To be sad that Queen has died but can't wait for the sycophancy to be over

I am no royalist but like many in the same position I am truly moved by today's historical news

It is a "once in a lifetime" moment for many of us and I am going to admit that despite strong Republican views I surprised myself by being knocked sideways by news

Not that it wasn't expected and that the Queen hasn't had a good life but by the sheer magnitude of what is happening

However other threads seem to be dismissing the fact that we can feel both - sadness that an elderly individual who was "known" to all of us has died and an unwillingness to join in the "grief jamboree".

I feel like I did when Diana died - I am struggling to recognise the grief others are manifesting and the absolute deferential attitude present here

I feel like this will just build and build and we will be exhausted by end of it

I guess we don't know. The not knowing is what makes it undemocratic. And not even cloak and dagger undemocratic. Those meetings were scheduled, happened in plain sight, and will continue to happen now with KC, friend of Savile and tampon fetishist (those last two bits, we do know).

Have you time to point me towards evidence of those points? I don't doubt it, but I'd love something concrete up my sleeve ready for the onslaught from my LT loving in-laws tomorrow!

The Savile matter is on the Netflix documentary at least. I'm pretty sure I heard it elsewhere, probably on the Louis theroux programme.

The tampon story was front page for weeks, back when it broke - 1990s, maybe?

He's 73. He's had a life time to learn how to do this. Hardly a novice.

Basically, I can't get past the idea that your birth makes you'better' than anyone else to be a head of state. I just can't.

In am alternate universe, where I were Queen, ds would be my heir. He would be shit. Dd would be miles better. In fact, someone else might be better still, but good would have decided that ds should be king. It's nuts. Properly fucking bonkers. It made more sense in the days when a monarch decided the next heir. But then, if I were monarch, I'd totally do a Duncsn and keep it in the family. Which is why we shouldn't have a monarchy. I've felt this since I was very young and I just can't get past it.

Think they left let out the part where she lobbied them to hide her wealth from the proles. Those weekly meetings were obviously pretty damn useful.

Were we ever in doubt about her wealth?

YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse · 11/09/2022 07:33

Well she got away with not disclosing how rich they actually are so yes.

Indeed.
