To let 13 year old dress like a drug dealer??

DS is 13 and suddenly has taken an interest in ‘fashion’ which mostly seems to be dressing in all black sports logos and puffa
jackets. Nike trainers, puma joggers, north face hoody - you get the idea.

oh, and calling us ‘fam’ every frigging minute,
innit bruv.

given that he’s a white, MC kid, in a MC area at a MC school ( state but uniform with tie/blazer/shirt etc) with all that comes with that, I think it’s annoying/amusing and that he’ll grow out of this fake ‘street’ phase.

DH on the other hand thinks that he’s dressing. like a drug dealer and we should go buy him some Boden or something.

AIBU to just let 13 year old to dress how he likes??

Look, I own lots of sports gear, lots of it back but I don’t wear black trainers, socks, joggers, top, hoody and puffs jacket and run round calling everyone mandem and fam.
there is a difference… I’m not accusing middle aged women of being drug dealers cos they like a bit of Nike!

Nothing to add really but this thread made me laugh. My almost 10 year old Nephew, pupil at a very 'naice' blazer, knee socks & cap private prep school and about as middle class as it gets is full of the 'fam' and 'bruv' and the sportswear uniform already.

God only knows by the time he gets to 14.

Thoughts and prayers OP Grin

Tbf, when I was a teen and I’m late 30s now, lots of teens, myself included, wore sports brands too. Adidas poppers anyone… had hoop earrings and a sovereign ring too 😳 All the lads thought they were Ali G or Eminem.
This fact disgusts my DW who was an indie kid, I grew out of it.

Adidas poppers & Kappa slappa jackets.

The teen uniform of the late 90s.

Herbalteahippie · 21/09/2022 22:51

None of my dealers wear that stuff. He’ll be fine.

YANBU. Men wearing suits have caused far more social problems and committed more crimes than those in puffa jackets.

I wonder if Theresa May was wearing a puffa jacket when she was hiking in Snowdonia and decided to call an election.

Textboxmm · 21/09/2022 23:02

Theresa May? Wasn’t she the hoodlum who spent her youth tearing through other people’s wheat fields? #blud # allow #mandem

after reading all this I foresee a weird hush-puppies esque revival happening to bloody Boden n shit.

LetMeSpeak · 21/09/2022 23:05

Where I was from most teens dressed like that. I was from a large council estate. I wouldn’t exactly judge anyone if I saw them wearing those clothes as they are just so common.

Sickoffamilydrama · 21/09/2022 23:05

OMG are you sure he's not a time Traveller as sounds like some of my boyfriends from 20+ years ago? Lynx Africa still occasionally makes my stomach flip 🤣

I'm sure DSis & I had a competition going in our teens who could date the worst boy drug dealers, joy riders I have no idea why!

Luckily my 15 yr old DD is a gaming geek although there's still time and her siblings may yet rebel.

HintofVintagePink · 21/09/2022 23:08

This too will pass.

My first boyfriend considered himself a white rapper and perpetuated that image for many years.

He’s now married to a Christian lady, runs a pub and has two children and a dog.

’What u know bout road g, truss u getting loud simmer down u aint on

Translated to: ‘Don’t be a meany Mum. I like my chain’

Or something like that.

’What u know bout road g, truss u getting loud simmer down u aint on ’

Is this something to do with the new PM’s transport policy being a bit muddled?

Textboxmm · 21/09/2022 23:10

Thanks oh wise women ( and blokes) of MN… this has made me laugh and realise that we do indeed need to get photographs of the teen years that can be rolled out on landmark adult birthdays…

Don't worry, teenagerhood will pass:

‘What? You mean you aren’t gassed by his fresh new garms? They’re well peng, blud!

You bare vexing, be chill, innit.

Be safe, fam.’

son, is that you??

Brap!

My own son was cured of this when one his friends commented on an Insta photo of me my son had posted:

‘Your mum is mad peng ting, bruv’

(I had to look it up on urban dictionary)

Dreikanter · 21/09/2022 23:22

The drug dealer hanging about on holiday that thought my gym mad “my body is a temple” DS might be interested in his wares looked like someone that would be good at fixing computers or explaining the Dewey Decimal system.

Textboxmm · 21/09/2022 23:30

i’m I insulting drug dealers by not acknowledging that lots of them are middle class and wear chinos or jeans??😅

Is this for real OP? You’re using your affected street talk in other threads now too. Some kind of meta joke maybe, but I find it quite patronising.

XelaM · 22/09/2022 00:13

My nearly 13-year-old daughter has been privately educated since she was 4 and her main hobby is equestrian show jumping, but she speaks and looks more thuggish than some gang members from London estates. I can tolerate the look, but the "fam, bruv, calm, pressed" drive me insane!! She also keeps saying "MUMs" when talking to her friends (whatever the f that means because apparently it does not actually mean mother). I keep telling her that I've wasted a fortune on private education and she sounds worse than her cousins who are actually in rough state schools but speak much nicer than her!

twoandcooplease · 21/09/2022 22:27

🤣🤣

Drug dealers come in all ages, shapes and sizes- and classes.
It is crazy to assume they are all young and working class.
However- It’s not really a joke or funny as some think it is.
All funny til someone dies.

Cw112 · 22/09/2022 00:31

The judgement is strong with this one. What on earth makes you think that's what drug dealers wear?! You must be terrified every time you encounter a teenager these days.

FlippityBeeBop · 22/09/2022 00:36

It's a stage that my 16 yo has missed and for years now he has said no to certain brands as only 'wannabe road men' and now boys with perms wear them and that's not his scene.

Although the lads who are involved in county lines around here wear this style so do the majority of other lads. We have a big problem with county lines where I live, unfortunately; we have men coming down from London and grooming local lads.

I remember DD bringing home a lad in an enormous puffa jacket when she was about 15. He looked like a bouncy castle! Grin

This just reminded me of these from a few years back!
