To be stunned but a bit delighted?

Ok, so this will probably get called a stealth boast, and maybe it is a bit, but I am so delighted that I have to tell someone!

It has been a shitty week. Expensive and seemingly never-ending house maintenance problems, work stress, dd's exam stress, worries and frustrations about an elderly relative etc.

I stayed in the office late this evening to get some work done. DH is overseas at the moment so it is just me and 17yo dd at home. I knew I would be coming home to an empty house because dd had a party to go to. All fine.

I just got home and she has tidied the whole house from top to bottom. Shock Hoovered upstairs and down, wiped surfaces... she even made my bed! And there are even fresh flowers!

So lovely to come home to a tidy house!Smile

Och this is lovely. She seems so thoughtful. Even down to the fresh flowers.

Amipreg1 · 16/09/2022 19:51

Your daughter sounds lovley and you have obviously done a brilliant job of bringing her up.
I hope you have a relaxing weekend! 🙂

TowerRavenSeven · 16/09/2022 19:54

Crikeyalmighty · 16/09/2022 19:57

NipplesSkywards · 16/09/2022 19:57

Aw .how lovely , send her my way

BusySittingDown · 16/09/2022 19:58

Wanna swap? My 15 year old still hasn't washed up, despite it being her job, despite me asking her/reminding her 2 hours ago, despite me treating us all to Dominos tonight.

I guess the answer is no? 😂

EdinaMonsoon · 16/09/2022 20:01

Can I adopt her?! 😆

My two are 18 & 22. Not perfect by any stretch but I agree OP that these little acts of kindness not only make you feel good in the moment but also make you realise you’ve raised a really wonderful human.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 16/09/2022 20:09

Great party, by the way. 🥳🥂🍹🍾🍷
Sorry about the mess we left, 🤮💩💥
Glad to hear that everything is shipshape now! 🚢👍👍

MrsMoastyToasty · 16/09/2022 20:22

That's lovely!

(If DS had done that I would have thought that he'd been replaced by a alien)

You shouldn't have ordered the dominoes until the washing up was done.

SewhereIam · 16/09/2022 20:34

I love this! Well done your DD! Xx

MyMourningIsSadderThanYours · 16/09/2022 20:35

What a sweetheart. Well done DD. 💝

poorpaws · 16/09/2022 20:39

What an amazing daughter you have. I hope you're going to the local shop for a box of chocolates for her 😁

Anothernamechangeplease · 16/09/2022 20:44

Lol @MrsMoastyToastyGrin

@poorpaws, nice idea to do something to say thank you. I want her to know how much I appreciated it as she wasn't here to see my reaction.

Georgeskitchen · 16/09/2022 20:52

That's lovely. Reminds me of when my 16 year old son who had never lifted a finger in cleaning, was on leave from army basic training. I went to work and when I came home the kitchen was gleaming. I have never in living memory seen it so clean. He informed me that he was bored so he had spent the morning gutting the kitchen. Even wiped the cupboards down!! I was astonished but very happy 😊
It only happened the once though.....

TigerDroveAgain · 16/09/2022 20:55

That's so lovely!

Perhaps you'd like to swap for my 20 yo DS?

<<sound of OP's feet rapidly vanishing >>

cunningartificer · 16/09/2022 21:02

That's adorable. How thoughtful! Reminds me of when my DD was little and I was having a hard time at work and she put a treat in my briefcase for work with a little wobbly note 😍

mackthepony · 16/09/2022 21:04

Awesome!

Enjoy 🍷🍷🎂

SleepingAgent · 16/09/2022 21:06

That's ace! What a great Friday treat!

icallitaday · 16/09/2022 21:08

This is lovely, you have raised a brilliant young lady. Enjoy the lovely clean house, the smell of your fresh flowers in peace knowing your mum goals ! Xx

Passmethecrisps · 16/09/2022 21:11

This is absolutely lovely. I remember at about the same age, having been pretty unkind to my mum up until that point, I took to making her packed lunches and hiding wee notes in them. Just a smiley face or a ‘hope you are having a nice day’. I think this is the age some start shaking off the more negative teen stuff and you see that beautiful, honest generosity of spirit that so many of them have.

enjoy you lovely clean house! You clearly deserve it
