A continuation from thread 2. This is a place to mourn HM Queen Elizabeth II with respect and compassion, and to share our thoughts and feelings. RIP Our Wonderful Queen.

Heads will roll over that ink.

Also thank god this wasn't a few year ago when Rees mogg was head of the house of commons. Penny Mordaunt is perfect for the job and doing it so well.

I would have to agree.

She spoke so well knowing that the eyes of the world were on her, what with it being televised.

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 10/09/2022 10:43

Appalling size of table.
I can't believe that he had to grapple with pens and ink at such an important moment and that he had to tell some one to sort them out??
Where was the rehearsal??

Somelme should have said that and tried it out.

Heads will roll over that ink.

What with all of this pomp and ceremony being steeped in history, thank goodness the guillotine has been archived as in the past they genuinely would have. Now it means that they're going to be out of a job!

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 10/09/2022 10:44

Penny' and Liz doing an extremely good job at such short notice.

YoniWheretheSunDontShine · 10/09/2022 10:45

I loved Camilla eye roll at the seal business.

And her cheeky grin.

Interesting listening to the comments by Simon woolley and the woman (whose name I missed) and the point that Charles has had 70 years of education to be king and to know this country and to know the world in a way that others haven't had. It looks like he seeks to learn things he doesn't know. Particularly things that are help important to his subjects even if they are overlooked by politicians.

We talk about the knowledge and wisdom of the Queen. I think we understate what Charles has been in the position to learn. It's a completely different thing to that of politicians. He doesn't have to be a populist or please his party.

I would have to agree.

She spoke so well knowing that the eyes of the world were on her, what with it being televised.

A number of people who have spoken in the past few days have struggled with a break in their voice and stumbled over words.

She didn't.

I noted a few signed the documents with shaking hands.

The decision to televise this must be with Charles and even that is something.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 10/09/2022 11:11

i wonder if they had already made any changes, ie, unform etc,m all for Edward viii , who abdicated after a year!

the80sweregreat · 10/09/2022 11:11

Penny Mordaunt did well today

the80sweregreat · 10/09/2022 11:12

They have all stepped brilliantly

MrsLargeEmbodied · 10/09/2022 11:29

flags should go up
then down again while we get on with mourning
very strange times, which we are not used to

Who do we think might make a suitable flip side to the bank notes with King Charles III on the front? I think have to be British/English, possible deceased, or not maybe?

David Attenburgh
Ian McKellan
Dame Judi Dench
Lord Coe
Peter Andre
Barbara Windsor
Jordan (aka Katie Price)
Rock (from Gladiators)
Liam Gallagher
Rastamouse

Or maybe a suduko on the £20, a crossword on the £10, perhaps snakes and ladders for the kiddies on the £5?

Sad face :(

My mum and I both expected Charles to actually sit on the throne that was there, after all the signatures etc. I know this isn't the Coronation, but he has been proclaimed the King, and the throne is there.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 10/09/2022 13:01

I gasped a little at the throne - it felt a little raw.

Did I hear right that Mordaunt mentioned 'Her Majesty' at the start? Does anyone know why?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 10/09/2022 13:11

i believe they talk about her majesty's death

YetAnotherSpartacus · 10/09/2022 13:15

It was something about the witnesses and the first one being 'Her Majesty'.

I should try and google it.

Wouldn't Camilla, now as Queen Consort be considered a "Her Majesty" as she is queen?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 10/09/2022 13:19

Wouldn't Camilla, now as Queen Consort be considered a "Her Majesty" as she is queen?

That would make sense! Is that the case? What is her official title?

Off to Google again..

Blossomtoes · 10/09/2022 13:22

She is Her Majesty, she was referred to using that title at the proclamation ceremony.
