I'm wondering if it might be a Tuesday or Wednesday in part to avoid people treating it as a fun bank holiday and a chance to get pissed.

MomsnetAdmin · 10/09/2022 11:30

Although not common, you can have a bank holiday on a Saturday of course. Cancellation of normal activities on Monday 19th far more likely now.

But even at Christmas and NY you get a day in lieu.

The King just did you pleb !

Can't read a thread without someone being nasty!

TomAllenWife · 10/09/2022 11:40

They have planned this for years
With scenarios thrown in like what if she dies in Balmoral

So with that actually happening it makes the process slightly longer
They're also not counting the Thursday because it was so late in the day

It is most likely to be 19th

Twiglets1 · 10/09/2022 11:41

I think frontline hospital staff due to be working that Monday (assuming it is Monday) will still be asked to work because hospitals don’t close on bank holidays. They will get time off in lieu I expect or paid overtime.

Violashift · 10/09/2022 11:41

I fo agree but the arrogance at which people spout statements as fact is grinding.

Lmao too late here, still happening in this house!

AuntieMarys · 10/09/2022 11:41

Dh will still be working and there'll be no day off in lieu either

Oh dear is he someone who never gets bank holidays off then?

LakieLady · 10/09/2022 11:45

I really hope it's not on the 19th. I have a benefit tribunal that day and the poor client has already waited 8 months for her appeal to be heard. If it's cancelled, she'll be utterly distraught.

Plus, I don't normally work Mondays, so won't get the benefit of it being a BH!

Absolutely heartbreaking. They've done it this weekend with the football and they'll do it next weekend with so much more, ruining people's lives and showing that the class system is alive and well in this country. I hope your client still gets her case heard

zingally · 10/09/2022 11:48

Based on the whole "12 days of mourning" thing. I would guess Monday 19th or Tuesday 20th is the most likely. If I had to pick one, I'd say Monday 19th.

Thing is, I'd bet the same, but in my particular case, there is no way to change wedding plans until they formally announce the date. So no matter if the date is 99% the 19th, and everyone knows this, people's plans are still up in the air until they announce. Until then it's speculation, no matter how well rooted in reality, and no one will move a thing for speculations (in my case at least).

EssentialGarage · 10/09/2022 12:05

Bridezilla my issue is much more mundane than yours but I also can't move Mondays jobs on a possibility. Where exactly I am going to move them too is another issue.

It should be added to your leave entitlement for you to take later. You can’t be disadvantaged.

Noteverybodylives · 10/09/2022 12:11

They can’t announce a bank holiday at short notice, everyone’s hospital appointments would have to be cancelled and then what, does everyone go to the back of the queue? Or have to come in on Sunday instead?

I would assume hospitals have a plan in place as this hasn’t come as a complete shock.

When the Queen’s in her 90s then it’s hardly surprising that she may die soon and I was always told that when she does there will be a back holiday.
So I’m sure business and hospitals would have everything put in place for when she did die.

I would assume that things like non-emergency hospital appointments would just be delayed a day. Which isn’t ideal but would cause the least disruption.

greenhousegal · 10/09/2022 12:15

So much for the donkey's years of planning for this and London Bridge down preparation. There was always a back up plan for her death in Scotland.

Anyway looks like we have to wait and see.

Another week of sombre tones.

Non emergency hospital appointments can’t just be delayed a day can they? You would have to cancels Tuesdays appointments to accommodate Mondays 🤔

"I'm sure Hospitals have a plan in place"
Lol. Will just be seen as an unexpected bank holiday and run without planned operations / clinics. Ie emergency service only.

EssentialGarage · 10/09/2022 12:18

Lol about all the spare capacity in the NHS and general business to just fit in a whole country's cancelled appointments.

Probably. My DH doesn't get Bank Holidays off, his shifts run 4 on/4 off, 24/7, 365 days a year.

Blimpop · 10/09/2022 12:20

It's monday 19th I reckon - they've just to fully announce it. I say this because suddenly I can't book a delivery slot on Monday 19th, literally with any supermarket.

Cantthinkofausername01 · 10/09/2022 12:23

I start a new job with the scottish government on the 19th, so I assume the date will change, very annoying

I think it will be the Saturday but I'm just guessing like everyone else.

I don't think they had the date planned for years!
