Where is Nicholas Witchell?

I can’t be the only one wondering where the BBC’s royal correspondent has got to these days. He’s not been heard from since the day they announced the queens death. Not that I miss the man, but surely he has the easiest job at the beeb.

i saw him since then, awful man hopefully been sacked.

EVHead · 14/09/2022 16:09

Maybe he feels he can’t report on the new King, given that Charles once said “I can't bear that man. He's so awful. He really is."

Mrsjayy · 14/09/2022 16:10

He's been on Bbc1 loads of times since the Queens death although he wasn't there today, maybe his day off ?

DillonPanthersTexas · 14/09/2022 16:10

Got caught in a sombre 'service/nations grandmother/duty' feedback loop and had to have a lie down.

Mrsjayy · 14/09/2022 16:10

He is actually the worst so snooty and sneery !

Lol i loved that clip of Charles muttering under his breath about Nicholas Witchell...does anyone know why Charles hates him?

DogInATent · 14/09/2022 16:12

He's being prepared for the Wicker Corgi.
It's what she would have wanted.

UrsulaPandress · 14/09/2022 16:12

The Tower I imagine.

10HailMarys · 14/09/2022 16:13

Witchell was around for a few days after the announcement - definitely on Friday, Saturday and Sunday on the rolling news coverage. He may well be working on pre-recorded packages at the moment. Or just having a day off so the other royal correspondents (there are a few others at the Beeb) can cover things, given that Witchell probably had about five minutes sleep at his desk between Thursday morning and Sunday night.

Charles famously loathes Nicholas Witchell and was caught on mic saying that, so my guess is that Witchell was only staying on until the Queen died and will retire very soon. He's nearly 70 I think.

the80sweregreat · 14/09/2022 16:18

Who cares? His a nasty entitled man who looks down his nose at people.
Better off without him!

watcherintherye · 14/09/2022 16:25

He seems to be universally disliked - entitled, snooty, sneery. Why? Are there specific examples? I’ve only ever seen him reporting on the Royal Family, and he has seemed quite innocuous, if rather deferential, but I assume that’s because of his role.

Laiste · 14/09/2022 16:26

I'd be embarrassed to stay on as a Royal correspondent if i knew they hated me!

I mean i know there's not much love for the press from the royals full stop, but to be picked out personally .... but he's stuck it out for years. Skin of a rhino!

Reminds me of Uriah Heep.

x2boys · 14/09/2022 16:45

Hopefully they have locked him in a cupboard somewhere so he can't whitter on ,about the whole of the nation being devastated.

antelopevalley · 14/09/2022 17:04

He always seems innocuous and a bit too deferential. So why the hate?

AngelsWithSilverWings · 14/09/2022 17:16

I was wondering this too. I had to switch to ITV last Thursday because he was just so awful. So I was still watching ITV when the death was announced. Have been watching quite a bit of BBC coverage since and noticed he wasn't around. Had hoped he'd been retired! I can't think of anyone else who makes me switch the TV news off other than Boris.

escapingthecity · 14/09/2022 20:29

Presumably being rested ahead of the funeral on Monday?

dudsville · 14/09/2022 20:34

He made a vile comment on the day whilst on air with Huw. It doesn't bear repeating but I thought it was a nasty thing to say. I didn't know of him prior to this so it has summed him up for me.

Hi, Your Majesty

At last someone realised how important I am 😎

Parrotpretty · 14/09/2022 20:36

Wasn't the other royal correspondent Jennie Bond? I preferred her.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 14/09/2022 20:37

Can’t be doing with him.
