Impossible task: help identifying a song with almost no clues

Hello,

My wife is driving herself crazy trying to remember a particular song that she used to play to my son a couple of years ago. There are almost no clues to go on and it feels a little futile, but perhaps worth a try...

  • Relatively modern - post 2000
  • An acoustic song
  • By a male artist - someone who's more known for a different type of music - she says 'electronic music' - but this particular song is certainly acoustic
  • Song is featuring another male singer. Perhaps not a duet, but certainly two of them involved
  • The song is about friendship - old friends etc. May or may not mention friends / friendship in the title
  • This is almost certainly a red herring, but she has a feeling the artist's name may be 'Paul' something

If you think the above list is vague, just be glad you're not able to to hear the three notes of the melody that she's able to remember, and is humming repeatedly. Over... and over... and over....

Any suggestions that may save our sanity are welcome. Inevitably when she remembers the song the above clues will all turn out to be incorrect - it'll be a song from the 70s by a female solo singer or something. Apologies in advance for utterly wasting your time, but do please help if you can...

Thanks!

We're going to be friends by The White Stripes?

It's not that, but that song is quite lovely. Thank you.

One more try - Real Friends - From the outside?

Vaccineerror · 21/09/2022 23:35

Thank you to everyone that I haven't mentioned individually. I suspect we may be giving up for the evening here, but if inspiration strikes in the night I will update the thread accordingly.

Thank you for indulging me/us.

You need to post on /tipofmytongue on Reddit they are really good at this stuff!

Radiodread · 21/09/2022 23:36

Is it "Dear Friends" by Elbow?

Lovetogarden2022 · 21/09/2022 23:36

Aviccii did "wake me up when it's all over" as an acoustic - it could be that? (That was my first thought when you said the artist usually does more dance music!)

Upload a clip of her humming what she remembers, then post the link here.

I thought of the Lazy Song by Bruno Mars

Tigofigo · 21/09/2022 23:54

Jason Mraz - Lucky
Actually a man and woman singing but talks about being best friends

Also not really associated with electronic music...

JustJoinedRightNow · 21/09/2022 23:55

One call away?

BadNomad · 22/09/2022 00:03

Electronic music makes me think maybe a Calvin Harris acoustic. There is one called "By Your Side" ft Tom Grennan, which might fit, but it's only from 2021 so maybe too recent to be it.

What about graduation (friends forever)
Lyrics- As we go on, we remember
All the times we had together
And as our lives change, come whatever
We will still be friends forever

Mountainhike · 22/09/2022 00:22

What about the Song from the movie toy story. You’ve got a friend in me.

CallMeLinda · 22/09/2022 00:30

Not two male singers, and earlier than 2000 ('9os), but Everything But The Girl (Old friends)?:

TheOriginalEmu · 22/09/2022 00:33

For some reason it’s making me think of this:

Shame, by Robbie Williams & Gary?

JaneorEleven · 22/09/2022 00:40

Could it be something by Jack Johnson. He does some acoustic guitar, and he wrote the music for the Curious George film, probably 2005ish. One of the songs is called We're Going to be Friends. I LOVE Jack Johnson, and my kids have all enjoyed the CG soundtrack! My kids would have definitely done a jig.

Even if I’m wrong, go listen!

mawbroon · 22/09/2022 00:41

Castle on the Hill. Ed Sheeran ?

JestersTear · 22/09/2022 01:03

This is probably way off, but "Old Friend" by Colin Paul? I just did a search and it's an Elvis song so doesn't really fit the remit, but I thought I'd mention it.

Jobsagoodun1 · 22/09/2022 01:14

It’s not Chase and Status featuring Plan B is it?

Boreded · 22/09/2022 01:19

We need a key word or something…anything really. Then we can track it down
