A continuation from thread 2. This is a place to mourn HM Queen Elizabeth II with respect and compassion, and to share our thoughts and feelings. RIP Our Wonderful Queen.

Prince Edward will become (not immediately) Duke of Edinburgh. The Queen made it known that he should be given this title, but not until after her death.

That's very interesting. DD is just embarking on her D of E bronze award, and I had been thinking this morning about my sister and dad meeting Prince |Philip many years ago when she got her gold award - and was wondering if the title would ever be passed on.

JubileeTissues · 08/09/2022 21:03

"When Charles gives William this title, will the Cambridge children become known as the Wales children. That must be confusing for children?"

They probably won't tell them until they're ready to

So they will?

I wonder why they didn’t just use the surname Mountbatten Windsor then for everyday (school) use and use the titles for formal events only?

Dinoteeth · 08/09/2022 21:10

Charles was crowned Prince of Wales at a ceremony at Carnarvon Castle. I'm guessing they'll sort Charles Coronation first then do the Prince of Wales one.

It was me that typed 111. I know the correct term but I couldn't find that option on my phone! It's obvious what I meant...picking up on it was childish.

Crikeyalmighty · 08/09/2022 21:18

I've yet to meet an intelligent grounded person who gives a f* what Harry or Meghan are doing or not doing- I for one am not remotely suprised he wanted out.
Those who are obsessed in a negative way, get a grip . You don't know them, it doesn't matter to you, the media big it up and often make it up too, because it sells papers , magazines and on line digital clicks.

I know this shouldn't matter, but, wasn't she just absolutely beautiful! All through her life. That smile!

She was. Her skin was amazing.

"This.

There is a strong possibility she passed away nearer to noon today. I hope Charles made it to her bedside to say goodbye and be with her even if she was not aware he was there. Nobody should die alone and while she wouldn’t have been alone, having a family member there if possible would have been right."

Princess Anne was there

Was Charles not there too?
He was at Balmoral at the weekend because he was at the Braemar Gathering.
He was probably on standby for the Liz Tuss meeting incase HMQ was unwell too.

He has a home nearby. They've been there for a while. Princess Anne was staying at Balmoral though with the Queen.

there will never be another like her

ShhDoNotTell · 08/09/2022 21:39

I’ve had periods of being emotional throughout this evening. I was thinking about it earlier, how the Queen, for me, is the epitome of what I think it feels to me to be British. She represented resilience, bravery, and grace. I think she was a tremendous woman, and I think it’s easy to forget how young she was when her father died, and she made that sincere pledge which she has carried out, with poise and humility, right until the end.

There have been some lovely tributes on the news, and I had a good cry watching the history of her, with her childhood photos and the coronation. I can’t imagine how she must have felt with the responsibility of the entire nation on her shoulders. And she was a woman in a primarily man’s world.

I don’t consider myself a Royalist at all, but there is no doubt she was an incredible human being. I’ll miss her solid presence. She was the backbone of this country.

Well to think she was so ill with this mystery illness and yet worked on Tuesday?

Working Tuesday could well have been the step too far. She's been resting most of the summer. Given that Charles has been in Scotland visiting her daily in recent weeks could be indicative that they've known she hadn't long left.

As it is Tuesday was still only a short photo op with a closed door chat with the new PM. At home. It wasn't a massive engagement. And yes, even putting on the brave face for that might have been too much.

BitossiBlues · 08/09/2022 21:50

This is brilliant! From 0.50

girlmom21 · 08/09/2022 21:51

I'm glad she did that last engagement - she is the Queen who did her duty from start to end rather than the Queen who became too frail. Wonderful lady.

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2022 21:53

The Queen was so photogenic!
She wasn't a classic beauty , but she had class and charisma and the camera loved her!
She was iconic , a legend

Yes!

J K Rowling said she was the thread that went through our own lives and it's true.
Always there. Through the good times and bad

wonderstuff · 08/09/2022 21:56

So if Elizabeth led us through an Elizabethan age, what era are we in now - Charlian? Doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

Vebrithien · 08/09/2022 21:57

Not afraid to say I've had some tears here.

When I told my 6yo DD, she said it was sad "but at least I've got my book to remember her" (the jubilee book given to school children).

When Brighton and Hove was made into a city, I played my violin for her, at the reception. I was about 14, and 4 of us played Pacabel's canon. I remember her walking past, and saying to the mayor "such lovely music". I will always associate her with that piece.

May she rest in peace and rise in glory, and may light perpetual shine upon her.

BitossiBlues · 08/09/2022 21:58

I think @RedToothBrush said we are now in the third Carolian age on the previous thread.

the80sweregreat · 08/09/2022 21:58

The Charlian rein !
It feels weird

Antarcticant · 08/09/2022 22:01

I do quite like the link with the 17th Century!
