School isn't going to close. Why is everyone getting in a tizzy?

Just keep your garage/restaurant or whatever open

Its on Monday the 19th. What the fuck does it matter though?

It matters a lot if you want to watch it/go to London etc and make arrangements accordingly

You do not know it's on that date as no date has yet been announced

It matters if you have stuff planned that will be disrupted, and if things like hospital operations will be postponed or if schools will be closed but parents still have to go to work. And finding out on Friday afternoon would have been a lot easier to get on with rearranging stuff, than having to wait for Monday and the next working day.

I need to give ten days notice to book a days holiday from work. Public service role so will be open. If funeral on a week day school will close. I'm sure lots of people are in the same boat.

I agree.

Given the whole thing has been planned for years down to the last second, saying whether it will be a public holidays and schools closed is important as anyone with young children will need to arrange time off.

It's not like they will be waiting for the funeral directors to arrange a time for the church/crematorium.

tickticksnooze · 09/09/2022 18:54

Why would medical treatment be postponed when businesses aren't even being asked to close?

Because we don't know yet. For everyone that says definitely not closed, someone else is saying bank holiday.

Plus no one is an island, if we stay open but our suppliers don't then what, if we know it gives time for information to be discussed and planned for.

I didn’t think it could be on a weekend.

Why? Diana's was on a Saturday

Georgyporky · 09/09/2022 18:56

I bet it won't be a month like the rest of us plebs.

Why would medical treatment be postponed when businesses aren't even being asked to close?

Because if schools close everyone has a childcare crisis?

Ilovemycatalot · 09/09/2022 18:57

Never thought people could be so vile and thoughtless. The threads on here are a real eye opener.

REP22 · 09/09/2022 18:58

It depends. There are certain physical functions (sorry) which have to be carried out; they may even need to do a post-mortem.

They will also need to allow for foreign heads of state and other dignitaries to make their way here, as well as the lying in state and other accepted solemnities.

It's not to be rushed through for the sake of our convenience. She only passed away yesterday.

I'm sure they are doing their best.

MadeWithCare · 09/09/2022 18:58

Schools will close if it's during the week and there'll be pressure on businesses to close too, even if it's not required. That's why I think it will be Saturday.

Ilovemycatalot · 09/09/2022 18:58

To think the queen gave a life time of service to a country full of heartless people.

wejammin · 09/09/2022 18:58

I hope they announce it soon. I know it's of no consequence to anyone else but my DS is supposed to sit the 11+ exam on Monday 19th, he's autistic and does not cope well with change. He's worked so hard for the exam and I am really worried changing the date will unsettle him to the extent he will refuse to sit it. The more notice we have the easier it will be to work through the change with him.

Manekinek0 · 09/09/2022 18:59

I agree OP. DC school has said that they are planning for it being on the Monday and that they will close. Luckily DH will be off and my DC are older but I have to work bank holiday or not. If this had happened 10 years ago we would be scrambling for childcare.

BuwchGochGota · 09/09/2022 18:59

YANBU.

DS2 is starting university, he's meant to be moving into halls on the Saturday. It's a 6hr round trip to take him. If it's going to change to the Friday or Monday I need to know so I can take time off work to take him then instead.

weebarra · 09/09/2022 19:00

I'll be slightly gutted if it is the 19th, simply because it's a holiday for us all in my neck of the woods anyway!

Badger1970 · 09/09/2022 19:01

As a small business owner, I'm a bit concerned that it's going to be made a public holiday when we've already had an extra bank holiday this year.

moneybeingwasted · 09/09/2022 19:02

Am hoping it’s not Monday 19th !Am flying to Mallorca that day and really hope to watch the funeral .

Sparklingbrook · 09/09/2022 19:02

I’d like to know so I can plan too. I don’t think it’s an unreasonable question.

Even that seems up for debate though.

Read an article in our local paper which seemed to suggest that schools wouldn't close.

I'm lucky mine are teenagers now so childcare isn't an issue, but I remember what it was like when trying to sort childcare out at short notice, especially if other parents are also doing the same at work.

I am fairly confident my employer will remain open so if my kids were younger I would be needing to sort childcare asap.

lissie123 · 09/09/2022 19:03

Well I was in a vintage clothes shop today ( south west) and a call came thru to the owner of the shop- desperate lady needed black dresses her children for the funeral. For the queens funeral. 😳

🙄 really?

She also guarded a vile sex offender! How would you feel about her if one of your daughters was "Prince" Andrews victim?

LovedFedAndNoonesDead · 09/09/2022 19:03

There were also reports in the media overnight that it won’t be a Bank Holiday but will be a public holiday entitled a National Day of Mourning to enable as many to go as possible.
