Would you lie on your bed in the clothes you've been wearing all day?

My dh got home from the dentist yesterday afternoon (he had a wisdom tooth taken out), he was in a bit of pain and discomfort so went to lie down. I went to check if he was ok/needed anything and saw he was lying on our bed fully clothed with the clothes he had on all day. I told him that was disgusting and could he remove them please, but he didn't understand why. He said (via text as he couldn't talk) 'But where have I been sat? The dentist? Where everything is famously clean?' That day he had also been sat in the car, been to the shops, taken our dc to school. If it was me I would always remove jeans etc. and put on pj's or clean leggings/joggers before lying on the bed.

Who is right?

You are not!

You should be more concerned about his wellbeing and comfort than anything else!

GawjussPreMadonna · 24/09/2022 21:48

Genuinely confused about why the bed needs to be kept germ free (assuming that's the issue with the outdoor clothes on the bed?) but other furniture/household surfaces don't?

Live and let live people!

If only the OP thought the same eh? If a woman had posted that she came home from having a tooth out, felt so ill she couldn't speak, and then her husband called her disgusting and turfed her off the bed because she had her clothes on, the husband would be called abusive on here.

This exactly

Bernardo1 · 24/09/2022 21:51

I very much like, that you have the capacity and dignity to reasses yr view and move forward, he's fortunate.

mycatisannoying · 24/09/2022 21:52

YABU.

emptylandscape · 24/09/2022 21:56

No, I wouldn't get changed to. I'd get undressed if I was getting in bed.

Agree, your first thought should be for his wellbeing, not the bed. Germs = life. YABVU.

stillherenow · 24/09/2022 21:58

I work in bed fully dressed sometimes. DD comes hole and gets into bed dressed. Never occurred to me it was an issue ! (It's not )

Since I come to no harm from wearing my clothes all day, I'm not sure what difference it makes if they then touch my duvet cover. Why is it worse than them touching my sofa cushions?

Good question.

Yabu OP. He couldn’t talk, was in pain, and you thought berating him about this crap was a good idea?

Lakalla · 24/09/2022 22:37

Do you have ocd ? x

BlackeyedSusan · 24/09/2022 22:38

You are both right but not compatible. I am a no outside stuff on the bed person. Other people are not.

Fluffmum · 24/09/2022 22:39

My husband does this it drives me crackers.

Mirabeladawer · 24/09/2022 21:40

OP- I'm clearly in the minority but I agree with you on this. If you've been out all day you should get changed before getting into bed. I'm surprised at how many people think this is OK, but I think it's poor hygiene.

It's not about getting IN bed. Posters are talking about laying ON the bed. Some think it is not ok to even sit on the bed in outdoor clothes!

newnamethanks · 24/09/2022 22:49

O please. You are wrong. Get him some paracetamol and leave him alone.

Reimu · 24/09/2022 23:11

I would never get on the bed after a long sweaty day. It's not just bacteria, dead skin cells, oils and sweat, you then take a shower and lay on a bed where you once again marinate on that filth that you left behind earlier.
On that note, if someone is tired, they can just be replaced. Or get one of those topper thingies to remove at the end of the day and one can lay ontop of it if one must.

autyspauty · 24/09/2022 23:20

You mean my pyjamas?

Sooverthisnow · 24/09/2022 23:23

Utter nonsense, OP.

TheHoover · 24/09/2022 23:54

if someone is tired they can just be replaced
Bit harsh on the husband don’t you think?

I am a nurse. I am 62. When I get home after a 12 hour shift - no different from any other working class women or men, who are on their feet all day - I flop on the bed in my uniform. I usually nod off for an hour.
I don’t care what you think.

This is disgusting and i hope you didn’t do this during peak covid. Isn’t it a well known fact that hospital workers should change out of uniform to reduce the spread of disease. Please stop this.

grannieali · 25/09/2022 01:31

This is a strange conversation. Surely you have a quilt or covered duvet on your bed? If you are so nervous about outside contamination, just wash the top cover next day without making a fuss. I don't think think may people actually get under the covers in outdoor clothing. Too hot for one thing.

Mothership4two · 25/09/2022 02:30

There have been a few OTT responses on this thread - I am assuming from OCD sufferers?

N1no · 25/09/2022 02:34

sst1234 · 23/09/2022 11:34

You are not wrong OP. But this is MN, where people openly admit to not washing their hands when using the toilet at home. Their are threads about this.

I have to admit to that. I still think it is wrong though but I haven’t found a solution yet. When the neuro dermatitis is so bad that there is no skin left on the hands it is agony to run water over them and even worse with soap. DP wipes if he is home but he is not always there.
Happy to stop eating but no drinks?!?

PinkSyCo · 25/09/2022 03:05

Do you let him sit on the sofa in the clothes he’s been wearing all day?

LittleMissBeamer · 25/09/2022 03:36

It sounds like you might suffer from OCD. As a sufferer myself, I can totally see where you’re coming from. I can’t put on pajamas, if I’m going to be sitting on the sofa, because then they won’t be clean in the bed. Yes, I know it sounds absolutely crazy. If you truly suffer from OCD, then unfortunately you suffer with these ridiculous thoughts. See, I even know that they are ridiculous, but I still can’t stop them. My family are extremely understanding, I hope that yours are too.

Peoplethesedays · 25/09/2022 04:29

I feel the same way tbh it's gross the amount of germs transferred from outside into our homes.. everyone in my house hold knows to put fresh PJ's or clothing on if there not planning on going back out.. common sense.. some of you lot are mad for allowing a someone who's been in dirty public places lay in a bed in the very same clothes they wore out all day..

EmmaLou123 · 25/09/2022 05:19

I agree with you, when you get home you need to change as just a good habit to have. I would not expect my kids to sit on their beds with their school uniform, I've got them in the habit of changing as soon as they come through the door.
