I could just cry....music for registry office has to be on CD

DP and are are getting married in 10 days. Only us and 2 witnesses, not told anyone else. The registry office have just informed us that the music needs to be on a cd. We have the three songs but on our phone. Neither of us have a CD rewriter and even if we did we can't seem to purchase the audio file of the songs anywhere. We have posted on local Facebook groups etc to ask if anyone can do it but with no luck and now we are desperate. Does anyone know where e can get the following songs (random I know, but all mean one thing to us) put onto a CD?
Golden brown, The stranglers
Royals, Lordes
Shotgun, George Ezra

On top of the fact that the rail strike means one of the only 2 witnesses may not be able to make it, this has really pushed me over the edge today.

Try someone like this?

Moveoverdarlin · 21/09/2022 20:05

The song shotgun at a wedding might raise a few eyebrows!!

Carrotzen · 21/09/2022 20:05

We got married in Kent this year. Wasn't a registry office but they told us they needed the CD by x date, we just said we wouldn't have it by then. Then we got to the venue only for them to ask if it was on our phones ffs!

Don't order all the CDs. Order an external CD drive for your laptop, they are about £13 on Amazon Or £30 from argos if you need to burn it tomorrow. The song on CD can be uploaded and then reburnt onto a fresh Cd. It's really easy

The other 2 I would just go on YouTube to MP3, if you've paid on itunes then you be paid for the song so I wouldn't count it as pirating

This honestly takes about 5 minutes. It's not a big drama. If you order an external CD drive now then you will be able to do it before Friday

Carrotzen · 21/09/2022 20:06

You also should be able to download apple music songs as MP3s is you've paid as well. You own the songs.

FlimFlam2 · 21/09/2022 20:08

😱 I always thought it was about a lady. Heroin did not occur to me at all, but wiki confirms that you are correct.

SmallPrawnEnergy · 21/09/2022 20:12

OP isn’t asking you to be a ballbag about her song choices.

venusandmars · 21/09/2022 20:13

I'm involved in weddings and to be honest music on phones causes one of the biggest issues - getting a stable bluetooth connection that doesn't drop out before the final song; fingerprint passcodes on the owner's phone (usually the bride or groom who doesn't want to be interrupted for their fingerprint mid ceremony); relying on the phone owner to have put the music in a separate playlist, and in the correct order. Or the files are streamed not downloaded meaning the phone needs a connection (and runs the risk of being interrupted by phone calls / messages etc)

Relying on one of your witnesses to manage it is often one of the worst options - they don't know the correct moments to start the music (because they're participating in the ceremony not part of the organising team) or they forget to fade it out and the music cuts off suddenly.

None of it is end of the world stuff, but if you've spent a while choosing the right music you'd want it to be played properly.

ItsJustLittleOlMe · 21/09/2022 20:15

Can you go into your local library and use a computer there?

cookiecreammmpie · 21/09/2022 20:17

Sorry if I've missed this but have you asked if they have those songs themselves? We wanted a particular song for ours, bought the CD and turned they already had it even though it wasn't on the list. And they also told us we wouldn't be allowed to play our own CDs anyway, even though the booklet said we could.

Meanderingpuppy · 21/09/2022 20:23

Op could you use a service like this to burn it for you (if you don't want to buy the necessary drive to do it at home)? If you do choose to do it this way I would message the seller first and ask them to prioritise it for fast delivery (maybe offer to pay a bit more if you need to) explaining it is for your wedding (it should get there in time anyway, but obviously you want it as soon a possible )

Bear65 · 21/09/2022 20:25

Have you tried googling "CD burning service near me"...there are quite a few organisations offering this, or failing that bring a blank CD to your local library and do it there

PaperwhiteTheGhost · 21/09/2022 20:29

WhoWasThatMaskedWoman · 21/09/2022 19:41

The reason they won't let you play it on your phone is probably because they need to vet the choices for suitability - apparently a surprising number of people try to get away with illegal song choices like Hallelujah, God Only Knows, Angels etc. If you're streaming it directly from your phone they might need to call 999 on you Grin.

Bit of a derail but... there are illegal wedding songs!?

Sallyh87 · 21/09/2022 20:31

@RetreatRetreatRetreat your local library will likely have computers with CD drives. Email the MP3 to yourself and do it in the library.

CactusBlossom · 21/09/2022 20:32

Here you are - CD collection
Has all the songs

I could just cry....music for registry office has to be on CD
cookiecreammmpie · 21/09/2022 20:32

You're not allowed religious references in a civil wedding.

BlueBell50 · 21/09/2022 20:35

illegal wedding songs - civil weddings cannot legally have any religious music so they have to be checked for this.

OP hope you get sorted

ScurryfungeMaster · 21/09/2022 20:36

I don't have a CD burner or I'd happily do it for. However you can buy CD burners for cheap from Amazon, eBay and even Argos. Congratulations on your wedding :) we had a wedding with just us and 2 witnesses and it was a wonderful day x

Jjones8 · 21/09/2022 20:36

Seriously. No one uses CDs anymore. Phone and portable speaker of your own?

oakleaffy · 21/09/2022 20:40

RetreatRetreatRetreat · 21/09/2022 19:26

They want them all on one CD. You literally couldn't make it up!

Golden Brown is a wonderful song.
Hope you have a lovely day and a very happy life together.
💕

freckletwin · 21/09/2022 20:46

Op- my brother is the sound engineer for the stranglers. Please can you let me know if you are not sorted and I'm sure he could help with the cd.
