GoingOnce I can't understand how people can not grasp the enormity of what has to be arranged by the other 68million people that live in the UK.

It's amazing isn't it, especially on a site full of mothers!

Oh Christ 🤣

You don't think they've ever had a plan? Just gone oh shit what now?

if it’s on Monday there won’t be a bank holiday but that closures will be at companies’ discretion.

Which will be the worst outcome.

I’m due to start a new job on the 19th, for a financial institution, and when I queried whether or not this would impact my start date my new line manager said that in truth there’s no such thing as a bank holiday any more.

While holidays are declared a lot of companies, and especially the banks, still stay open anyway which is true…

giveovernate · 09/09/2022 19:32

@PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior what's being a mother got to do with it???

What an odd comment!

Toddlerteaplease · 09/09/2022 19:32

I had tickets to a concert that I was really looking forward too and had booked accommodation for. Which is non refundable. Concert is cancelled and if the funeral is Saturday, no point in going anywhere. I'm a bit gutted. I'm happy to show respect but in this day and age do we have to cancel everything. The Queen would have been the first to say that the world goes on.

Zippy1510 · 09/09/2022 19:32

I doubt they are phoning around trying to get someone to sort out the flowers or catering last minute. Everything has been in place for years. They have to know when it is already.

www.cbc.ca/news/world/queen-funeral-watch-king-charles-1.6576646

CBC news has posted a sequence of events. D is today, D+10 will be the funeral. that works out to a week Monday 19th.

Totally different scenario in Canada... no shut down of anything, business as usual.

No, I think they do have a plan, I just need the date so my business can make one

Why? Are you doing the grub?

Best answer!!

she died yesterday fgs!! Give them a bit of time! It’s not really going to affect any of us… ideally I want the day off to watch it though!!

Leftbutcameback · 09/09/2022 19:32

GoingOnce · 09/09/2022 19:25

I thought they'd had this planned for years?

I don’t think they came up with a date in advance!

Of course there is a plan - this is a good article where you can see the public details amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/mar/16/what-happens-when-queen-elizabeth-dies-london-bridge

Hence why Day10, Monday 19 s
Sept, is the planned date. But no plan survives first contact (as they say in the military) which is why they needed to move day zero, and why the actual date is still TBC.

Toddlerteaplease · 09/09/2022 19:33

I also think it will be Saturday.

GhostFromTheOtherSide · 09/09/2022 19:33

IMO schools could stay open and the kids could watch the funeral on the basis this is a historic moment, but then you’d get people on here complaining about that.

Penguinfeather781 · 09/09/2022 19:34

Yes there need to be enormous arrangements made and that takes time - but if the King says he wants the Queen’s funeral to be the Saturday or the Monday or whatever, then are we really expecting that Westminster Abbey or The Archbishop of Canterbury or the Royals won’t be available on that day? I can’t imagine there’s much diary coordinating going on, I’d have thought everyone important would be expected to clear their diaries. So just declare the day already so people can plan.

cabansunset · 09/09/2022 19:34

Nobody expect it to be arranged in 27 hours, just a day announced. Given that the entire funeral has already been planned and tweaked and revisited in theory over the years, I'm sure they know which day it'll be.

The banks close on a bank holiday. Lots of things close

Are you serious? On the assumption that you are, it's because the organisational role being discussed falls disproportionately to mothers.

Sparklingbrook · 09/09/2022 19:35

I don't understand all this 'give them time FGS' it will already be known. They just need to tell us.
Also, will it be round 2 for the Coronation whenever that is?

Easy if everyone is hidden behind a screen. Large noisy garage, cars being moved in and out all day, there will be a significant section that will expect us to close and a significant that expect us to stay open.

Plus bank holidays are still real in my world, parts departments close etc.

GhostFromTheOtherSide · 09/09/2022 19:36

I doubt they are phoning around trying to get someone to sort out the flowers or catering last minute. Everything has been in place for years. They have to know when it is already. actually things like security need to be organised. Some police leave will need to be cancelled, officers deployed from other regions etc.

There’s a plan for what will happen, but the logistics of that plan can’t happen until after she died.

Not the online banks don’t. The call centres, the digital centres etc.

There are very few bank branch staff compared to online/digital/call centre staff, and all of those will remain open.

What happens in the event of a terrorist attack? Don't have days to cancel police leave etc then?

BrokenMatress · 09/09/2022 19:39

We have a C of E wedding on the 17th.
Really need to know. Might end up being a very big and expensive party.

VladmirsPoutine · 09/09/2022 19:39

If it's 19th - I reckon most people will be given the day off to mourn. Especially civil servants.

WhatIsThisPlease · 09/09/2022 19:39

Will it definitely not be on the Sunday?
