Having a breakdown over oat milk. Please help!

I need some mass power here. Someone please help an autistic woman out here. This is a huge deal and having a significant impact on me right now - although I recognise it's trivial.

Aplro have changed the colour of their oat milk packaging from a cream/beige colour to blue. The milk is also whiter and now separates in.my coffee whereas it didn't before.

What oat milk do you use that doesn't separate in coffee? Alpro oat is the only one I've used for a long long time.

I feel foolish and embarrassed because I know it's trivial but this is so important to me.

OP, I am not autistic but I absolutely hate it when brands discontinue something that is clearly the perfect product, and my morning cup of tea is practically sacred to me, so I'm glad your problem is resolved and that you're not facing a terrible oat milk dilemma!

I don't have any allergies but I cannot STAND full fat cows' milk or UHT milk in my tea instead of fresh semi-skimmed cows' milk, and it completely ruins my comforting tea ritual that keeps me sane, so I definitely sympathise.

I use Alpro My Cuppa. It tastes just like milk and is fantastic in tea or coffee as well as to drink on its own

I like My Cuppa, and it does work particularly well in tea, but it's chuffing expensive!

We get oat milk from milk and more in the reusable glass bottle

Thelnebriati · 09/09/2022 15:37

Instead of trying to find something thats identical, I try to have an acceptable back up that I know will be a bit different.
I now use coconut milk in coffee. I can get a dried coconut based coffee creamer in the local international stores for the same price as supermarket creamer. It doesn't have to live in the fridge. There are recipes online and it would be easy to make your own dairy free version;

@ChristmasSirens and others, thanks for the recommendations. Some to try. I'm trying to go dairy free and whilst I can drink my coffee black, the lack of milky calories is an issue for me right now :-)

I've tried various nut milks and they all totally overpower the coffee to me. Coconut in particular was like drinking conditioner! I don't like any sort of syrup or sugar in my coffee and a lot of what I've been recommended ends up changing the flavour too much.

MrsMattMurdock · 09/09/2022 16:58

@Whoareyoumyfriend it's a brand of oat milk I get by mail order although I think its in Morrisson's. It doesn't curdle in tea or coffee.

forrestgreen · 09/09/2022 18:36

Aldi doesn't separate. They ran out and I tried soya, it looked like sick...

stayinghometoday · 09/09/2022 19:22

Have you tried making your own? Once you have a recipe that works for you, you'll never have to deal with packaging or recipe changes. It might take some time tweaking it to your liking but in the long run you'll be more independent on the oatmilk front.

Pomopot · 09/09/2022 19:27

Don't feel embarrassed op and glad it's been a mix up. I have autism and have cried before and had such a huge meltdown when products that have become such a staple and safe food in my life disappear, it feels unnerving!
Regular oatly is gross but I really like the batista one, I think it's the thicker texture I like.

Bywayofanupdate · 09/09/2022 19:30

Oatly barista 👍

Totally understand. For tea, I think the Rude Health GF chilled stuff is slightly better personally. For coffee, either that or the glebe farm pure oaty (creamy and enriched version).

There are other options if you don’t care whether it’s calcium enriched. But be very, very careful to check your info is on a U.K. based website. We were taken in by oatly because the claim to be GF on the American website but the US standards are much lower.

YetAnotherNameChange52 · 09/09/2022 21:17

I've got two sons who are diagnosed as on the spectrum OP and, although DH and I have never been diagnosed as there doesn't seem to be a point, there are definitely elements in both of us, so I totally understand.

FWIW, we like the oatly barista one too. Hope you find what you're looking for!

Honeyroar · 09/09/2022 21:46

I own a coffee shop and use the Aldi oat milk. It’s way better and way cheaper than any Alpro one, even the barista one, and is half the price.

Suzi888 · 09/09/2022 21:57

@Honeyroar What is the Aldi one? I’ve never seen any such milk my local…. and does it make a proper builder tea? Thank you in advance!

Ladyofthelake53 · 10/09/2022 10:09

The Aldi oat milk is usually with the other long life carton milk on shelf above. They do soya and almond also
