To think alot of you are weird

Clickbait title I know, but on the back of another active thread I'm genuinely curious about this.

I honestly think anyone that doesn't instantly change into comfy clothes (pj's or lounge wear etc.) As soon as they come home are seriously weird. How can you get comfy on the couch in fecking jeans 🙈 I also can't do chores in normal clothes, has to be old pj's.
If I'm not going anywhere for the day then I just shower and get into a different pj set. I can't stand wearing shoes indoors either, so slippers are lined up on the shoe stand near front door.
My kids don't even need to be asked, once they come home from anywhere (shool, shopping etc.) They take off shoes and go change into comfy clothes. I'm in no way a germaphobe, it's not related in any way to cleanliness, its just comfort.

This was not my upbringing, my dad ran his business from our home so there was always alot of traffic at our home, people coming & going. So we always had to be fully dressed, hair neat with shoes on from early morning till evening. He thought, and still thinks, wearing pj's during the day looks dirty or lazy.

So anyway:

YABU - I don't change as soon as I get home, you are the weirdo.
YANBU - yep, always instantly into fluffy socks and stretchy bottoms.

I can't wear PJs if I'm up and about at home - it makes me feel tired and scruffy and also a bit "stuck at home". I like to feel put-together and ready to head out again if I need to. I'm a bit old fashioned like that - I don't like to feel or look scruffy. My family are the exact opposite, always waddling around half dressed in the daytime, so no idea where I get it from.

Then again I never wear jeans because I find them uncomfortable at any time of day!

I think people can do different things without insisting others are 'weird'

I was just being a bit tongue in cheek, and I know loads of people disagree with me, it's just meant as a fun post, a little poll about something I'd imagine we'd all agree is relatively insignificant. Like asking if the loo roll goes over or under 😅

Yanbu. Jeans aren't warm or stretchy. They're fine for dashing about outside but not for pottering about in.

DutchessOfMuck · 23/09/2022 14:43

I am the same as you op. Can't clean in clothes it's got to be old Pjs. The minute I get home I change into Pjs.

I don't allow shoes to be worn in the house.

Dh wares clothes and Jean's all the time. I don't understand how he can do that 🤷‍♀️

viques · 23/09/2022 14:44

I think the pj wearers will be copying the rest of us and layering up when the cold weather/ increased energy costs hit home. Let’s see whose feeling smug and unweird then shall we?

blockpavingismynightmare · 23/09/2022 14:45

I think a lot of people don't realise that 'alot' isn't a word

Agree.

SpaceJamtart · 23/09/2022 14:45

Yabu I find jeans comfy- will reguarly wear my jeans until Its time for bed.
I will clean the house in my normal clothes.
I only wear pyjamas if I am ill- clothes are for daytime- I will happily wear outside clothes or even my work clothes until I change to go to bed. I have occasionaly forgotten to take my lanyard off until halfway through the evening.

I dont think the pyjamas-as-clothes people are weird but thats just really not for me.

elkiedee · 23/09/2022 14:46

I'm not voting on this because I think it's very reasonable to change into comfy clothes and I hate wearing shoes inside, but I've only recently taken to wearing nighties as much as I now do. A lot of my clothes have fallen apart and I need to buy replacements but if I'm spending money (especially money that I don't really have) I'm scared of wasting it on something which doesn't fit/looks awful etc, so I have a good supply of plain black tshirts but only two skirts I can wear to leave the house in at the moment (and one of those really needs a blue top not black - I only have one that I can find!).

DS2 takes off his shoes and changes out of uniform as soon as he gets home, but DS1 goes all over the house in the same shoes he's had on all day. He's used to taking them off in the homes of most of our family as my dad's Chinese second wife had that rule, and his Somali childminders. It's so very normal in many family homes around the world and diaspora homes. And so did my mum and her very English third husband. I wanted to have that rule in my house but couldn't persuade dp to take any notice. Grrrrr. (I'm English of English/Irish ancestry but I believe in taking up good ideas). It's also quite common in many countries to change out of "Western" business dress into clothes that suit the local climate, eg very hot weather.

However, I don't think it's weird not to do it, it's very much a what you're used to and why you might not do it (if that's the case).

LimpBiskit · 23/09/2022 14:47

I have something on most evenings so I come in, eat and then go out again. I tend to go straight to bed when I come in after that so not much lounging around the house anyway.

Cigarettesaftersex1 · 23/09/2022 14:47

I've got skinny jeans and a t shirt on for work today but when I get home I'll change into looser trousers, not PJs as I don't own any, but I can't lounge in my skinny jeans, they just feel constricting around my knees and calves

Shodan · 23/09/2022 14:47

Honestly? I find it weird that any woman is comfy wearing pjs in bed 😂On the few occasions I've tried, I find the bottoms get twisted around, cutting into my nether regions, and they make me too hot too. Nighties (the stretchy mid thigh t shirt kind) all the way for me.

But I wear 'yoga pants' at home during the day (not that I've ever done yoga). They're smart enough to nip to the supermarket if I need to though.

'Outside' clothes (jeans, skirts, dresses etc) get whipped off when I get home and exchanged for the above. And I rarely wear underwired bras, just comfort ones, so they don't need changing.

gatehouseoffleet · 23/09/2022 14:48

I don't own any joggers.

And PJs are for bed. My mum is the type that likes to waft around the house in a dressing gown. I don't like it, I sometimes bring mine down to use as a blanket if I am cold in the lounge when watching TV but I'd never actually wear it.

YouSirNeighMmmm · 23/09/2022 14:48

YABU. The trick is to wear comfy clothes all of the time so you don't have to change out of them to be comfortable at home. When I am forced to wear uncomfortable clothes (very occasionally I have to be smart for work, for example) I would of course get changed the moment I go home.

Jeans are comfortable!

DrDetriment · 23/09/2022 14:48

Totally with you OP. I've just got in and can't wait to take my bra off but can't because the decorator is here...

shinynewapple22 · 23/09/2022 14:48

I'm with you OP. Always in 'jamas or trackies at home . As well we being more comfortable it also means my decent clothes last longer, don't need washing so often and I don't get fed up with them either.

UniBallEye · 23/09/2022 14:49

I work outside the house & wear smart casual clothes to work - day to day I wear whistles, jigsaw, sezane, zadig & voltaire, the kooples to work.

There's literally NO WAY I'm going to keep those clothes on to cook dinner, pet the cat , do laundry, clean the toilet etc so once I know I'm in for the evening I change into lounge wear - soft jersey bottoms in plain colours & a soft hoody with slippers.

We all do know now. Dh showers & changes into lounge bottoms & tshirt with fleece.

Dd does the same with uniform

I never wear pjs in bed. I sleep in a vest top & knickers

HideTheCroissants · 23/09/2022 14:49

Jeans ARE my lounging around clothes!

I got home from work an hour ago and had a cuppa and did some life admin still dressed in my skirt and blouse. I’ve just come back downstairs having changed into my jeans and a t-shirt. I’m just having a bit of MN time before I do some housework - still in my jeans and t-shirt. PJs are for bed if it’s cold or sharing a room with someone other than DH.

But I do not think OP is a weirdo…. each to their own unless they’re hurting someone 🤷‍♀️

JestersTear · 23/09/2022 14:49

I don't wear PJs around the house, but I do have 'indoor clothes' and 'outdoor clothes'. When I know I won't have to go out again, I'll change into leggings, a comfy top/jumper, socks and slippers etc. Now, that's not to say that the clothing I wear outside is necessarily uncomfortable, it's just not 'flopping around the house' comfortable.
DH on the other hand stays dressed the same unless he's been in a suit.

hoovermanouvre · 23/09/2022 14:50

People that wear old pyjamas all day - do your husbands never tell you they are tired of seeing you mooching about like a scruffy and to make a bit of effort?

Mindmyown · 23/09/2022 14:50

My dp was the same but since pandemic lock downs he has converted lol so now when he gets in from work he gets into comfy joggers and tshirt, he works a lot more from home now too so he'll shower, shave, get dressed for online meetings but gets into comfy clothes again by 5 pm.

We don't live in an area where we would get random callers & I'll stay in regular clothes or put on jeans if I'm expecting a visitor.
As for postman/deliveries I'm usually dressed in the morning as I have school run & work so if I'm there to meet postman I'm usually dressed.

WhereAreTheLostPens · 23/09/2022 14:50

-We always take out shoes off

-None of us own slippers!

-I love my jeans, live in my jeans, they are the most comfortable things ever!!

-people that moan about other people not spelling alot properly are the weird ones

-people moaning about the people moaning about people not spelling alot properly are of course completely fabulous.

Summerfun54321 · 23/09/2022 14:32

I would fancy my husband a lot less if I constantly saw him in PJs rather than clothes. I’m pretty sure he’d feel the same. There’s something really unattractive about people slobbing around the house in stretch jersey all the time.

I'm lucky then as my DH looks really good in lounge wear.

DappledThings · 23/09/2022 14:52

My jeans and bras are perfectly comfy. I've never had the urge to fling either item off as soon as I get home.

elkiedee · 23/09/2022 14:52

As for layers of clothes, I will be wearing leggings or tights when I go out, with jumpers and shawls layered on. They are light to carry in my bag when I get too hot, on the tube or in some buildings, for example, and also I can carry them if I think it will get a lot colder while I'm out. Then at home, pyjama trousers or an ancient pair of leggings with lots of holes in with my nighties, and jumpers which aren't fit for outside wear, and extra little blankets etc.
