He's into environmental issues, wants a slimmed down monarchy, embraces multiculturalism and his speech was warm and heartfelt.
He shook hands with the crowds outside the palace with genuine emotion.
I am not sure how i feel about how he treated Diana but he should always have married Camilla.

It a shame the table was way too small for what needed to be done and even when it should have been obvious to those who organized the proceedings that he needed help, not one, but twice, that no one noticed quickly enough. Even at the end of it William had to screw the lid back on the ink bottle as no one else thought to themselves that’s an accident waiting to happen on an historical document that will be viewed hundreds of years from now.

Agree it was pretty poor considering

NanaNelly · 11/09/2022 07:50

J0y · 11/09/2022 07:40

Oh boy, he does have a "minion!! Move this!!" expectation

No. He didn’t. He was put in that situation by people who organized the event and hadn’t thought the practicalities through properly.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 11/09/2022 08:00

i expect the table was thought to be the perfect size, or perhaps was the only nice table that wasnt going to get in the way on their platform

QueefofSheena · 11/09/2022 08:06

Why are people conveniently forgetting his other mistresses? Google Dale Tryon if you think it was just Camilla vs Diana. Diana was 19 and did not get the marriage she was expecting. I don’t care for any of them, but please stop suggesting that he and Camilla were star-crossed lovers. It was all much more seedy and calculated than that.

It will be interesting to see if his version of a slimmed down monarchy costs any less. I somehow doubt it.

Notlosinganyweight · 11/09/2022 08:12

I'm not bothered. It's sad about the Queen, Charles seems OK, but everything good in this country has been falling to shit over the last 10 years and they can't really do anything to stop that as they have to remain neutral about everything, so I'm not sure what the point of them is?

It does feel like things have shifted since the Queen died, but hopefully it is for the better.

Limer · 11/09/2022 08:15

I like Charles, and Camilla. Looking forward to seeing them as King & Queen Consort.

elizaregina · 11/09/2022 08:16

I'm very impressed by his walk abouts so far. One can't imagine how busy he is but he's already done a few walkabouts!

To be honest, I don't blame Charles for the Diana marriage. I mean, it was a stupid idea that was cooked up by the QM and was an idea borne of her age - an arranged marriage with a virginal bride and seeking love and companionship elsewhere. The people who sold Diana out were those who promised her romantic love - I don't really think that Charles did ("whatever love means"), her family etc who encouraged her to go along with the idea were at fault far more than Charles. The idea that Charles would then fall in love with Diana and be her proper companion was never likely or expected - she was lovely, charismatic and empathetic, but a bit of a lightweight with absolutely no life experience. She didn't have any sense of self - how can someone cling to that. More successful matches, like the Queen and William's marriages (both allegedly not free of infidelity, but still very strong) have actually been delayed by the royal family to ensure that everyone is ready and sure. A much better basis for a match. People behave badly when cornered.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 11/09/2022 10:44

a lot was made of princess diana's low educaiton
4 olevels.
she obvously wasnt educated and indeed her family sold her - a mistake that has not been repeated

Novella4 · 11/09/2022 10:47

@NanaNelly
You are talking rubbish
'Put in that position'

Whether he was or wasn't put in that position he was rude and dismissive to the person he expected to lift everything

Why couldn't he politely ask ( or shock horror lift it his bloody self) . No his entitlement showed and it was shocking .
Look at Camilla's reaction - she knows

Whatever mumsnet royalist cabal think it's gone viral and already doing damage

CulturePigeon · 11/09/2022 10:51

I like him too.

He's a damaged man: not much parental contact in infancy, bullied at school, isolated at Cambridge and screwed up by his difficulties with romantic relationships (he wouldn't have been allowed to marry Camilla in the 70s...she was an 'experienced' woman!!).

He's not perfect but he tries to do his best and he has done good in the world with the Prince's Trust and his lobbying on environmental issues (ahead of this time). He has said he understands that he can't continue to do this, which some consider to be interfering.

Give him a chance - I think he'll be fine. The greeting of people on his arrival at Buck House confirms, I think, that he means to make the job more informal and scale down the Ruritatian stuff.

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 10/09/2022 22:59

I'm staggered that people are blaming him for the small desk and no where to sign!

It's extraordinary!

Again- do you really not get it or are you pretending not to?

It had nothing to do with the small desk - it was the way he treated another that assistant.

Look on Twitter if you haven't seen it

MarshaMelrose · 11/09/2022 10:56

Why are people conveniently forgetting his other mistresses? Google Dale Tryon if you think it was just Camilla vs Diana.

Charles and Kanga Tryon were over well before Diana came on the scene. She kept talking to the press about him and he wasn't impressed.

MarshaMelrose · 11/09/2022 10:58

That was the most important document he'll sign in his life and they gave him that poxy little table and cluttered it up so he couldn't do a proper signature which will be archived forever.
They were lucky he didn't chuck something at them. It was ridiculous.

Novella4 · 11/09/2022 11:03

Nothing to with the size of the table , people understand things not being set up properly .

It was his attitude , flapping his hand , baring his teeth , and from posts on Twitter / Reddit etc- it was the fact that he didn't EVEN TRY TO PICK UP. Lackey can do that

If that's how he treats people at such a public

MarshaMelrose · 11/09/2022 11:08

He flapped his hand once to indicate to clear the table that should already have been cleared. It was his accession document he was signing, not a laundry bill. But they couldn't even clear it the first time, he had to flap twice. Just can't get the staff these days. 🙄

Novella4 · 11/09/2022 11:14

Which video did you see?

If it's the BBC I've heard tbey edited bits . I don't know - I'm not watching it all.

Tthe video on Twitter is damning
And the hand flapping / standing there waiting for someone else to lift what was right in front of him is not the only incident
He gestured again, baring his teeth angrily .
And no he wasnt laughing , he had a face like a slapped arse

MrsLargeEmbodied · 11/09/2022 11:18

he is the king
i am sure most royals behave in this way

Novella4 · 11/09/2022 11:20

Oh well then !

Get on with the boot licking

I do agree that it's the least of the serious issues around Charles.

But it was revealing.

TokyoSushi · 11/09/2022 11:22

Yes me too, I think he's definitely somebody who has got better with age.

Afterfire · 11/09/2022 11:22

I watched the whole signing thing on live Tv and didn’t see anything particularly awful about it. It was literally 2 seconds of him flapping his hand and pulling a face. He looked sort of awkward and that was that! Really don’t know what all the fuss is about. People love to moan.

incognitodorrito · 11/09/2022 11:24

Me too !

So you've not actually seen the entire exchange? 😂

I'm not "boot licking". I'm ambivalent about the Royal Family so have no agenda. unlike others.

W0tnow · 11/09/2022 11:27

You have to remember this is a man who has had as far from an ordinary life as you can imagine. He has never had to do anything basic for himself since…god, maybe when he was at boarding school? The man is bordering on elderly now. He’s never bought toothpaste, ironed a shirt, put on a load of washing…the list is endless. His behaviour was perfectly understandable. It’s how most people would behave had they been waited on hand and foot for their entire life.

if the uk must have a king, he is all right I suppose. Thank goodness Andrew isn’t the heir!
