they ousted May, backed Boris until they realised he was a liability and then backed Truss. There was no way they were going to allow Sunak to become leader.

The whole party has driven the country off the edge of the cliff and yet still no one talks about the biggest elephant in the room. Brexit has wrecked us, the pandemic and Putin made it all a lot more difficult to get through. Worrying times.

theworldhas · 29/09/2022 18:35

Unless and until Britain gets PR to stop these Tory wreckers from ever destroying the country again, the UK will be doomed to repeat a cycle of perpetual decline. An economy built on house prices and city investments that whose profits filtered out to foreign investors, offshore accounts and the pockets of the 0.1%. Money that average Joe Bloggs on 25k a year never sees a penny of. As was reported the other day - get ready to see average British living standards leapfrogged by Poland by 2030.

Pliudev · 29/09/2022 18:36

I'm afraid I disagree. Or, she may be an idiot but just behind her in the shadows are some powerful manipulators who know exactly what they are doing. I read an interesting article about what right wing Americans (and we know who they are) call 'starving the beast'. It means taking steps that bring an economy to the brink of disaster in order to convince voters that it's imperative to cut public services to the bone. I'm talking about measures that would make Cameron and Osborne's age of austerity look like playtime. What happens next is you will be paying upfront for a doctor's appointment (remember what Thatcher did to the dental service?), OAPs and the chronically sick will be paying for prescriptions and your children's school will be asking you to fund basic materials and contribute to the heating bill. This is just the tip of the iceberg. And don't forget that those shadowy individuals are making a fortune hedging against the pound on the markets. Truss is likely the sacrificial lamb. If it all goes pear shaped, as it surely will, nobody will miss her and her backers will be off spending their ill gotten gains in tax havens around the world.

theworldhas · 29/09/2022 18:41

It’s almost like the Tories are actively trying to lose the next election while bleeding the country dry, particularly the poorest while the richest are protected. Then when the lowest of the lowest ebb, absolute rock bottom comes along in a year or two - wahey look who’s in charge - Labour. It’s almost treasonous really.

Diamondsareforever123 · 29/09/2022 18:43

Nasty Tories just showing how truly vile they are! They would sooner see starving and destitute people to get their rich mates even richer. Anyone who voted the OP is being unreasonable must be millionaires!

paintitallover · 29/09/2022 18:44

I hate the way she's blaming everyone else. It's Putin, or the banks, or the IMF. Just fuck off with the shocking dishonesty. We see you.

chaosmaker · 29/09/2022 18:45

Our tax laws need ripping up and rewriting from scratch. They are ridiculous. At the moment the tory machine are out in force and backing her stupid plan. They have also started to talk about 'the last time labour were in government' and how they can't be trusted with the public purse.... with no sense of irony at all. @Pliudev that plan sounds about right. All the while hiding behind whatever novelty or tragedy they can use to mask what is actually going on. I got mocked on another thread for suggesting that there were still plans going ahead behind the funeral and all that convenience for the tory party. There is also redrawing of electoral boundaries that have been creeping in over the past few years that are weighted towards... you guessed it... the tory voters. Our form of democracy doesn't work for the majority or make sense when you count actual votes cast.

LoveComedy · 29/09/2022 18:52

That's rude.

Abhannmor · 29/09/2022 18:56

Yougov poll now has Labour 33 points ahead.

I doubt that can be sustained. Great to see though.

Croque · 29/09/2022 19:00

She is fixated upon the City Of London....wonder why ? 🤔 😅
It is going to ruffle a few feathers in those forgotten constituencies who were assured that their areas mattered too and thought she would help them because she also has a regional accent.

Evan456 · 29/09/2022 19:09

If they’d had an election, i
sure Boris would’ve stayed

Blueblell · 29/09/2022 19:10

They have created a housing crisis - they could not have made it worse even if they tried really hard.

chaosmaker · 29/09/2022 19:12

She also said that things could be worse, veiled threat?

Woody2021 · 29/09/2022 19:14

I had no time for Sunak but he said during the debates - no one says that giving tax breaks will help anyone and in fact cause a recession....it seems he was right.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 29/09/2022 19:14

Labour and their 33 point lead🎉🎊🥳🥳👏🏼👏🏼🎊

Biggest lead of any pollster or party since Blair’s landslide. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

fucketydoodah · 29/09/2022 19:15

Are you serious???!!!!!!

Whattaweapon · 29/09/2022 19:17

Incredible. Heard it mentioned on the news and thought someone made a mistake.

Two years is a long time to wait for an election though. The country desperately needs one now.

Blueblell · 29/09/2022 19:18

When landlords find their mortgage has gone up £900 - what is going to happen to tenants? Not to mention homeowners who cannot afford their own mortgage. It is going to be very serious
