A continuation from thread 2. This is a place to mourn HM Queen Elizabeth II with respect and compassion, and to share our thoughts and feelings. RIP Our Wonderful Queen.

Oh! You are right! I think in my mind there is only one 'Her Majesty'; I naturally assumed is was EIIR. :(

YetAnotherSpartacus · 10/09/2022 13:15

It was something about the witnesses and the first one being 'Her Majesty'.

I should try and google it.

Camilla is now HM the Queen Consort isn't she?

Antarcticant · 10/09/2022 13:44

I imagine, in time, Camilla will be informally referred to simply as 'the Queen' - once we have got used to EIIR no longer being there.

inappropriateraspberry · 10/09/2022 13:47

Queen Mary was Queen Consort and was always known as simply Queen. Just like Philip was never called Prince Consort.

inappropriateraspberry · 10/09/2022 13:47

Mary the Queen mother I mean!

Antarcticant · 10/09/2022 13:50

If Camilla outlives Charles, it will be interesting to see what she is known as. She won't be 'Queen Mother' because she won't be mother of the King. Dowager Queen, perhaps.

RedToothBrush · 10/09/2022 13:50

They were saying just calling them the King and Queen is fine but there is a period of adjustment atm so using Queen Consort to avoid that.

They keep referring to the Prince of Wales and thats throwing me cos that's now William.

SenecaFallsRedux · 10/09/2022 13:54

I think if Camilla survives Charles, she will be known simply as Queen Camilla; Catherine will be The Queen. The Queen Mother had that designation to distinguish her from her daughter who had the same name.

One of the people in the commentary pod referred to CIIIR as 'The Prince of Wales' this morning. This is going to be a bit like the start of a new year - for the first couple of weeks you are diligent in writing '2022' but then you lapse back to writing 2021, until it properly embeds in your psyche that the year is 2022 and you write that unconsciously.

The Queen Mother's full title was Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.

When the Queen became Queen her Gran was still living too. There are photos of the Three Queens.
Queen Mary
Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother
Queen Elizabeth

The 3 of them were together at the funeral with black vales.

Dinoteeth · 10/09/2022 14:52

If Camilla outlives the King she will just be Queen Camilla.

That photo is so haunting.

Queen Mary wasn't the Queen mother, she was George VI's mother.

The Queen mother is the living mother (or grandmother) of the King at the time.

Would that not be the King's Mother rather than the Queen Mother.

I'm sure the Queen Mother was added to differentiate the two Queen Elizabeth's, never heard Queen Mary get referred to as Queen Mary the Kings Mother, she is just Queen Mary.

Antarcticant · 10/09/2022 16:46

No, the 'queen' comes from her being still a queen, the mother comes from being the mother of the monarch; it's queen mother whether we have a king or a queen.

Veeragall · 10/09/2022 16:50

Queen Mary was only ever Queen Mary. The title of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother was created to differentiate between Elizabeth II and her mother as there were 2 Queen Elizabeths.

inappropriateraspberry · 10/09/2022 17:50

Sorry, realised my mistake! Not feeling well, and was tired. Have just had a nap. I think I meant both! Queen Mary (Grandmother) was known as Queen as was Queen Elizabeth (queen mother). Neither were actually Queen.

LookItsMeAgain · 12/09/2022 14:58

Just catching a glimpse of the cortege making it's way to St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh and saw Princess Anne walking behind the hearse and thought, doesn't she look smart in her dress uniform?
I mean I realise that she too is mourning her mother but she is holding it together very well and looked so smart as she was walking.
