To think alot of you are weird

Clickbait title I know, but on the back of another active thread I'm genuinely curious about this.

I honestly think anyone that doesn't instantly change into comfy clothes (pj's or lounge wear etc.) As soon as they come home are seriously weird. How can you get comfy on the couch in fecking jeans 🙈 I also can't do chores in normal clothes, has to be old pj's.
If I'm not going anywhere for the day then I just shower and get into a different pj set. I can't stand wearing shoes indoors either, so slippers are lined up on the shoe stand near front door.
My kids don't even need to be asked, once they come home from anywhere (shool, shopping etc.) They take off shoes and go change into comfy clothes. I'm in no way a germaphobe, it's not related in any way to cleanliness, its just comfort.

This was not my upbringing, my dad ran his business from our home so there was always alot of traffic at our home, people coming & going. So we always had to be fully dressed, hair neat with shoes on from early morning till evening. He thought, and still thinks, wearing pj's during the day looks dirty or lazy.

So anyway:

YABU - I don't change as soon as I get home, you are the weirdo.
YANBU - yep, always instantly into fluffy socks and stretchy bottoms.

I told this top dog at work that I put my pjs on the minute I get home and he looked at me like I had 2 heads. Growing up I never did this, as my mum would it’s lazy to be such a ‘slob’, and ‘what if anyone came over’ but I don’t care. I cannot sit down when I come home in my work clothes and relax. I would never however wear pjs outside the house. Sometimes tho I wear my comfies to bed and might go drop the children off in what look like day clothes 🤭

Doingprettywellthanks · 24/09/2022 15:37

i can’t believe the number threads where the OP has adhd. It’s astonishing. We’ve just been quoted £2k for a private assessment for my son. And yet the diagnosis for adult females seems to be a common occurrence!

Maybe some of us think you're a slob. Maybe. Certainly wonder why you wear any clothes that aren't comfortable.

I think it's my mindset, if I'm dressed in "outside" clothes I feel like I need to be somewhere and I can't really switch off, and if I'm cleaning I like not having to care about getting them dirty doing a messy job as opposed to like spashing bleach on a pair of jeans that I like.... its not even that my regular clothes are not comfortable for out and about but I do find loungewear more comfortable at home... I mean isn't that the point of pj's or loungewear? there meant to be more comfortable than our regular clothes otherwise what's the point?

But I appreciate not everyone feels this way and a lot would consider me weird, even a slob, if I opened the door to them in loungewear 😅 I'm very house proud if that makes any difference 🤷‍♀️ if you come in for a cup of tea maybe you can over look the joggers & appreciate my house is at least presentable 😊

Oh I wouldn't wear them outside the house 😂😂 I'm actually very put together when I am out and about/working etc, but I can't switch off at home till I change.

I was diagnosed "later" in life, I've suffered really bad anxiety/depression throughout my life mixed with very poor executive function, obsessive tendencies & hyperfocus that would result in me going days without eating/sleeping properly, I eventually went to get assessed expecting something like bipolar but got a referral to HALMS (irish) & was eventually diagnose with adhd .... my assessments took months of meetings etc. And was quite slow possibly because of my age at the time. Diagnoses hasn't made any difference to my life, maybe it would have if I was diagnosed as a child. But there's comfort in knowing if that makes sense, it answered alot of questions & I like myself so much more now, and can accept this is just who I am.

I think it’s weird too. Whenever I watch a movie or tv and people come home from work or from being out and are wearing their smart business suit/jeans and they sit on the sofa or start doing things around the house it seems weird to me. Even more weird if they keep their shoes on. When I get home even if I’m wearing jeans I change into my comfy house clothes which is usually something stretchy and soft. I just can’t get comfy in my work clothes/outside clothes.

Foldingchair · 24/09/2022 16:25

Aren't you all cold in pjs? I tend to have slobs after work, but pjs are only warm enough in bed.

Topgub · 24/09/2022 16:27

@Foldingchair

I dont sleep in pjs so the pjs I wear about the house are temp appropriate

Foldingchair · 24/09/2022 16:34

I'm currently wearing primark leggings with fleece inside. Anything less than that and I'm cold!

Unless they are cotton I think I'd itch unless I had something under the top.
I also can't reconcile wanting to be all warm and snuggly with a bare midriff!
I am slim, but when flopping about on the sofa my midriff would concertina.

They are mix and match and have non crop top options to match & I don't find them itchy at all but I'm guessing that's subjective ... I wear crop tops a lot in my personal time (like when socialising or out & about in town) so I suppose it doesn't bother me, I think if my couch was leather though I'd probably opt for the longer tops, I hate the feeling of bare skin on leather ... misguided have lovely comfy looking oversized jumpers in their loungewear options at the moment & I'll prob invest in a few of these now as weather is getting colder 🥶

Those fuzzy things are what my DD wears, shorts, crop tops and a giant cardigan hanging off her then moans she's cold and wants the heating on 🙄

JackieDaws · 23/09/2022 14:19

Just buy clothes that fit instead of squeezing into uncomfortable jeans that are probably a size too small.

My jeans aren't too small though, I'm a size UK4 maybe a 6 in some shops I'm a very petite , 5'3, even my shoe size is a tiny UK 2. I've literally no hips or bum 🙈 it's quite sad & depressing actually 😅 practically built like a boy if it wasn't for the boobs. I'd be absolutely delighted with myself if I could fill a larger size and am positively green with envy of anyone that has that peachy asset 🍑😂

But talking about sizes of things isn't answering the problem. If things fit and are appropriate for the task then they will also be comfortable. Today I'm wearing cord trousers, a cotton button down top and a jumper - the size isn't the most important factor here. It's the fit, regardless of the size, that makes this the best thing to wear at home in the day time. I look smart and I can lounge around on the sofa or do squats, my choice, but it will be done as comfortably as if I had on pyjamas.

megletthesecond · 25/09/2022 12:47

I wear baggy jeans. They aren't warm enough or stretchy enough to wear at home. That's what thick trackpants are for.

I only mentioned size as pp had suggested I might be buying a size too small.... tbf I kind of believe you may be on to something though, I actually find cord trousers more comfortable than most others, must be the material I like. I wouldn't be able to clean properly in cords though as I'd be too conscious of staining them with cleaning product so I'd still likely change out of them if I was planning to clean. I'm also not itching to change if I happen to be wearing a cotton dress with tights (I love wearing tights) but I don't wear dresses everyday 🤷‍♀️ I've actually taken to wearing mom jeans now and find them very comfortable for out and about compared to say skinny jeans but still prefer the comfort of lighter material lounge bottoms at home. Denim just isn't very comfortable for lounging imo ....

It's a good thing so that you don't have to if you don't want to 🤷‍♀️ lol, I never said people should change into different clothes at home, I just asked if you did or if you think I'm weird for doing so. It's really a very harmless thread topic, meant as a cheeky wee peek behind other people's front door at something quite insignificant.

Plus could you please refrain from insulting other people. Feeling comfier in one's own home wearing pj's/lounge wear does not make anyone a "saggy, scruffy invalid" that's a truly disgusting view.

Sorry if I insulted anyone! I think what I meant is wearing pj-type clothes when I'm not going to bed me feel like a saggy scruffy invalid. In my defense, you did call people like me weird!

I think a lot of people don't realise that 'alot' isn't a word.

We can make it one! By the power of enough people always using it this way we can make this a reality!

A napron became an apron; a lot can become alot.

No, it really would not be OK on zoom 😂- it looks like what it is (which is pyjamas)

Oh please, don't encourage them - where do you draw the line/
I've had annacident to anarm and been in anambulance.
Would you like alot or alittle bit?
Did you know that milk comes from acow?

I really don't understand this mistake- it's two simple words and shows ignorance in my eyes, yet it's so common. I just did a bit of research and apparently it may be that people have an association with the word allot, even though it means something entirely different and wouldn't be confused in usage.

mondaytosunday · 25/09/2022 22:06

I never wore uncomfortable clothes to work so no I didn't change as soon as I came home.
I notice my daughter gets in to jammies as soon as she gets in from her 8 hours at school and hour commute home in the train, and she's just wearing jeans and a t shirt at school.
