Would you lie on your bed in the clothes you've been wearing all day?

My dh got home from the dentist yesterday afternoon (he had a wisdom tooth taken out), he was in a bit of pain and discomfort so went to lie down. I went to check if he was ok/needed anything and saw he was lying on our bed fully clothed with the clothes he had on all day. I told him that was disgusting and could he remove them please, but he didn't understand why. He said (via text as he couldn't talk) 'But where have I been sat? The dentist? Where everything is famously clean?' That day he had also been sat in the car, been to the shops, taken our dc to school. If it was me I would always remove jeans etc. and put on pj's or clean leggings/joggers before lying on the bed.

Who is right?

Funny some of these post 😆

Kteeb1 · 24/09/2022 18:10

You have handled the thread really well. Most of the time on MN people will ask a question and just get annoyed when anyone doesnt agree. You didnt do that and got loads of abuse and judgment! Well done for asking and then taking action. You sound nice.

wentworthinmate · 24/09/2022 18:12

Op absolutely bonkers and concerned enough to post on Mumsnet. WTH?

Thefsm · 24/09/2022 18:23

Hahahahahaha.

seriously?

i can French sleep in whatever I wore all day and wear it the next day too. I change when I have a shower/go out.

Wanttobeanon123 · 24/09/2022 18:26

Errmm... Have I missed something? Did he in someway soil the bed with his 'fluids'? Did he smash the bed up? Refuse to leave the bed after all this time? .... Otherwise, what on earth is the point of your question. You should get a hobby or something.. I've heard knitting is fun

Thisgroupneverceasestoamazeme · 24/09/2022 18:30

Yup…I’m literally doing this as I scroll through MN…I’m under the covers too…

BerriesOnTop · 24/09/2022 18:31

Normally would agree with u but not when sick or in pain

BoffinMum · 24/09/2022 18:34

I’m literally doing this now, it’s not an operating theatre ffs

Darbs76 · 24/09/2022 18:35

Of course I would.

Shauny098 · 24/09/2022 18:35

This post makes my laugh as my husband knows he isn’t allowed to “relax in jeans”….it makes me uncomfortable 🤣🤣. We laugh about it but it genuinely brings me out in a cold sweat! And don’t get me started on ppl watching tv whilst wearing shoes 😷

ewright86 · 24/09/2022 18:42

YABU. I also find it crazy that you’re only apologising because people online who you don’t know are telling you you’re wrong.

vickylou78 · 24/09/2022 18:50

This is bonkers Op. Shock horror someone led on bed wearing clothes!!! It's madness what are you doing in bed that you need it to be that clean?????Mumsnet is bonkers sometimes. What a poor bloke I feel sorry for him. Wondering what other rules he has to abide by!

Kgiggl3s · 24/09/2022 18:51

How has this never happened before?! 😂 I am more perplexed that you are actually married and this is a new issue... meaning neither have you have ever lay on the bed with your clothes on before lol. Total madness! 🤣🤣

Just when I thought MN couldn't get any more weird... Has your husband not suggested you get some help for your phobia? Or told you to stop controlling his (perfectly normal) behaviour? I certainly wouldn't be laughing if my husband started dictating what I could and couldn't wear to relax in my own home! Why does your discomfort trump his?

ladypink1 · 24/09/2022 18:54

no shoe house here and we do change clothes when we get in 🤷🏻‍♀️

Isn't allowed to? If my husband told me I couldn't wear something in the house, or wasn't 'allowed' to lay on a bed fully clothed I'd tell him to fuck off. And that would be that.

Sportbilly79 · 24/09/2022 19:05

Wow - pretty sure people should be able to respond to say they think she’s being unreasonable without the nasty judgy comments!

acacia333 · 24/09/2022 19:07

I would also be funny about this to be honest. Don't like outdoor clothes on beds!
I am a bit of a germaphobe though (and have been worse since the pandemic.) I make my kids change out of their school uniform as soon as they're home too.
No shoes in the house. Wash hands after coming into the house and touching pets.

BellePeppa · 24/09/2022 19:11

I never understand people who get wrapped up in petty crap. Life is way too short to sweat such unimportant stuff. If anyone dared tell me what I could and couldn't wear to relax in or that I had to change my (clean) clothes before lying on a bed or sitting on a sofa in my own home they would get an effing mouthful. But I guess there are probably many men and women who grit their teeth through it, smile sweetly and offload their annoyance to the mistress/lover they’ve been driven to.

MsRosley · 24/09/2022 19:18

Jesus H Christ, get a grip, OP. If he were in the bed I might have thought you had a point, possibly. But in this instance you're totally out of order.

Gen77 · 24/09/2022 19:22

I agree with you! I feel the other messages are rather harsh. Dentists are not clean places! I would want him to change his clothes which would only take a few moments!

Oh course dental surgeries are clean places, what a bizarre thing to say. Cleaner than most homes.

And why all the exclamation marks Confused

Getmoveon14 · 24/09/2022 19:27

As a compromise could you get a bedspread? I use a bedspread, not because I have an issue with clothes, but with the cat coming in all muddy and jumping on the bed - without charge his fur!

freccle · 24/09/2022 19:27

YABU

UneFoisAuChalet · 24/09/2022 19:29

Nah, I’d be the same. My mother never let us sit on our beds in ‘outside’ clothes. I also had a boyfriend who did similar. He was particularly offended if I’d been on public transport.

I supposed I’ve carried that habit into adulthood. I don’t really enforce it but I have been known to tell my kids to get off their beds if their wearing sports kits or mud stained clothes.
