To let 13 year old dress like a drug dealer??

DS is 13 and suddenly has taken an interest in ‘fashion’ which mostly seems to be dressing in all black sports logos and puffa
jackets. Nike trainers, puma joggers, north face hoody - you get the idea.

oh, and calling us ‘fam’ every frigging minute,
innit bruv.

given that he’s a white, MC kid, in a MC area at a MC school ( state but uniform with tie/blazer/shirt etc) with all that comes with that, I think it’s annoying/amusing and that he’ll grow out of this fake ‘street’ phase.

DH on the other hand thinks that he’s dressing. like a drug dealer and we should go buy him some Boden or something.

AIBU to just let 13 year old to dress how he likes??

‘You refer to your partner as DH at work? How odd!’
well, I know everyone thinks only the disabled lesbians of colour get the top jobs these days, bring your whole self to work etc but unfortunately the reality is completely different, and I do sometimes expend a lot of time and energy disguising the fact I have a wife and kids to clients in certain parts of the world.

I hear you. Shit isn't it.

im a 38 year old mother so what’s this crap about drug dealer look. ?

I think being a street pharmacist is actually a really 'inclusive' industry ? Some uppers might go down a bomb at the NCT meetings ?

Part time flexible working

KirstenBlest · 21/09/2022 22:21

Get a similar outfit for yourself and learn the lingo.

vodkaredbullgirl · 21/09/2022 22:23

I'm a qualified drug deal, mind you I do work in a care home.

BirmaBrite · 21/09/2022 22:23

Classic North Yorkshire roadman moment - stopped to ask a group of young men directions, one had obviously broken the strap on his useful manbag and being a local local had utilised that ever present standby of baler twine.
So big ruddy faced baler twine fixed roadman bag boy, looks me up and down and sucks his teeth at me ! Sucked his bloody teeth at me, in the Dales !

I am not sure hysterical laughter was quite the response he was expecting !

I hear it pays well…

I’ll swap you op. My son has a serious obsession with ‘rare’ Jordan ones. They look great, but they hurt my wallet and bring my husband close to tears. Puma joggers sound amazing.

Has he got the curly perm and fade hair cut?

Is that the 'meet you in McDonald's' haircut?

SunshineLoving · 21/09/2022 22:25

I would leave him to it. We all have our own style. That's the style he wants. I'm sure he'll end up changing/refining it before long anyway.

Textboxmm · 21/09/2022 22:27

‘Has he got the curly perm and fade hair cut?’

not yet, he has long hair. Is that next?? To be honest it could do with a chop but he won’t let anyone near it…

😂😂😂you get me blud ..I’m joking ..I think some of us have been there as a teen I defiantly was like that growing up but I didn’t grew out of it . I’m 37 and it’s defiantly not a new thing . Let him wear what he wants . I love Boden for my 6 year old ds but I can’t see a teen wearing it .. just gonna get told to allow it 😂

This is the funniest thread I've read on mnet for ages!

Genuinely laughing out loud at some of the comments.

And the middle aged lady wearing sketchers thinking she was dressing like a drug dealer.

Best thread for months!

Thanks OP.

🤣🤣

I had the misfortune of being one bus during end of school time and loads of teenagers got on and all talking ghetto slang etc. I think id disown my child of they ever spoke that way its not cool.

Agonymama · 21/09/2022 22:29

Someone I know had a 15 year old son selling pills and they lived in a 1.5m pound house. As long as it’s just the clothes and not any questionable behaviour.

Also I’m over 30 and wouldn’t shop at Boden 😂😂😂

Chocolatesandroses · 21/09/2022 22:29

I mean I did grow out of it ! Ffs 🤦‍♀️

ManateeFair · 21/09/2022 22:31

Your DH is a twat and a snob for thinking sportswear and logos equal ‘drug dealer’. Let your kid wear what he likes. He doesn’t have to like the same styles that his bloody dad does; he’s 13.

Tallisker · 21/09/2022 22:31

What the buggery bollocks is a roadman?

I'm glad I no longer have children 😄

twoandcooplease · 21/09/2022 22:31

I actually really love the smell of lynx africa ...
If there was space left id have posted that on the secrets confession thread

Textboxmm · 21/09/2022 22:34

‘What the buggery bollocks is a roadman?’

on our estate we called them ‘hoods’ - teenage boys selling gear, know everyone, skipping school, petty vandals, getting in trouble with low level violence and anti social behaviour…

Little shits basically!

you’d cross the road to avoid them and hold your handbag a little tighter….

Tbf, when I was a teen and I’m late 30s now, lots of teens, myself included, wore sports brands too. Adidas poppers anyone… had hoop earrings and a sovereign ring too 😳 All the lads thought they were Ali G or Eminem.
This fact disgusts my DW who was an indie kid, I grew out of it.

LakieLady · 21/09/2022 22:42

LizzieVereker · 21/09/2022 21:37

I think some of your kids have made a little film:

Also, it’s all about the Crocs now, not the trainers of sliders, man.

Please don't tell me Crocs are cool! I might have to stop wearing mine.

Someone will be telling me my Sea Salt raincoat's all the rage next.

Chocolatesandroses · 21/09/2022 22:42

@DontTouchThat i remember that as well . And the kappa tracksuits as well . The clown necklaces and the bloody sovereign rings and don’t get me started on the reebok classics 😂

jayho · 21/09/2022 22:43

My DS wore this uniform for about 12-18 months then grew out of it and became more interested in more diverse fashion.

It helps them fit in when they're going through a tricky phase of puberty. They all look the same, they understand their tribe. It doesn't at all mean that they'll follow the path of the older people who dress similarly. Plus, it's fairly cheap 😁No dis to other parents who find it unaffordable.

My now 17 yo recycles everything on depop, he knows I will onl provide essentials and not his fashion 'whish list'. It's been a real lesson for him in terms of responsibility.

There's another cohort behind him who want the addidas tract pants, north face tee shirts and sweatshirts and puffas. get him to sell on.

And he won't become a drug dealer unless you seriously take your eye off the ball and he gets caught up in county lines.
