24th September - dooms day... what?!

So we are currently away on holiday, just spoken to friends back home who asked if we had heard about this viral 'news' (I put that lightly)

Apparently on 24th September, there is going to be a large, catastrophic world event in which everybody will remember exactly where we are and what we were doing at that exact moment.

Does anybody else know anything about this?! Maybe I'm just blissfully unaware!

I hope not. I'm hiring a van for the weekend and don't want to pay for 2 days if I can't use it on Sunday.

I think I love you @BitOutOfPractice 😂

I have MIL coming to stay for the first time since Covid. That is catastrophic enough for me.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂now that’s is a catastrophe.

BloodAndFire · 22/09/2022 17:59

Imagine being on holiday in a glorious far-flung location and having nothing better to do than post conspiracy theories on Mumsnet.

Fuck me.

Topseyt123 · 22/09/2022 18:00

Well, I've read that 24th September is World Bollywood Day and also World Cherries 🍒 Jubilee Day, so the world cannot possibly be ending then. 😃

macthekwife · 22/09/2022 18:05

So I clicked someone's handy little link. It all started with this apparently:

Friedrich Merz, the German politician, speaking in the Bundestag says: “This 24th of September will remain in our memories. In the future we’ll say ‘I remember where I was on that day’.” No one really knows what the politician was talking about and that apparently is enough grounds for creating a doomsday rumour.

So, thankfully we've been assured it definitely isn't about the end of the world, even though no one knows what it's about (take your time on that one)

Let's have a look at that then which is the source of this debacle? %26Suave%7C%7CJESUS%C3%A9Santo

I don't speak German so can't decipher this. Here's a shorter version of the actual bit apparently www.tiktok.com/@anonymous.anonymore/video/7142525726321839366?is_from_webapp=v1&item_id=7142525726321839366

So then what IS he on about? Anyone? None of the handy debunkers mention what he IS on about, why?

JustAWeirdoWithNoName · 22/09/2022 18:07

I'm going to a wedding so it will definitely be memorable for the bride and groom! ☺️

Is he Germany's version of Boris Johnson ?

I could figure what the hell he was ever on about

This video says what he really means is he meant to say February 24th which was the beginning of the Russian attack on Ukraine, so this was a tiny error taken out of proportion. The official butenstag website transcribed the speech and corrected the date.

There you go, always go to source.

Bestcatmum · 22/09/2022 18:09

Shit that's only in 2 days time, I'd better go out and party my ass off.

Bestcatmum · 22/09/2022 18:10

Then again my time might be better spent stockpiling toilet roll.

StridTheKiller · 22/09/2022 18:13

I am psychic and specialise in fortelling disaster s large, medium and small. We are indeed all going to oof in a world wide catastrophy, the magnitude of which cannot be imagined, on the 24th September 2022. So i implore you all to settle any scores in your lives, level up, say your piece before it is too late. Horrendous Mother in Law? Ring her up tonight and list her failings so truth can run free! Go and knock on your Neighbour From Hell's door and tell them that if they dare block you in once more their car will be going up in flames! Return each and every piece of catshit you can find in your garden to your cat owning neighbours, infact, add a few of your own stools to the mix for good measure! Kids' got a horrid teacher? Throat them in the playground tomorrow and brawl it out!
Then pop back on here for the last few hours of life and we can have a final Mumsnet to end all Mumsnet session while the world implodes.

GrammarTeacher · 22/09/2022 18:15

It started on Qanon apparently and is linked to the conspiracy that The Simpsons predicts things.
Make of that what you will.

Foreverhopeful1 · 22/09/2022 18:15

Well that will be just my luck ! It’s my 40th on the 24th lol

JOFFCV · 22/09/2022 18:18

I had a business person saying they were going to move their money to lots of different bank accounts because something was happening on the 24th. I did not know what the hell they were talking about.

frankie001 · 22/09/2022 18:18

Ffs just my luck the end of the world is on a work day!

Somanycuddlybears · 22/09/2022 18:20

No work on Monday though…

"Started on QAnon"

Okay, go on then, what does that mean?

I hope not. I'm hiring a van for the weekend and don't want to pay for 2 days if I can't use it on Sunday.

Think positive, you will save a fortune by not having to fill up the tank before you return the van.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 22/09/2022 18:32

Technically, it's payday for me after a promotion, 25% increase in hours and a fuckton of backclaimed overtime and six months' petty cash finally being settled.

So I'm willing to bet it feels like doomsday for accounts.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 22/09/2022 18:34

I've spent my entire working day on social media and not seen any of this at all Confused. Maybe the algorithm knows I'm not the target market (i.e. not easily manipulated).

FairyPrincess123 · 22/09/2022 18:50

Wow that's creepy.

My horoscope today said "All the woes of yesteryear are as nothing compared to what will befall you on Saturday"

StarbucksSmarterSister · 22/09/2022 18:56

It's Nostradamus I think. AKA a load of bollocks

ultrablue · 22/09/2022 18:59

Well of course it's the 24th I've booked a fancy hotel garden Room, where the breakfasts are apparently legendary for DH 60th, well for me actually haha and a nice restaurant.

Hopefully it'll happen on the 25th instead 🤣

MzHz · 22/09/2022 19:08

hmm… any point in me getting my MOT done tomorrow? 😀

🤣🤣

Every year we are having a doomsday event.

One year the prediction will come true and someone will say "X predicted that" and it'll go down in history.

They'll ignore the 500 incorrect predictions along the way Grin
