Years of owning a smartphone, years of using my clock app for timers, alarms etc and YESTERDAY I realised that the app button on my homescreen shows the actualy time and not just a stylised picture of a clock!

I noticed it and thought "Oh its 4pm and its on 4pm...what a coincidence" in that way you do when the time is 12:34 or 12:21 or whatever. Nothing particularly interesting, you just notice it.

Then a couple of hours later it was showing ten past six....blew my mind!

Need to try mine!

How can you not have realized this before?! If you have an iPhone by default the clock app is at the top of the first page and you see it every time you look at the home screen.

Maybe I'm just an optimist but I always assume (unless for sale, clearly broken etc) that clocks show the correct local time, real or digital.

Yes 🤣🙈 I thought the same as the op , that it was just a picture of a clock same as other widgets on Home Screen …

It did take me about a year to realise, but it erm, wasn't mind-blowing.

Dear me yes! Never noticed before so I'm pleased I'm not alone. A long press on it brings up a shortcut menu too!

The emoji for ‘date’ also shows my birthday. Was amazed. Does that change for everyone ? 📆

Well yes, because it's 'just' the way I access my alarm clock/timer/stopwatch app. The same way many apps are just a static picture. I use the time at the top of my screen.

Oh my gosh, I did not know this and I'm firmly in the mind blown camp. This is living in the future (shame about all the other crap really).

Why 'if course'? It's just the app icon. I use it like any other app, tap to get what I want (alarm/timer). My banking app doesn't show my balance on my phones phone screen - it has the bank logo. Tesco app doesn't show what's in my trolly, just their logo.
