Center Parcs closing for funeral

Had the email to say Monday arrival delayed until Tuesday, can't get in until 4pm. 30% refund offered. From social media, it looks like people on a 7 night break are actually expected to leave at 10am on the Monday and not come back until Tuesday! People on a weekend break aren't being compensated for having to leave by 10am on the Monday.

AIBU to think wtf?!?!

I can understand Centerparcs wanting to close for the funeral (as other businesses are also doing) but agree it’s not great if guests are basically being asked to make their own accommodation arrangements from the Monday to Tuesday with no compensation. That seems very unfair - and might be illegal? I would definitely complain about this. Has anyone complained via social media, or contacted the CEO? That seems to work.

My DS and his GF are there for the weekend and just had the email saying to leave by 10am Monday…… which is obviously not as impactful as your situation OP. Although no refund of any sort offered.

Does centre parcs usually close like this on a bank holiday? If not, then this is truly ridiculous. And I say that with the utmost respect for the royal family.

Closing the restaurants/activities for a few hours would be a proportional response.

Completely closing down mid holiday is bonkers.

FFS they should not be asking people to leave for a day what are they supposed to do where are they supposed to go!!

Yes I could understand if they closed facilities etc but this seems an overkill response.

They've not thought this through properly at all. If people check in to their accommodation & stay there it's not being disrespectful. The restaurant, entertainment area and activities can close on Monday. Check in and check out should operate as normal otherwise people will not return. Centreparcs have shot themselves in the foot with this stupid policy.

And no they don't usually close for bank holidays, in fact they're open on Christmas day so expect people to work then!!

Don't you normally have to check out by 10am on Monday if you're there for the weekend? Or can you stay and use the site facilities so long as you're out of your accommodation?
Either way, it's blooming ridiculous. This country needs to get a grip on reality.

Centre Parcs have staff. Staff that are difficult to recruit and retain. This time they have prioritised their staff over their guests. They are also being respectful.

That is absolutely absurd.

I'm currently hacked right off because DD was due to be going on year 6 residential on Monday, and they've shut the centre on Monday, but still no word on whether they're going on Tuesday or what. I thought that was bad but the center parcs thing is absolutely next level.

I always thought that it WAS possible to stay and use the facilities after checking out at 10am. Many people do I believe.

‘Centre Parcs’ are actually people you know. ‘They’ are made up of staff.
‘They’ will be in mourning/watching the state funeral.

So get over it. They totally made the right call. Finding staff is harder than finding guests.

Centre Parcs have staff. Staff that are difficult to recruit and retain. This time they have prioritised their staff over their guests. They are also being respectful. they’re open on Christmas Day, so where’s the understanding for their staff then?

I realise some businesses are closing for the day, John Lewis/waitrose and a lot of others but that’s no different to those being closed on Christmas Day for instance, plus there’s a strong likelihood that business will be down anyway, but CP are clearly trying (and failing) to look like they’re so respectful.

This has the potential to backfire on them spectacularly.

Even if they were being disrespectful in some way, it's not really the job of a holiday camp to force people to respect a funeral.
