Impossible task: help identifying a song with almost no clues

Hello,

My wife is driving herself crazy trying to remember a particular song that she used to play to my son a couple of years ago. There are almost no clues to go on and it feels a little futile, but perhaps worth a try...

  • Relatively modern - post 2000
  • An acoustic song
  • By a male artist - someone who's more known for a different type of music - she says 'electronic music' - but this particular song is certainly acoustic
  • Song is featuring another male singer. Perhaps not a duet, but certainly two of them involved
  • The song is about friendship - old friends etc. May or may not mention friends / friendship in the title
  • This is almost certainly a red herring, but she has a feeling the artist's name may be 'Paul' something

If you think the above list is vague, just be glad you're not able to to hear the three notes of the melody that she's able to remember, and is humming repeatedly. Over... and over... and over....

Any suggestions that may save our sanity are welcome. Inevitably when she remembers the song the above clues will all turn out to be incorrect - it'll be a song from the 70s by a female solo singer or something. Apologies in advance for utterly wasting your time, but do please help if you can...

Thanks!

Old friends by simon and garfunkel?

Vaccineerror · 21/09/2022 23:14

Sorry - to add, she feels like it's not a particularly well known song, although the artist seems to be quite well known. She was playing it to my son on YouTube, and apparently it was a video of the song over a still image rather than a glossy video. So perhaps an album track.

If she can remember the tune to hum it, then just hum it into an app that does this kind of thing?

BluebellsareBlue · 21/09/2022 23:16

Old friends, old friend, sat on the park bench like bookends?? Simon and garfunkel?

Harrietf21 · 21/09/2022 23:16

The Disturbed cover of Sound of Silence? Starts 'hello darkness my old friend'.

AliTheMinx · 21/09/2022 23:17

Memories by Maroon 5?

bippityboppitydo · 21/09/2022 23:19

Days go by - dirty vegas? Acoustic version

Blanchedsocks · 21/09/2022 23:20

Paul wellar has done loads of acoustic stuff that’s truly beautiful and incredibly different from his days in The Jam and Style Council.

Dancinginthebasement91 · 21/09/2022 23:20

21 Pilots, Stressed Out?

Harrietf21 · 21/09/2022 23:21

I don't know if there's an acoustic version but See You Again by Wiz Khalifa? It's from Fast and Furious so she might be thinking of Paul Walker.

TheHappiestChristmasTree · 21/09/2022 23:22

Nelly & Tim McGraw - Over and Over
Wiz Khalifa & Charlie Puth - See you again

Although none of these were known for electronic music..

AgnesNaismith · 21/09/2022 23:23

What did the still image of the video look like?

ultraviolet4753 · 21/09/2022 23:24

@Vaccineerror If she was playing it on You tube as you say in a further post, you can see all your past viewed videos in your account history.

Sometimes if I need to find something I can scroll back quite far and find what in was looking for.

If you're in the app, click library, then see history. There's a search bar at the top. I searched "music" and it came up with music videos, so hopefully will find it for you!

Thank you for suggestions so far. It's certainly not Simon & Garfunkel - artist much less known (at least to her) than that. No joy so far.

As for the app - if you could hear her humming these three notes, and see her trying to hum them into her phone, you'd know this was never going to work. Trying very hard not to laugh at her attempts.

Thank you for this - she isn't signed in to Google on her devices and unfortunately it has no memory of her as a result.

Has she tried checking her YouTube history? Two years ago isn't long.

What did the still image of the video look like?

Unfortunately she has no idea. There's really not much to go on here is there.

Ah, cross post. Can she remember any phrases at all?

bippityboppitydo · 21/09/2022 23:28

Count on me - Bruno Mars?

HaveringWavering · 21/09/2022 23:29

Has she asked your son?

Ah, cross post. Can she remember any phrases at all?

Not yet - although she's convinced it's 'in there somewhere'. She currently sitting in a dark room trying to force the memory to come.

Apologies for dragging you in to this madness. Really I'd quite like to go to bed and forget this even happened.

Has she asked your son?

He's only two. She wants to remember the song because apparently he would do a strange jig / dance when she played it to him, and she wants to see if it still works. Or if it works on our second child.
