To think alot of you are weird

Clickbait title I know, but on the back of another active thread I'm genuinely curious about this.

I honestly think anyone that doesn't instantly change into comfy clothes (pj's or lounge wear etc.) As soon as they come home are seriously weird. How can you get comfy on the couch in fecking jeans 🙈 I also can't do chores in normal clothes, has to be old pj's.
If I'm not going anywhere for the day then I just shower and get into a different pj set. I can't stand wearing shoes indoors either, so slippers are lined up on the shoe stand near front door.
My kids don't even need to be asked, once they come home from anywhere (shool, shopping etc.) They take off shoes and go change into comfy clothes. I'm in no way a germaphobe, it's not related in any way to cleanliness, its just comfort.

This was not my upbringing, my dad ran his business from our home so there was always alot of traffic at our home, people coming & going. So we always had to be fully dressed, hair neat with shoes on from early morning till evening. He thought, and still thinks, wearing pj's during the day looks dirty or lazy.

So anyway:

YABU - I don't change as soon as I get home, you are the weirdo.
YANBU - yep, always instantly into fluffy socks and stretchy bottoms.

I voted YABU because I don’t wear uncomfortable clothing, I like being able to pop in and out without needing to get changed (plans change!) and I would spend the whole day feeling uncomfortable if not dressed due to the possibility someone knocks on my door/ I need to accept a delivery.
I do get the kids to get changed after school though - sometimes to save me from having to wash the school uniform on a daily basis and sometimes so I quickly can get a wash load on ready for the coming days in school.

Vallmo47 · 23/09/2022 14:29

PS. Neither option is weird.

MajorCarolDanvers · 23/09/2022 14:30

PJs are for bed - its completely slobby to wear them during the day unless unwell.

That said I do wear comfortable clothes in the house. But not nightwear.

AuldReekie1905 · 23/09/2022 14:31

I have "house" clothes that I wear! Things that I don't sleep in but don't go out in either...oversized jumpers, comfy joggers. But if I was ill and collapsed on the bed in my jeans, I wouldn't be that bothered about changing because of germs... Only to get comfy.

Choconut · 23/09/2022 14:31

I put YANBU but I never wear jeans as too uncomfortable and live in jogging bottoms mainly. Often wear a dressing gown over my clothes. So I generally don't get changed as such as i generally spend all my time in comfy stuff.

loislovesstewie · 23/09/2022 14:32

Another vote for jeans, t shirt and trainers being perfectly comfie. If I was working I would change into them when I got home but that was because I wore trouser suits to work and didn't want to ruin them when I did household chores. But no pj's until bed time.

Summerfun54321 · 23/09/2022 14:32

I would fancy my husband a lot less if I constantly saw him in PJs rather than clothes. I’m pretty sure he’d feel the same. There’s something really unattractive about people slobbing around the house in stretch jersey all the time.

hoovermanouvre · 23/09/2022 14:33

Why is it 1950s to not be wearing pyjamas? What does that have to do with pyjamas.. No I don't have any because what is the point? What is the point? I have various silk robes / dressing gowns and wear them first thing. If your husband comes in and you're not even dressed, I don't think it's a good look at all. Who does that?

Boxofsockss · 23/09/2022 14:34

This is me 100%. The first thing I do when I get back from being out is get comfy. I also do not wear shoes in the house. And no one else can too. Slippers or socks all the way. I only ever Wear either pjs or loungewear in the house unless I’m expecting someone over like family and feeling slightly self conscious then I might make a bit more of an effort but other than that, nope.

Mindmyown · 23/09/2022 14:34

GoldenSpiral · 23/09/2022 14:03

I don't understand how jeans aren't comfy...

I would personally feel a bit embarrassed to open my door in PJs during the day but don't judge others for it. It would make me feel slobbish and scruffy though. I also feel a bit down for some reason. I feel good in myself when I'm well dressed.

My dad would 100% agree with you maybe I just need comfier jeans 😅

We have en-suite bathrooms so we don't leave the bedrooms without being fully dressed.
When my DC were small they had babygros with feet for sleeping and ones without feet to wear with socks for daytime. Day and night wear have always been delineated.
I do wear less formal clothes at the weekends, but don't generally get changed after work unless I've had to wear a suit.

warmeduppizza · 23/09/2022 14:03

I put on smartish clothes as soon as I get up and wear them until bed time. I thought that was normal.

This
I have never in my life worn pyjamas around the house. I usually wear dresses and always feel comfortable. Bare legs now and nice warm tights soon. Never slippers as l think they spread your feet so mostly bare feet.
No one, young or old in this house lounges around in pyjamas..kids in their 20s..probably because its never been a thing.
Each to their own!

drunkinthebackofthecar · 23/09/2022 14:34

Do you all wear make-up/do your hair if you’re spending the day in PJ’s or sweatpants?

TarasHarp55 · 23/09/2022 14:34

I do like to change when it's night time but I won't in daytime. I feel like the night is long enough and wearing PJs in daylight makes it seem like one long night itms. 😊

justasking111 · 23/09/2022 14:35

I do like my slippers but no not sloppy gear because you can guarantee someone would come knocking on the door, neighbours, family. I just wouldn't feel comfortable.

Re cleaning I'm really into aprons with big pockets

Rosehugger · 23/09/2022 14:35

I don't get changed usually as I don't find my normal/work clothes uncomfortable. Plus I often do something in the evening anyway - pick DD1 up from work (though I have done that in my PJs when she finishes at 10.30pm, which is fair enough), yoga classes, go to the supermarket or giving DD2 a lift to dance class or guides.

Crikeyalmighty · 23/09/2022 14:35

I wear very casual clothes all the time anyway (think leggings and wrap over jersey tops)!so never need to change .

Chloefairydust · 23/09/2022 14:35

This is me, I live in my pjs. I consider pyjamas/ loungewear inside clothes and normal clothing outdoor clothes. I’m sure the amazon delivery man must judge me always answering the door in my pyjamas 😂

But yes I think life’s too short to be uncomfortable!

iklboo · 23/09/2022 14:36

YANBU - shoes off, bra off as soon as I get in. Comfies on.

MotherOfPuffling · 23/09/2022 14:37

Seems normal to me, but I grew up in a very Japanese-influenced home thanks to my dad and his love for that culture. So slept on tatami mats and futons, used kneeler stools and low tables, no outside clothes or shoes worn indoors. Plus we had no washing machine so it saved laundry.

I do get dressed every day and don’t wear pyjamas around the house ever but I don’t do it for my husband Confused. I do it because it’s what I prefer. I can’t imagine him caring if I did choose to wear pyjamas/comfy clothes around the house, why would he?

eddiemairswife · 23/09/2022 14:38

My children used to come home from school, change out of uniform and go out to play with friends, but not in their pyjamas. On here there seem to be whole families, who live in pyjamas when they are not at work or at school. Are they the same people who never open the door, unless they have been told that someone is calling?

CaptainBarbosa · 23/09/2022 14:39

I have house clothes 😂 PJ's are for bed. But when I get home I basically change into a "lounge suit" it's joggers, sports socks, slippers and a hoody.

DS changes from school uniform to joggers and a t-shirt also. PJ's are for bed. He's not a fan of slippers but will wear socks around the house.

Cleaning clothes again are different, I have some sports leggings and a baggy t-shirt I change into to do any big cleaning especially if it's includes bleach as I don't want my lounge wear ruined 😂

I don’t wear makeup except for special occasions as I’m rubbish at it, and brush my (short) hair a couple of times a week 😂

NotQuiteUsual · 23/09/2022 14:41

My.mum always wore grotty, old nighties and pyjamas all day. It definitely had an impact on me, because the idea of not being dressed nicely even lounging round the house makes me feel all yucky. I feel most comfortable when I wear nice clothes. DD is in pyjamas the second she's home too, it doesn't bother me one bit though because it's her home too and she needs to be comfortable. Each their own right?

I envy pj people. I can't stand wearing them out of bed.
