There is a no fly zone over the UK on Monday ( they said this yesterday on the bbc news ) which gave some a hint I think !

Sorry but no, I rather suspect somebody is mistaken/misheard.

AFAIK none of the usual official sources for this- not the BBC but the CAA, NATS - the UK air traffic people, have published anything containing dates yet, and I don't for one minute think anybody is considering a no fly zone over the whole of the UK.

Given what happened for previous major Royal/States events of this type in London (but obviously not ones of this magnitude) I suspect you'll see:

Temporary closures (an hour or two, maybe less) of the airspace at low altitude over central London, possibly also around Windsor..and maybe short lived restrictions into/out of the London airports, especially Heathrow....The BBC may have been alluding to that sort of thing being a probability.

My son has a hospital appointment on the monday. Do you think it will go ahead if they pick monday?

How about you ask the hospital, not a chat group full of strangers…………

kateandme · 10/09/2022 13:19

Supermarkets?

I say Monday 19th. Can't book a food delivery slot on that day.

Can't book anything on Tesco for Sat 17th Sun 18th or Monday 19th, so they are hedging their bets there!

Ignore the pp, it is a forum for chatting, we are all speculating and discussing and anyway how you would get an answer on a Saturday I don't know.

If it is a routine appointment I think it is most likely that it will be cancelled. (If the funeral is Monday)

I’m due to fly abroad from Heathrow Monday morning 😫 anyone know if this is likely to be cancelled

See my reply to a PP of a few minutes back....

IMHO, that's all it is, if the funeral is on Monday then depending on the timing of your flight you might see delays (due to either some temporary airspace restrictions or perhaps a halt on activity, two minutes silence type thing, as a mark of respect at some point), but I doubt there are going to be mass cancellations simply because of the funeral.

Heathrow has operated around State events in the past, though I accept not ones of quite this magnitude.

user1471427614 · 10/09/2022 13:24

Thanks esstainalgarge.

In response to pp. I will of course contact the hospital but once the date is confirmed. They are busy and dont need bothering yet. As with many people I was asking for opinions and wondering. Feel free to not offer yours if you want

Waitrose have only blocked out the 19th

For the county that gave the world “keep calm and carry on” there sure is a lot of people acting like The whole world is imploding for one day. Life is full of curveballs. Hospitals are still going to be hospitals, firefighters will still fight fires. Somethings will close for the day but you’ll just have to wait and see.

Assume that your wedding isnt potentially being cancelled then?

It's monday 19th I reckon - they've just to fully announce it. I say this because suddenly I can't book a delivery slot on Monday 19th, literally with any supermarket.

I didn't realise you couldn't get supermarket delivery slots on bank holidays.

You can’t if the shop doesn’t have any staff to pick them.

i think you should expect a cancellation email.

Will everything be shut?

We saw some friends last night and no one is interested in watching the funeral. We were pondering a pub get together…

I wondered the same TBF. But I suppose even people that work in pubs might want to watch the funeral? So might depend on the pub.
i am also thinking of things to do that don't involve watching it.

Does marking it official bh mean it’s a MUST to close?

Porcupineintherough · 10/09/2022 14:36

Making it a Bank Holiday means schools and many businesses will close. But if they make the day of the funeral Sunday 18th then things will be less disrupted.

No, but it gives fuel to the keyboard warriors

The Queen’s long-held Christian faith in the Anglican tradition would preclude a Sunday. In the Church of England, church funerals are never, traditionally, held on Sundays.
