Having a breakdown over oat milk. Please help!

I need some mass power here. Someone please help an autistic woman out here. This is a huge deal and having a significant impact on me right now - although I recognise it's trivial.

Aplro have changed the colour of their oat milk packaging from a cream/beige colour to blue. The milk is also whiter and now separates in.my coffee whereas it didn't before.

What oat milk do you use that doesn't separate in coffee? Alpro oat is the only one I've used for a long long time.

I feel foolish and embarrassed because I know it's trivial but this is so important to me.

Lactose free milk?

Find all the alternatives separate but take out the lactose and that's the issue for me.

Asda do own brand at 1.20

Burnt0utMum · 09/09/2022 07:38

Aldi oat milk. Used it for a few years now and it never separates. Great price too.

Whoareyoumyfriend · 09/09/2022 07:39

@wibblewobbleball it is definitely a Real Big Problem. 😂I'm glad you understand. Everyone else seems to by the helpful responses here too. Thank you all.

I only recently received my diagnosis and so much about my life now makes sense.

I've got this morning off work so am going to go trawling.

My coffee definitely hasn't changed and probably never will. I make it the same way every time. The alpro milk is the wrong colour pack, wrong taste and smell and the milk is whiter. Everything about it is wrong

My issue is with the proteins in milk rather than the lactose

I use Aldi unsweetened ost milk, its realky nice especially in coffee its creamy. Its in a red and beige coloured carton

Ladyofthelake53 · 09/09/2022 07:42

I have a hiatal hernia that's why I use it

luxxlisbon · 09/09/2022 07:42

You need to use the Oatly whole milk or minor figures which can be harder to get. Anything else is watery and gross.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 09/09/2022 07:42

I dint buy oatly but minor figures and califa are good. Don’t separate.

MrsGhastlyCrumb · 09/09/2022 07:43

I've used the Aldi own brand in coffee- it doesn't separate. Another trick we used to use when the only alternative was soya milk was to pour it over the back of a spoon held above the cup. Worth a try?

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 09/09/2022 07:43

Thanks @newjobwhodisperhaps. Making Amazon order now :)

We get ours from the milkman (milk and more), I much prefer it to the named brands.

Thiysone! The brand Milk and More (also our milkman) have in bottles is called Oato. So plastic free and good in coffee!

Whoareyoumyfriend · 09/09/2022 07:44

Black coffee is a very possible alternative.

I really appreciate all of the suggestions.

Another vote for aldi mine won't drink asda lidl or the new oatly one!

Vinylloving · 09/09/2022 07:45

Oatly barista is the only one that reliably does not separate in my experience. Plus it is fortified with minerals etc

JobSeekingMissile · 09/09/2022 07:46

@Whoareyoumyfriend is it the Alpro barista you've had issues with or just normal alpro oat milk?

psychomath · 09/09/2022 07:49

I don't like normal Oatly either but their barista version is my favourite of the ones I've tried. When it's not available Minor Figures barista is the closest substitute I've found. Not sure if it makes any difference but the Oatly packaging also has a beige theme (am also autistic but don't have a big problem with packaging changes so don't know what helps!)

BeesKnee · 09/09/2022 07:50

Any barista style oat milk will work fine for you.
most of the supermarkets have their own brand.

the new blue alpro is a new ‘not m*ilk’ range, aimed to be closer to dairy milk. I agree it’s awful.
you should still be able to get the original kind though.

if you can I’d avoid oatly.
They are an awful company, their products are very processed and they’ve had a lot of issues with making people unwell.

stopitleaveitgetdown · 09/09/2022 07:50

@Burnt0utMum yes I love the Aldi oat milk but the last two days my local hasn't had any 😫😫😫

Tigofigo · 09/09/2022 07:50

Minor Figures do a semi skimmed Barista milk, called Barista Oat Light if you aren't too keen on the creaminess of usual barista it's a good option (but can be hard to find in shops). They're also a British company who try to source their oats in UK.

Moma barista is good too.

Oatly I try to avoid since they took funding from a company associated with deforestation.

I HATE it when milk curdles in coffee so I am with you!

Suzi888 · 09/09/2022 07:51

Alpro my cuppa- proper builders tea and good with cereal. I can’t tell the difference between Alpro and cows milk.

psychomath · 09/09/2022 07:51

By the way I'm sorry if this is a really stupid question, but are you sure you haven't just picked up the non-barista Alpro by mistake? My parents use that brand and IIRC the non-barista version has always been blue, and it would explain the different colour and separating.

Oh really, in what way? I assumed they were all the same

WoodlandMummy · 09/09/2022 07:53

Oatly Barista is v good but I stopped drinking it as it is so unhealthy 😞

How do?

Mabelface · 09/09/2022 07:55

Another vote for milk and more.

OP, I'm also autistic and completely get where you're coming from!
