A continuation from thread 2. This is a place to mourn HM Queen Elizabeth II with respect and compassion, and to share our thoughts and feelings. RIP Our Wonderful Queen.

I thought it unusual that William drove Andrew and the other royals, rather than being driven by security. I think by that point they knew that the Queen had died and didn't want leaks.

JubileeTissues · 09/09/2022 01:36

"She was, quite simply, our strength and stay."

Her words about her husband, bit odd to steal that and make it about you/us?

Don't be silly - everyone knows that very famous quote, who said it and what it was about. The Queen’s beautiful words about her husband simply seemed fitting on this very sad occasion too.

I'm almost certain they knew she was gone before they got on the plane. If she was still living the other grandchildren would also have travelled.

Bbc wouldn't have had the hours of waffle either, I think they knew too but had to wait for the right time to announce it .

SleeplessInEngland · 09/09/2022 07:35

I always wondered how hysterical or stoical everyone would be when it finally happened. At the moment I’d say it’s somewhere in the middle, and if anything leaning towards the latter, which is a pleasant surprise. I think doing the whole “she’s really sick” announcement to build up to it was good crisis management.

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 09/09/2022 07:58

Lol at the pp sombrely trying to make an allusion and being pounced on for “stealing words”

Dinoteeth · 09/09/2022 08:17

They were being very careful with words. They said something about "resting at Balmoral and being looked after by doctors"

Also how was BBC going to end that coverage if it wasn't the end. "Oh HMQ is all better now🥴" They knew she was gone before the cameras got fixed on the Balmoral gates.

LookItsMeAgain · 09/09/2022 08:27

@BitossiBlues - thank you for sharing that video...I always thought Her Majesty had a wicked sense of humour. She seemed to me to have a bit of a twinkle in her eyes that she could be up to mischief somewhere in the royal house holds, but you never knew quite where or when the mischief was about to happen.
It's made me smile today. I think we should all try to smile today. Remember her funny moments, her good times, her smile, her twinkly eyes.

I agree with the posters who mentioned the number of things that will have to change but again, these places will have made plans for that sort of thing. Currency will have to change, passports, any documentation that has her image on it that is legally binding will have to change over to His Majesty and his image. I thought there was a very striking image on the BBC or The Guardian's website yesterday. He genuinely looked handsome in it.

For anyone who is interested, this is what we can expect over the next 10 days:

LookItsMeAgain · 09/09/2022 08:30

Interesting to read in the link I posted above, that the coffin is likely to be flown to London, and not transported by train to London as was in previous reports. Not sure if there is any significance to it but I thought it was interesting.

RedToothBrush · 09/09/2022 08:30

I had to re read your post. His Majesty completely threw me.

We were watching the 6pm news, and I said "they're just filling time, waiting for the announcement".

the80sweregreat · 09/09/2022 09:14

His Majesty
The Kings horses
The Kings Counsil
Stamps and coins
It'll all change.

LookItsMeAgain · 09/09/2022 09:28

There is a post on an Irish news website called The Journal taking us through the expected event schedule.
Charles has a lot of travelling to do, even though he'll be grieving for his mother. He'll be visiting the 4 home nations before the funeral takes place.
However, it was the last line in the report that really did me in:

💔

Vapeyvapevape · 09/09/2022 10:05

I've been looking at the photo of the Queen shaking hands with Liz Truss .It's so surreal to think that no one had any idea that this would be the very last picture taken of her .

ScribblingPixie · 09/09/2022 10:26

I read in the Times that she also did an investiture that day, so perhaps someone else had the honour of being her last engagement?

Vapeyvapevape · 09/09/2022 10:32

I didn't know that , what a special memory to have .

SleeplessInEngland · 09/09/2022 10:37

Guidance from Cabinet Office published.

Royal mourning applies to royal households and national mourning for govt and public bodies.

“There is no expectation on the public or organisations to observe specific behaviours during the mourning period”

Dinoteeth · 08/09/2022 23:20

@cardibach. The Queen is dead, long live the King
I was half expecting them to say it when they announced she had died. I'm sure I heard it said in some film or other.
Do you think anyone ever actually says it?

At least it sounds like it makes sense this way. When a king is replaced by a king it’s a bit spooky.
I imagine it is used in some internal formal occasions. The first announcement by the doctor maybe?

Festoonlights · 09/09/2022 11:13

I hope you are all managing okay.

We have been getting through the last 24 hours on our threads. I have just ordered some clothes for the funeral, I intend to pay my respects to the Queen. We will also go to see her lying in state.

I have no words.
I am like everyone, shocked, devastated and so wish we could have her back.

Thank you for all of your posts and contributions.

I used a stamp today and felt surprisingly sad about it. I wasn't expecting to.

purpleboy · 09/09/2022 11:31

It's hit me much harder than I expected. I cried quite a lot last night, and still this morning find certain stories or pictures will set me off again. These feelings have totally taken me by surprise.

I'm not very eloquent, but she was a symbol of GB for me, she's just always been there.

I feel very sorry for Charles having to get on with his new duties whilst probably wanting to just grieve his mum. I also hope they all had a chance last night to be together as a family for each other to remember their mother and grandmother rather than the formalities that is expected of them from the public.

I am enjoying hearing peoples personal stories and memories of her and it's lovely to hear about her sense of humor, she really did have a beautiful smile and a twinkle in her eye.

RIP and thank you for your years of dedication and service.❤️

Watching Charles and Camilla walk past all the flowers at Buckingham Palace. He doesn't look ready for the chaos to come. They both just look distraught.

Blossomtoes · 09/09/2022 15:02

I disagree. I thought his engagement with the crowd was very touching and he got his reign off to an excellent start. Camilla does look shellshocked.

Yes his engagement with the crowd was. I'm talking about them walking past the flowers afterwards. It was like he put his game face on then when they were looking at the flowers and could breathe he was incredibly emotional.

Dinoteeth · 09/09/2022 16:46

I thought he looked OK, but totally agree Camilla is shell shocked. I wonder if it's partly being referred to as King & Queen thats getting to her.
