Diana’s was on a Saturday - 6 September 1997, although that wasn’t a state funeral.

Winston Churchill had a state funeral, that was on a Saturday.

BarrelOfOtters2 · 10/09/2022 12:31

They've announced a bank holiday for it but not confirmed the date 😕

Noteverybodylives · 10/09/2022 12:31

Non emergency hospital appointments can’t just be delayed a day can they? You would have to cancels Tuesdays appointments to accommodate Mondays

No I assume everything will be delayed a day.

Monday would be delayed until Tuesday.
Tuesday delayed until Wednesday.
Wednesday to Thursday etc etc

I don’t know.
I’m just thinking that would make the most sense and would cause the least disruption.

the80sweregreat · 10/09/2022 12:31

There is a no fly zone over the UK on Monday ( they said this yesterday on the bbc news ) which gave some a hint I think !

the80sweregreat · 10/09/2022 12:33

Diana's funeral was less formal as she was divorced from the now King at that time
It wasn't a state affair

OverTheHillAndDownTotherSide · 10/09/2022 12:11

It should be added to your leave entitlement for you to take later. You can’t be disadvantaged.

Thanks @OverTheHillAndDownTotherSide !

I wondered if that might be the case, but I wasn't sure if the same applied to ad hoc BHs.

Wednesday to Thursday etc etc

This causes the most disruption as everyone for months will be disrupted.

Reality will be Mondays appointments will be cancelled and shoe horned in over the next few weeks.

AuntieMarys · 10/09/2022 11:41

Dh will still be working and there'll be no day off in lieu either

I would put good money on us being the same.

We don't get bank holidays off apart from Christmas/new year.

So all international flights are cancelled or rerouted for a day? Rubbish

KazMa · 10/09/2022 12:45

I’m due to fly abroad from Heathrow Monday morning 😫 anyone know if this is likely to be cancelled

I know, it's getting painful now isn't it? Just say the date already. Hmm

EverydayIsPJday · 10/09/2022 12:49

Be super helpful to cancel my pre op tests on the Monday 🙈 aargh. Noones fault but I have no idea how hospitals will cope.

I honestly doubt it. Would be a logistical nightmare sending all the letters out. I recently had an appt at a hospital clinic cancelled at the last minute (I turned up but there were no doctors, 20 patients all got sent home). My rescheduled appt was 8 weeks later. They didn’t say come back tomorrow. Which means by surgery has been delayed by two months.

i’m assuming for critical patients such as cancer patients they will squeeze them in much sooner.

cheninblanc · 10/09/2022 12:50

Medical appointments will be cancelled and rebooked, it isn't possible to just move everything by a day due to clinic rooms, staff availability

the80sweregreat · 10/09/2022 12:52

It's only what I heard on the tv yesterday about the no fly zone on tv, maybe they got it wrong ?
That will be flying people in from all over the place !

I'm led to understand that there will be a no fly zone over London on the day of the funeral, but I'm not 100% sure that the information is correct.

KatherineJaneway · 10/09/2022 13:02

I say Monday 19th. Can't book a food delivery slot on that day.

Unless wind conditions are unfavourable for a westerly takeoff, no.

DamnUserName21 · 10/09/2022 13:03

Yeah, I saw Monday 19th too but unconfirmed

CrabbitBastard · 10/09/2022 13:04

What roads will be closed and will they be reopened the next day?

It'll likely be phone calls, at such short notice.

‘It is thought to be taking place on Monday 19th’ according to what a bbc commentator said within this morning’s coverage
