For those following this existing thread: www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4635864-tradesperson-inviting-people-into-my-home?page=1 aka the tale of the fluffy blanket and the dodgy electrics thread, it continues here.

Nothing new to add at the moment though, but the previous thread is almost at capacity.

Fair enough OP. He was totally out of order bringing a stranger into your home , especially when you trusted him.
Id have been uncomfortable knowing that he could invite her over again but I understand your practical reasons for keeping him on to do the job..

GnomeDePlume · 22/09/2022 21:59

Your reasoning is entirely sensible. DH was an electrician and said that taking on someone else's work is nigh on impossible when you don't know exactly what they have done or what standard they have worked to.

I am sorry your home and trust has been abused in this way.

LittleBear21 · 22/09/2022 22:15

Looking forward to tomorrow's update.

OnTheBrinkOfChange · 22/09/2022 22:27

Do you live with another adult? I think I'd want someone else there with me when I confronted him.

TheQueenOfHearts · 22/09/2022 22:29

Agreed with @OnTheBrinkOfChange , you don’t know what his reaction could be…

MummyofTw0 · 22/09/2022 22:35

How are you going to bring it up?

Dave20 · 22/09/2022 22:50

To be clear, I have evidence that relates to how the uninvited visitors time is spent at my property but I don't really want to divulge here until the work is concluded in case it is too identifying. I will of course share with you all the nitty gritty details that people are probably hoping for once the work is completed if you can hang on until then. It's not a drip feed, but is withheld out of genuine concern of the press picking up the info and distributing it online. The last thing I want is for the tradesperson to stop or sabotage work before he's finished based on what he might have read online.

Sounds like you have evidence that the visitor is on your property, but do you know what she was actually doing while there? As someone else said 3 or 4 hours is a long time for hanky panky. They could still claim she was helping him with his work.

Emmelina · 22/09/2022 22:57

Watching with interest! I absolutely get that you ought not to be charged for him probably shagging away at least a day’s paid time!

Good luck to you, OP. I hope you get it resolved fairly tomorrow.

Ffs!

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/09/2022 23:45

@IvyPlant obv has Evidence but doesn’t Want to say on here , till she has spoken to electrician.

she has said several times that she will update /let us know what evidence she has off cameras once work is completed and her house is safe

for those who read 1st post we have all said how hard it is to get a tradesman to come in and take over /finish a half completed job
he

hence why op is keeping stum till confronted him

sashadjas · 22/09/2022 23:51

Brilliant thread, it's like a wee soap except way better and my word woman, you're FEISTY! Love it!
Also love the dingbats trying to argue the law, or argue at all, with an ex-copper...seriously does nobody think/rtft/accept their limitations?
Get in there lassie, this is superb!

Stars2theside · 23/09/2022 00:21

Well, I have been following this thread eagerly, I'm incredibly invested in it! OP your updates have been perfect and I make you right in your actions. You are building up your case and I am totally here for it! Thank you for not getting so irritated by the stupidity and leaving the fans (me!) hanging! I cannot wait for tomorrow 😁🤣

Longdistance · 23/09/2022 00:27

@Dave20 bloody love Columbo. It was always at the end he’d reveal who the murderer was. Very apt. Wait until the job is done.

@IvyPlant do you have a rainmac and a cigar?

RobertsRadio · 23/09/2022 00:30

@IvyPlant do you have a rainmac and a cigar?
That would be perfect ☺️

PinkStickleBrick · 23/09/2022 00:58

I thought my builders was checky not washing up ( house empty except for them for months on end).

My dh is an electrician. Trades do get funny about finishing off someone's else's work. With my extension they all thought everyone else was a cowboy which was reassuring and there was almost a punch up with the plumbers. Nightmare

Ffs!

And to actually quote the answer 😂

kateandme · 23/09/2022 01:38

id slowly drip out the evidence. So just start with dock to pay.
let him slowly hang him self. If he comes back I come back each time with your irrefutable evidence.
also please find out what websites he’s on. None else deserve this.
I also feel really sorry for his wife.

Adventurine · 23/09/2022 05:22

All being handled beautifully!

Fraaahnces · 23/09/2022 05:44

I’m waiting for people to cotton onto the fact that @IvyPlant is not looking for opinions or suggestions…

So much electrical work is hidden. Electrician B won't know if Electrician A followed all requirements of Part P. It would be Electrician B putting their name to the certificate.

OP is wise to let this electrician finish and sign off.

BlooberryBiskits · 23/09/2022 06:16

@IvyPlant : I admire how you’ve kept a cool head while your home and trust have been abused

Hope you get the certificates today & that the ‘conversation’ goes well: I think you were planning to have your DP there and that’s a v good idea: a family member confronted a tradesman a few months ago who actually smashed up his work (criminal damage) but police did not act.

Can you speak to him on your drive etc so not inside the house, for your safety ?
