Well, I knew that already, but every day she shocks me with the heights her deluded self-confidence goes to

Liz Truss had to be convinced to issue statement amid market turmoil after mini-budget

Labour and their 33 point lead🎉🎊🥳🥳👏🏼👏🏼🎊

Biggest lead of any pollster or party since Blair’s landslide. 🙏🙏🙏🙏

This is absolutely brilliant news!

LakieLady · 29/09/2022 19:24

Truss on Radio Lancs this morning re fracking: Graham Liver wiping the floor with her. When asked what 'local consent' for fracking means, lots of hesitation, unclear answers and when asked if she knows the areas where fracking is proposed (as in, knows the type of land that might qualify for fracking), she doesn't.

Well done for listening to all that!

She comes across as though her research consists entirely of learning a few bullet points. She doesn't seem to have a decent or deep understanding of anything, and that's why she struggles to answer anything other than the most superficial questions.

We are being governed by a dimwit. I've never been as concerned about the future of this country as I am now (and I'm 67, so that's a long time!).

But there isn’t an election for two more years.

katia2 · 29/09/2022 19:32

I wonder if she reads Mumsnet? I bet she did in the days before the referendum when she said she was backing Remain because she wanted her daughters to have free movement to live and work in Europe. If she was my mum, I'd be rather embarrassed by her.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 29/09/2022 19:36

They’re unlikely to lose the lead though. It may shrink but not disappear.

Heswipedright · 29/09/2022 15:23

God almighty. I've just read through that timeline @notimagain and Sunak was always the front runner with the MPs. Why the actual fuck did the membership not vote for him?

He was far and away the most competent from the start, and by the time it was down to the final 2, he should have been streets ahead of Truss.

It makes me wonder if there's a significant racist element among the grassroots members, either racist themselves or sort of one step removed racists who thought that a BAME leader might be unpopular with Tory voters to the point where he was unlikely to win.

That's the only plausible explanation I can come up with.

Croque · 29/09/2022 19:43

I am all for calling out legitimate cases of racism as is the case here (unlike on certain other threads). However, they are the "nasty party" so it is hardly surprising. The DM reading members openly wrote him off before he had even resigned. The scandals involving the covid fine and his wife's tax affairs never helped but I think they would have been suspicious of him anyway. BAME candidates only seem to get a look in for the highest office during periods of sustained economic prosperity both sides of the Atlantic I would have thought.

Yes but two years is a long time to wait to vote this lot out. Look how much damage has been done in one week !

Diva66 · 29/09/2022 19:56

Yes we are still being governed by an idiot.

I did wonder if their “drastic spending cut” will be privatise the NHS.

It’s on a par with “bring back bankers bonuses” and “cut taxes for the rich” in terms of Tory wet dreams.

Wouldn’t put it past them.
Absolutely ruthless and uncaring about the millions of people who aren’t on £150k a year.

Pliudev · 29/09/2022 20:12

Croque: the160,000 Tory members who are mostly male, mostly white, mostly middle aged to elderly readers of the Mail and Express were never going to vote in a BAME prime minister but nobody seemed willing to say so. After this debacle they should never be given that responsibility again.

AnnieSnap · 29/09/2022 20:22

The only silver lining is that the politically naive will finally get to see this ERG controlled Tory Party for what it is!

TheJade · 29/09/2022 20:23

Trussia! I bloody love that! 🤣😂😂

not that it’s our reality but the name is spot on. She’s a complete melt on so many levels!

Dave20 · 29/09/2022 20:23

Most of the Tory party members are retired, white middle class people living in the home counties, with their paid off houses and nice work pensions.
Absolutely nothing has improved since 2010 has it? Please anyone tell me what has improved since the conservatives?
Why are working class people still considering voting for them?
Only when people are homeless, freezing and starving to death will the penny have dropped for them. When they realise the economy has been wrecked and they can’t afford to pay their bills will they see what’s happened..

AStar98 · 29/09/2022 20:27

Nope, the people who voted Tory in the last election are the idiots. She wouldn't be there now otherwise.

Dave20 · 29/09/2022 20:28

But the Tories haven’t had any success with the economy. Whatever ideology they have.
They imposed austerity from 2010.
Meaning public services were cut around 20%.

And now want to borrow huge amounts of money to fund their millionaire mates in the city, so poor Joe public on £24 k a year has to spend the next four decades paying it back.

If this was a business they were running they would be in jail!

No people voted in Boris Johnson to end the Brexit deadlock.

AStar98 · 29/09/2022 20:33

Did I say why they voted Tory? No.
Remind me, how's Brexit turned out?
Yup. DUMB!

BirmaBrite · 29/09/2022 20:37

No people voted in Boris Johnson to end the Brexit deadlock

Which he sort of, almost, possibly did, if you ignore the issues with the NI protocol.

And this is the problem with voting over one single issue, because rarely is one single issue the only thing that is going to effect your day to day life.

But hey ho , got Brexit done and all that !

Dave20 · 29/09/2022 20:44

AStar98 · 29/09/2022 20:33

Yup. DUMB!

I simply said they voted the Tories in 2019 to get Brexit done. Not that they were right. You said the people that voted the Tories in are idiots.
No one knew that Truss would end up being our PM

tabby007 · 29/09/2022 20:49

This is why this country is in such a mess, because of deluded voters like yourself

GottaGetOutofDairy · 29/09/2022 20:52

Explaintome · 29/09/2022 18:24

If she didn't know it was a lie she is much much more stupid than we thought and to have done it multiple times without any advisor correcting herself?

Why didn't the radio presenters challenge her? Or did they?

To be fair to the presenters, she was leaving so much for them to push her on, that they couldn't go after all the gaps.

Local radio did a bloody sterling job this morning, many presenters showing more journalistic intent than I've seen in a while.

WTAFhappened123 · 29/09/2022 20:52

The incredibly frustrating thing in this whole shit show is there is no political party that are any better!! I’ve been politically homeless for years now 😞

I think that is unfair and incorrect.

IMO the reason the Conservative Party members voted for Truss was that she promised both tax cuts and increased spending on universal subsidies for energy costs.

Whereas Sunak was not willing to offer tax cuts and only increased spending on targeted support for energy costs. He argued that a sharp rise in Government debt would be a disaster and has since been proved right.

The Conservative party members like most of the electorate are pretty dumb wanting simple pain free solutions with all upside but no downside. That's not how the real world works.

Seriously? You see this shitshow going on for another two years? Truss will be lucky to make it to Christmas.
