To let 13 year old dress like a drug dealer??

DS is 13 and suddenly has taken an interest in ‘fashion’ which mostly seems to be dressing in all black sports logos and puffa
jackets. Nike trainers, puma joggers, north face hoody - you get the idea.

oh, and calling us ‘fam’ every frigging minute,
innit bruv.

given that he’s a white, MC kid, in a MC area at a MC school ( state but uniform with tie/blazer/shirt etc) with all that comes with that, I think it’s annoying/amusing and that he’ll grow out of this fake ‘street’ phase.

DH on the other hand thinks that he’s dressing. like a drug dealer and we should go buy him some Boden or something.

AIBU to just let 13 year old to dress how he likes??

On his North Face jacket….

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 21/09/2022 21:43

Urgh the lynx. Not even 2 weeks into secondary school and the smell of lynx is already taking over the house again

EntertainingandFactual · 21/09/2022 21:43

‘Little road man’
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Beepbeepenergy · 21/09/2022 21:43

Today I had on

black sketcher trainers (too comfy)
black nike socks
black Adidas leggings
black puma hoody
im a 38 year old mother so what’s this crap about drug dealer look. ? You might aswel be racist

Bumpsadaisie · 21/09/2022 21:44

What lad of 13 would wear Boden?!

My son has been refusing it since the age of 9, very sad for me as I'd love him to dress like that.

Alas it's Nike joggers and Under Armour hoodies. 🤦‍♀️

Yup, the day my 14yo DS came out of his room in his outfit which included a silver chain I wet myself laughing. He looks like a member of ‘Blazin’ Squad’ but he’s always had a tendency to go for the ‘thrown up on’ look. In the night garden, Spider-Man, Nike, North Face.

Also, heavy on the Lynx. 🤣

DD was informing me last night how awful Lynx is like it was a new craze. I'm just flabbergasted boys are still using it, 30 years on from my teenage years !!

‘Is he a drug dealer?’
christ, if only he were that useful.

😁😁

Puffalicious · 21/09/2022 21:45

Lizzie it IS all about the Crocs- DS1 has a bright yellow pair (duck like)- and the Birkenstocks with white socks.😄

BirmaBrite · 21/09/2022 21:46

I think being a street pharmacist is actually a really 'inclusive' industry ? Some uppers might go down a bomb at the NCT meetings ?

Bumpsadaisie · 21/09/2022 21:46

Oh lord. The Lynx.

My son gave up on it in the holidays and I kind of hope this is permanent. He's only 10 and does not need it.

stillherenow · 21/09/2022 21:25

I'm very proud my dd dresses exactly like I did in the 90s!

Teenagers are funny

Mine does too!

No self respecting charva would be seen dead in sketchers so you aren't included in this don't worry.

Eeksteek · 21/09/2022 21:49

Count yourself lucky. My nephew both dresses and talks like that. He isn’t white, and has tried to bleach his awful (and very dark) mullet, but it has gone brownish ginger. He looks ridiculous, and is as happy as a dog with two tails. There is talk of blue or eve pink hair dye. I am taking many, many photos. (He is almost unembarrassable and is a really nice lad)

BirmaBrite · 21/09/2022 21:49

If they legalise drugs would the dealers actually wear a uniform ? with a badge, like working for a fastfood outlet ?

Textboxmm · 21/09/2022 21:49

‘im a 38 year old mother so what’s this crap about drug dealer look. ?’

oh wise up.Allow fam! I’m not accusing you of wanting to be a road man. You’re not slicing around my house with tour puffs jacket in, hood up, calling me ‘peak’…

YANBU, let him get on with it.

Do the kids still do that walk that's supposed to make it look like you've been shot in the leg😂? Always found it hilarious to see lads limp-swaggering around leafy suburbs ...

My mate had a little brother who was like that, although actually he was a really lovely lad and settled down quite young with a lovely wife and kids who he's still with, so goes to show the whole shtick doesn't actually mean you live the life of a gangsta!

Yes! He said a couple of years ago ‘I’m not sure if you’ve heard of this really cool deodorant…’

I can’t decide which I prefer a him and his Lynx and labels, or his brother who is 12 who I have to force to shower, and would wear the same pants and onesie 24/7 if allowed! 🤣🤣🤣

FlissyPaps · 21/09/2022 21:50

I know a drug dealer who dresses in normal jeans and t shirts.

Let your child dress how he likes.

RedAmber · 21/09/2022 21:51

This is the funniest thread I've read on mnet for ages!

Genuinely laughing out loud at some of the comments.

And the middle aged lady wearing sketchers thinking she was dressing like a drug dealer.

Best thread for months!

Thanks OP.

The funny thing is the actual "street" kids don't dress like this anymore. Our PRU kids moved on about 2 years ago, they wouldn't be seen dead dressed like the middle classes who think they're copying them 😆

Out of curiosity, what do they wear now?

bellsbuss · 21/09/2022 21:52

When my children start talking street I use it straight back to them and as I actually grew up in what they would think was a ghetto I can speak it a lot better than they can. They seem to use it a lot less now.

EmilyEmmabob · 21/09/2022 21:53

SlashBeef · 21/09/2022 21:14

Ah I have this to look forward to don't I? My nearly ten year old has started calling me bro 🙄

Same. Oh dear.

Textboxmm · 21/09/2022 21:54

DS had a friend round the other day, and the stench of Lynx Africa was overwhelming! Lovely kid, but good grief the windows and doors were open for a while …

I work in substance misuse. Your son is not dressing like a drug dealer, more a roadman. Look it up on urban dictionary.
Also a state secondary school with blazer and tie isn't middle class, that's most schools now 🙄

Or something like that.
