Ok, so this will probably get called a stealth boast, and maybe it is a bit, but I am so delighted that I have to tell someone!

It has been a shitty week. Expensive and seemingly never-ending house maintenance problems, work stress, dd's exam stress, worries and frustrations about an elderly relative etc.

I stayed in the office late this evening to get some work done. DH is overseas at the moment so it is just me and 17yo dd at home. I knew I would be coming home to an empty house because dd had a party to go to. All fine.

I just got home and she has tidied the whole house from top to bottom. Shock Hoovered upstairs and down, wiped surfaces... she even made my bed! And there are even fresh flowers!

So lovely to come home to a tidy house!Smile

Oh gosh...all these lovely comments!

I wish I had something to share that would be worthy of people taking notesGrin but I am really a very average parent. She has always been very thoughtful since she was a very little girl... I'd love to claim credit and say it was my parenting but actually it's just luck!

I discovered after posting yesterday that she had even emptied all the bins! She got a big hug and a massive thank you. Smile

I have been a bit overwhelmed tbh by the kindness of all the comments on this thread. I hope that each and every one of you will be equally surprised and delighted by something that your dcs do for you at some point.

I wish there was a 'like' button for posts (was going to write 'love button' but that's something else entirely 😂). How lovely op ❤️

AloysiusBear · 17/09/2022 20:10

God I'd be bloody boasting too.

Sounds like you have a lovely DD, not many 17 year olds are thoughtful enough to do that. One to be proud of for sure.

Insanelysilver · 17/09/2022 20:16

That’s wonderful! What a lovely girl you have. X

steppemum · 17/09/2022 20:28

I think 17 is a key age. They are just beginning to understand the adult view point, and suddenly after all the teenage years you get glimpses of the adult, and moments when you realise that they did take in all that stuff you've been saying for years.
Ds is 19 now, and I remember the joy when he started to show moments like this, I realised that we had done it, he had got there and was OK, more than that he was a nice guy, and I breathed a sigh if relief!

Missingpop · 17/09/2022 20:32

And they say kids today are little shits!! What a lovely young lady you have there obviously kind; caring & knows when mum needs a bit of TLC xx we are lucky to have daughters like this x be sure to give her a big cuddle & tell her you love her xx

funrunning · 17/09/2022 20:32

Gorgeous girl!

ADarknessOfDragons · 17/09/2022 20:56

I haven't read the whole thread but OH MY GOODNESS I'd be bowled over thrilled at that level of effort and thoughtfulness. Absolutely heart-warming. What a lovely daughter you have 💛 ❤️

Can't get my 12 year old DD to do anything- and I mean anything- pretty much right now... the thought of her being able to motivate and organise herself to clean the house seems impossible right now (she is autistic and most likely ADHD should the waiting list ever get any shorter we'd find out) but even so. The demand avoidance and behaviours are very difficult.

Got a chance one of my DTs might do that in time- he's 10 now and can be so lovely. But there's puberty and all sorts to get through.

Oh, you must be lovely Mum for her to have done that. Hip, hip, hurrah.

This.

What a credit she is to both herself and you.

Enjoy.

Moll2020 · 17/09/2022 21:10

I came home to that a few years ago after a night away, house was so clean it was gorgeous, then I went out to the bottle recycling, it was so full I was impressed, she’d had a party, but no mess and a tidy house so win win!!

Quails2 · 17/09/2022 21:59

I echo the How Wonderful notes. She sounds very sweet and loves her mom.

Ikeabag · 17/09/2022 22:03

Oh god, if my mum had seen this 20 years ago I'd have been held up as the opposite example. 😆 sounds awesome, and so does she.

Jennytreetop · 17/09/2022 22:34

Enjoy, what a lovely daughter you have, so thoughtful xx

iamjustwinginglife · 17/09/2022 22:53

Oh bless her!!!

Dweetfidilove · 18/09/2022 00:12

What a kind and thoughtful young lady you've raised 😊

Sunnysundays33 · 18/09/2022 00:45

Ah so lovely 😍 and the poster whining about it being a woman's work etc how ridiculous, when she moves out whenever that may be it will be her responsibility, why should she not do it now? She lives there after all...mad.

My little one is only 5 but if I'm ever feeling poorly she brings me a blanket, my favourite childhood toy and gets me a glass of water. Haha love it so thoughtful.

Well done mama for raising a kind girl. That's what I wish for my children, to be happy and kind xx

Anothernamechangeplease · 16/09/2022 19:35

Ha, I knew someone would say that. Grin

Nothing, I don't think. She has plenty of money thanks to her part time job, and she is so sensible that I generally let her do what she wants to do.

”What does she want?” - what a shitty comment. Trying to make your week even worse.
Ignore it, OP, and enjoy your DD’s thoughtfulness. X

T1Dmama · 18/09/2022 01:55

What a lovely daughter xx
praise her.

I nodded off the other day and woke up to a roast cooked by my 11 year old daughter… kids can be so precious x

Tina001 · 18/09/2022 02:27

I've scrolled through a multitude of posts and never commented, but this struck a chord. As a single mom, working full time its so overwhelming. This gives me hope x

Roxy69 · 18/09/2022 09:14

It seems you have done an excellent job of parenting. Be very proud. She sounds lovely and thoughtful. 💐

mamabear715 · 18/09/2022 09:25

Ah, bless her! How lovely.
I think you're downplaying your part in this, OP. You get out what you put in. Hugs to you both. :-)

Kamia · 18/09/2022 09:51

Tell us your secrets, sometimes I feel like I'm raising a racoon.

😂😂 me too!!

Barney60 · 18/09/2022 11:59

Sounds like a lovely helpful daughter, well done you on how you have raised her.

My daughter would do stuff too for me when she lived at home and was younger.

ElectedOnThursday · 18/09/2022 12:05

What a lovely thing to do. You have done a good job, mama.
