So they probably could have told us sooner.

Bridezilla I really hope it works out and for all those having hospital appointments/flights anything

blueblueskye · 10/09/2022 08:06

It’s on the Monday, I’m related to someone involved in the arrangements.

Sure you are 😎

Zippy1510 · 10/09/2022 17:23

19th has been officially confirmed

NeckFanInSoftPlay · 10/09/2022 17:24

TakeYourFinalPosition · 09/09/2022 18:50

There’s no plans to close businesses or schools. The government has a briefing on the mourning on the website, uploaded this morning. It won’t be a bank holiday. Employers can decide whether to close for themselves. From memory, they’ve asked major sports events to move times to avoid a clash as much as possible, but that’s all.

Schools & shops are closing

School isn't going to close. Why is everyone getting in a tizzy?

Just keep your garage/restaurant or whatever open

Yes they are closing

To think the queen gave a life time of service to a country full of heartless people.

Quite

lissie123 · 09/09/2022 19:03

Well I was in a vintage clothes shop today ( south west) and a call came thru to the owner of the shop- desperate lady needed black dresses her children for the funeral. For the queens funeral. 😳

Children (besides immediate family of course) will be unlikely to be invited to the Queens funeral ffs! Don't believe everything you hear!

I missed that post when it was first made, and it's definitely the stupidest on the thread.

I am, I posted to try and help 🫤. Preparations for her funeral started the day she died. What on earth is wrong with Mumsnet these days…such bitchy undertones.

WimbyAce · 10/09/2022 17:49

Sounds like it will be a normal bank holiday on the 19th so I'm guessing it will be only essential services for NHS and everyone else will be off.

But as shown above people have a habit of declaring things to be true.

Schools won't be closing, it won't be a BH there are loads on here which are repeatedly shown to be rubbish so people no longer believe anyone that states something as fact without a source.

SierraSapphire · 10/09/2022 17:54

Honestly they announced in the last minute for me, tomorrow would've been to late to keep all my vendors. We're having to move the wedding for the next day. A hassle but better than cancelling. Hope everything works out for everyone else, especially people waiting for medical appointments!

SierraSapphire · 10/09/2022 17:56

Oh sorry EssentialGarage I think I misread your post and thought you were saying schools wouldn't be closed. Anyway, that's the Govt answers to various questions.

EssentialGarage · 10/09/2022 18:04

Bride I'm really glad you managed to salvage the day. The 20th September 2022 looks better anyway with all those 2's. I hope you have a wonderful day.

Sierra no worries, I'm not surprised as the world and his dog has been announcing thoughts as facts.

@NeckFanInSoftPlay RTFT I corrected myself a few posts later after realising I'd been reading the guidance for the period of mourning, not the funeral date.

Hope you've not been holding on for 2 days to correct me cause I beat you to it 🤣

MomsnetAdmin · 10/09/2022 18:12

At least there is a date now. Sorry to those who have had Monday weddings cancelled and any hosp appts on the Monday. Congrats to those with Saturday weddings!

The politest way of describing my class this year is immature. I won’t share the more accurate terms. Hardest cohort I’ve had in a decade. Traditionally middle class village primary.

I could have lynched them when they started pinching each other and fighting during that assembly.

I’ve been moved down to Y3 to reform them. Thinking I might need an IV of alcohol by October.

Timeturnerplease · 10/09/2022 19:15

Sorry, above reply to @Mammyloveswine

Sounds joyous! DN is year 3, and I know her teacher last year said that age group were one of the worst affected by the impact of school closures in lockdown.

They can’t announce a bank holiday at short notice, everyone’s hospital appointments would have to be cancelled and then what, does everyone go to the back of the queue? Or have to come in on Sunday instead?

I would assume hospitals have a plan in place as this hasn’t come as a complete shock.

When the Queen’s in her 90s then it’s hardly surprising that she may die soon and I was always told that when she does there will be a back holiday.
So I’m sure business and hospitals would have everything put in place for when she did die.

I would assume that things like non-emergency hospital appointments would just be delayed a day. Which isn’t ideal but would cause the least disruption.

You can’t just delay a patients appointment one day, consultants have fixed slots for clinics and booked up months in advance. The following day they could be on a ward round/in theatre etc. Also clinics need the space so the following day another consultants clinic will be in, you can’t see people on the car park. Let alone all the elective day surgery that has to be cancelled due to staff being off. Bank holiday NHS staffing is like weekend or night level of staffing.
