Wedding on day of Queen’s funeral!!!

The Daily Mail are saying funeral is on day 10 of mourning. Assuming tomorrow is day 1, is that not Sunday 18th? What happens to a wedding on that day?!

Do you think the OP's wedding guests were friends of the Queen? I mean it's possible, but unlikely

Oldrockingchair · 08/09/2022 19:52

I hope things aren’t all closed on a Monday - I’m self employed and need to be at work or I won’t get paid. I can’t afford to lose £200 cos an old lady died.

How many brides have guests who will be at the Queen’s funeral?

They could work in the household or something. They employ a lot of people. Or they might just want to attend the funeral procession. Or watch on TV.

Not in the spirit

There's a lot of it about!

Really? Is that an English thing?

Yes you can, I got married on a Sunday. You can get married any day

nachoavocado · 08/09/2022 19:53

I'm not saying the bride will be friends with head of state etc but there are a lot of people who work for the Royal family and then you have people who just liked and respected her majesty and want to attend to pay their respects.

It’s already a public holiday here on the Monday in Edinburgh!

Was just wondering about this- think we’ll get an extra bank holiday elsewhere since we already have that date?

Wow the most bizarre thread I've read for a while

OvertiredandConfused · 08/09/2022 19:54

I went to a wedding on the day of Diana’s funeral. It was fine. Brief mention during the service (that didn’t detract) then a fabulous day.

fyn · 08/09/2022 19:55

It’s definitely +10 or +11 if day 10 falls on a Sunday.

Don't be ridiculous
Nobody would sack off a wedding for the queen's funeral

Agreed !!

EndTheMonacyNow · 08/09/2022 19:57

It might work out ok as it will make it a long weekend so will be easier for your guests.
I think a lot of people might want to watch the funeral even if they arent actually that sad that the Queen has died so I think it might be a little tricky if the marriage was actually on the same day.

SierraSapphire · 08/09/2022 19:58

The Times is saying Saturday is the "expected" day of the funeral.

Timed that well didn't she!

I would want to watch it. Perhaps set up a TV like people do for the world Cup. A quiet zone for reflection.

JemimaPiddleDick · 08/09/2022 19:59

Presumably vicars are a bit busy on a Sunday

TwinGirlsOnTheWay · 08/09/2022 19:59

Go ahead. If any of your guests pull out, you know who your friends aren't.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 08/09/2022 20:00

savemeagin · 08/09/2022 19:47

The Monday will be a day of national mourning - I can't imagine any weddings would be allowed to take place. Shops, banks will all be closed. I can't imagine a register officer would be open and I very much doubt a vicar would perform a wedding on a day of mourning for our monarch.

So what on earth are people who are due to get married on the day of the funeral supposed to do? Everything will be planned and paid for. Does wedding insurance cover cancellation due to funeral of the monarch?

Pinkpeony2 · 08/09/2022 19:50

I would be amazed if a Church of England will marry anyone on the day of the funeral of the head of the Church of England. Just won’t happen. Funeral date hasnt been confirmed yet.

Yes, there will be memorial services I would imagine?

Haudyourwheesht · 08/09/2022 20:01

I'd imagine people you know trump people you don't.

Nothing says 'happily ever after' like an elderly lady's funeral on a big screen in the next room.

PacificState · 08/09/2022 20:03

Eek. Not mine but I'm a guest at a wedding on the Saturday. Really feel for any couples caught up in this (much as I'm rather surprised about how sad I am about Madge)

Daisybuttercup12345 · 08/09/2022 20:03

My nephew is getting married on a Sunday next year. UK

EntertainingandFactual · 08/09/2022 20:04

I read it goes like this:

Today 8 September: D day (they call it this apparently)
9 D1
10 D2
11 D3
12 D4
13 D5
14 D6
15 D7
16 D8
17 D9
Sunday 18th Sept D10 Funeral

Possible that they will have it on Monday but who knows…
