I thought they'd had this planned for years?

I think it will be the Saturday but I'm just guessing like everyone else.

Something tells me they haven't had the exact date planned.

Zippy1510 · 09/09/2022 19:04

Why wouldn’t it be the 19th? Everywhere has reported the timeframe now

IrishladyNE · 09/09/2022 19:04

Creativebee · 09/09/2022 18:32

😂 😂😂

Hehe! I’m patiently waiting if it’s Monday we get a day of mourning from work.

To think the queen gave a life time of service to a country full of heartless people.

Why is it heartless to be able to sort out childcare/shuffle stuff around?

MarshaMelrose · 09/09/2022 19:04

Woopzies · 09/09/2022 18:28

Why? Are you doing the grub?

😂😂😂😂😂

There’s no plans to close businesses or schools. The government has a briefing on the mourning on the website, uploaded this morning. It won’t be a bank holiday. Employers can decide whether to close for themselves. From memory, they’ve asked major sports events to move times to avoid a clash as much as possible, but that’s all.

The briefing is about the mourning period rather than the funeral .It doesn't mention whether or not the funeral will be a bank holiday. It says "further guidance on any potential considerations relating to the day of the State Funeral will be issued if needed."

For people who need to work on the day of the funeral and who also have children, that's quite an issue.

dudsville · 09/09/2022 19:04

There's so much talk of this having been planned to the nth degree. I'm surprised they aren't able to give this assurance.

EssentialGarage · 09/09/2022 19:05

Badger1970 · 09/09/2022 19:01

As a small business owner, I'm a bit concerned that it's going to be made a public holiday when we've already had an extra bank holiday this year.

Well according to a pp we are heartless, how worrying about customers, staff and keeping the business functioning in already difficult circumstances makes us heartless I don't know.

This is the guidance so far: The Demise of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II: National Mourning Guidance

Zott · 09/09/2022 19:07

@Woopzies 😂

LovedFedAndNoonesDead · 09/09/2022 19:03

There were also reports in the media overnight that it won’t be a Bank Holiday but will be a public holiday entitled a National Day of Mourning to enable as many to go as possible.

That would be worse, no-one would know what that actually meant, businesses would be expected to open and expected to close.

giveovernate · 09/09/2022 19:08

It's Monday

UnicornMumcraft · 09/09/2022 19:09

Our primary school emailed all parents today to say they plan to close the day of the funeral (assuming it’s a weekday). C of E school, not sure if that makes a difference.
The government guidance issued so far is for the period of mourning and there doesn’t seem to be anything official for the actual funeral day yet, though I expect lots of places will close, at least for the duration of the funeral.

MeanderingGently · 09/09/2022 19:11

I thought it was Monday. The mourning is 10 days, but they are starting that from today as she died so late yesterday. It's unlikely there will be a funeral on a Sunday which is a church day anyway.

I understood that there would be a 'day off' with schools possibly shutting, but it wouldn't be classed as an official bank holiday (not sure what the difference is).
But I don't think there has been an official statement, just what has been written by the press.

Surtsey · 09/09/2022 19:12

The most important head of state in the world has died, and they have to arrange the funeral plus security, flights and accommodation for all the hundreds of kings, queens, presidents and prime ministers who will flying here from all over the globe, and you want to know the date of the funeral right now because you need to make plans?

Strewth.

Pumperthepumper · 09/09/2022 19:12

So, are we getting a day off or not?

EssentialGarage · 09/09/2022 19:13

Are you always this obtuse?

Yes. Your kids are not less important than those people.

tobee · 09/09/2022 19:13

Interesting though that people say 10 days.

They might have planned it for years but they didn't know when she'd actually die. I bet they would have had to make adjustments if she'd died in lockdown or restricted rules.

miserablecat · 09/09/2022 19:15

Ive assumed for years we got an extra BH if the queen died. My biggest concern (which is not big at all!) is that my kids will be very cross with me if schools dont close because I confidently told them they would get a day off!

Yes, when something is a week to ten days away people will already have plans. Maybe important ones in their own lives. Like travel or maybe a funeral themselves, or completion on a house purchase etc, and would quite like to know if they are going ahead. Strewth indeed.

ajandjjmum · 09/09/2022 19:16

I have a lumpectomy booked for the Wednesday, with a hospital process on the Tuesday - if the funeral is on the Monday, it should be fine, if not it may alter things.

I think that's a pretty valid reason for wanting to know ASAP, to give me time to get my head around any change!

Do you not think they had plans for this? Every arrangement will have been made in advance and heads of state handily have embassies at which they can be safely housed - they hardly have to commandeer a travelodge!

Exactly!

miserablecat · 09/09/2022 19:18

Although obviously there is protocol plans for it all already in place but I can't imagine the security nightmare it must be to organise - with the RF, various presidents, heads of state, previous PMs etc all travelling there and being in the same place!
