To think alot of you are weird

Clickbait title I know, but on the back of another active thread I'm genuinely curious about this.

I honestly think anyone that doesn't instantly change into comfy clothes (pj's or lounge wear etc.) As soon as they come home are seriously weird. How can you get comfy on the couch in fecking jeans 🙈 I also can't do chores in normal clothes, has to be old pj's.
If I'm not going anywhere for the day then I just shower and get into a different pj set. I can't stand wearing shoes indoors either, so slippers are lined up on the shoe stand near front door.
My kids don't even need to be asked, once they come home from anywhere (shool, shopping etc.) They take off shoes and go change into comfy clothes. I'm in no way a germaphobe, it's not related in any way to cleanliness, its just comfort.

This was not my upbringing, my dad ran his business from our home so there was always alot of traffic at our home, people coming & going. So we always had to be fully dressed, hair neat with shoes on from early morning till evening. He thought, and still thinks, wearing pj's during the day looks dirty or lazy.

So anyway:

YABU - I don't change as soon as I get home, you are the weirdo.
YANBU - yep, always instantly into fluffy socks and stretchy bottoms.

It's the thought of having a shower before bed instead of in the morning that I really dislike. I surely can't be the only one who sweats in their sleep and needs to shower before getting dressed and leaving the house in the morning?

hoovermanouvre · 23/09/2022 14:54

"day to day I wear whistles, jigsaw, sezane, zadig & voltaire, the kooples to work.
There's literally NO WAY I'm going to keep those clothes on to cook dinner, pet the cat , do laundry, clean the toilet etc so"

Why can't you pet your cat in a dress from Z&V? If you clean the loo, it's just a brush. You don't need to actually get in the loo.

CoffeeIsForClosers · 23/09/2022 14:54

You are preaching to the choir with me! I LOOOOOVE my indoor clothes and have spent a fortune on them. It's all about the fabrics for me. Lovely unisex plaid brushed cotton bottoms, cotton tops, soft sheepskin, and oodles and oodles of cashmere and wool to wrap around me. That's my happy place.

I also love it as a look, which is probably a bit weird. I always think women on TV look better in hoodies and pyjamas and t-shirts, with their hair just artfully messy and the no make-up make-up look than all done up in dresses and heels.

People that wear old pyjamas all day - do your husbands never tell you they are tired of seeing you mooching about like a scruffy and to make a bit of effort?

I always have make up on and nice clothes when we go out. Then if we are having a movie night at home we put our lounge wear on. Lounge wear doesn't have to be old pyjames. There is some nice stuff out there.

DoYouRememberDiedreBarlow · 23/09/2022 14:54

We're all a bit weird, hence the need to discuss our weird and wonderful ways on this site.

iloveeverykindofcat · 23/09/2022 14:54

My jeans are comfortable. I don't buy uncomfortable clothes for the vast majority of my activities. Why would you? The only time I might change when I come in is if I was especially dressed up for an event.

Miriam101 · 23/09/2022 14:54

god I would feel like such a slob wearing PJs during the day, sorry OP

VioletInsolence · 23/09/2022 14:54

I wear exercise clothes in the morning then have a shower after lunch and put on smarter clothes until about 6.30pm. I wear a dressing gown over my clothes when I’m at home though even in the summer.

mrsm43s · 23/09/2022 14:56

All my clothes are comfy. If they weren't, I wouldn't buy them. So I only change into my nightwear when I go to bed.

I wear comfortable regular clothes, inside and outside the house, during the day, and comfortable nightwear for sleeping in overnight.

Why are people buying uncomfortable clothes?

mydogisthebest · 23/09/2022 14:56

I don't even own pj's. I think they are awful. No way would I be wearing them indoors during the day if I did own any.

If I am home all day I wear a T.shirt and loose trousers. If I go out I don't always change when I get home. It depends what I am wearing.

No, I didn't marry an arsehole. Sorry if you did though Sad

Weightlossanne · 23/09/2022 15:02

I change when I come home from work into jeans but that’s only so my office clothes don’t get stains on from cooking and cleaning. If I go out at the weekend I will only change when I get in if I’m gardening or decorating.

Mindmyown · 23/09/2022 15:03

Funkyblues101 · 23/09/2022 14:28

I agree with your father. It just seems lazy.

Why lazy though?

If I've done a full day at work, come home & change into something comfy before tackling dinner/chores/dealing with kids etc why would that make you think it's lazy?

On days I'm not working and don't have plans, I'll stay in pj's or comfy clothes, spend the day doing chores/deep cleaning and getting all the laundry done, I get a bit hot and bothered doing this in jeans but can quickly bounce around the house in joggers and tank top and don't have to worry about splashing a bit of bleach on them or if dc are doing arts I don't mind glue or paint stains 🤷‍♀️

I'll get dressed for company but I'll keep slippers on, we live in an area where we don't expect surprise callers.

I don’t have PJ’s (I always sleep in just knickers). But definitely wear loungewear at home, I like being as comfortable as possible and soft stretch crop instead of a bra.

Mammma91 · 23/09/2022 15:03

YANBU. I love comfy clothes! Can’t stand lingering about the house in jeans. The bra must come off too and slippers on 😂 my 3 year old came home from nursery 10 minutes ago and straight away brought me his slippers. Comfort always!

CallMeLinda · 23/09/2022 15:03

I usually change at least the bottoms to joggers or PJs. Unless I'm expecting anyone to come around.

Oldrockingchair · 23/09/2022 15:03

Big judgment here. People who wear pjs unless it’s bedtime are in my eyes lazy & slovenly. I’m an up, running/dog walking, showered, dressed person by 9am even on weekends. I have people sitting around in bed clothes - urgh. It actually makes me feel a bit sick thinking about it!

Oldrockingchair · 23/09/2022 15:03

Hate, not have

I think you have to have balance for this reason. I hate the idea that I only get dressed up and put makeup on for other people - work or friends or whatever. Even if we’re not leaving the house I like to make an effort - for myself and for my husband. I just feel a bit groggy if I look in the mirror and my hair is greasy and I have no make up on. That’s for sick days.

Equally, we both do have nice loungewear we like to change into if we’re watching TV of an evening, after dinner. It’s not the pyjamas we wear to bed though, they’re for bed only. It’s nice to feel comfy and relaxed together but also know that isn’t how we are every day.

drunkinthebackofthecar · 23/09/2022 15:04

I also have to ask the people who don’t own PJ’s - what do you wear if you stay with other people in their houses?

Hadjab · 23/09/2022 15:06

My kids have labelled me a psychopath because I can pull on a pair of jeans in the morning and wear them until I go to bed at night. I do wear comfy clothes at home if I'm not leaving the house at all though.

Twinsmummy1812 · 23/09/2022 15:07

I think I have this sussed. I’m at home most of the day but had to nip out for school runs etc. black joggers/yoga pants from M&S, black skechers and a nice ish gypsy style cotton top (White Stuff/Boden/Next) sort of stuff. All really comfortable but smart enough to pop to the supermarket etc if you want to. No buttons or zips and never too hot (important for my time of life!)

Topgub · 23/09/2022 15:07

@hoovermanouvre

Why would my husband give a shit what I was wearing when he came in?

Do you presume all women just sit waiting at home looking pretty waiting for their ohs to come home?

@drunkinthebackofthecar

No. I dont wear make when I get dressed either though.

dudsville · 23/09/2022 15:08

I can't vote - i think your problem is your casual clothing isn't comfy. I'm currently wearing a dress for work that will see me through until bedtime. I have a range of wonderful things, all of which are comfortable for being at home and at work, or on a plane, or out for a walk or meal out. You're weird (😉) for not having the same flexibility in your wardrobe!

Stressybetty · 23/09/2022 15:08

We have dogs and also decorating so I tend to have nice casual clothes just for work, shopping etc like jeans, hoodies, jumpers etc and joggers, t shirts and older cardigans, jumpers etc for home. Currently on career break but would normally change when I get home from work and hang work clothes up to keep nice.
