Wedding on day of Queen’s funeral!!!

The Daily Mail are saying funeral is on day 10 of mourning. Assuming tomorrow is day 1, is that not Sunday 18th? What happens to a wedding on that day?!

I didn't realise you could get married on a Sunday.

You can get married on whatever day you like!

Yes - even if not me, someone people will have their day ruined as I agree I don’t think they can go ahead

are people sure it can’t be a Sunday? Why?

I suspect it will be a Monday as it will be a National Day of Mourning and everything will be closed.

It would go ahead presumably! I mean it's the 21st c now not the 50s.my nans friend was buying some fish for her cat in the middle of seeing her the fishmonger stopped mid way and shut the shop,. Tiddles was disappointed! The Queen was a wonderful monarch ,now Charles long awaited turn

What a stupid comment.

Calmdown14 · 08/09/2022 19:39

It can't be a Sunday. It's written into the London bridge protocol

Freixene · 08/09/2022 19:39

Definitely won’t be the Sunday. Most likely the Monday. It’ll be a bank hol so might work out for you

Yeah that would actually be pretty great timing for you OP.

whenwillthemadnessend · 08/09/2022 19:42

Your all assuming it's business as usual. I really dont think it will be.

anotherpotoftea · 08/09/2022 19:42

Jewish weddings are often on Sundays.

MissAmbrosia · 08/09/2022 19:43

I thought the Queen didn't want a BH

Slightlystressedbride · 08/09/2022 19:43

Well I've found a few news articles OP saying it would be unlikely to be on a Sunday. Really got my fingers crossed for you. We're in London too so double nightmare! I hope we'll know before this weekend.

I had also read it won’t be a bank holiday

Like you, I thought the funeral was D day +10. If others are right and it can’t be on a Sunday then that will mean you are likely to be ok. I think those with weddings booked for Monday may have difficulty though. I’d be surprised if either the Church of England or registry offices were performing marriages that day. It will be a day of national mourning with government offices shutting down. I hope people affected are able to find alternatives. I feel for anyone affected.

Yes they must have some sort of plan in place for this I guess?

Doidontimmm · 08/09/2022 19:46

It’s already a public holiday here on the Monday in Edinburgh!

dormouses · 08/09/2022 19:17

Get married? Accept some guests will feel unable to attend.

Why wouldn't guests attend ?

I thought the Queen didn't want a BH

Why? Do people not deserve to be given time off to pay their respects? Even those who work in banks?

They have a funeral to attend? Funerals trump Weddings

savemeagin · 08/09/2022 19:47

The Monday will be a day of national mourning - I can't imagine any weddings would be allowed to take place. Shops, banks will all be closed. I can't imagine a register officer would be open and I very much doubt a vicar would perform a wedding on a day of mourning for our monarch.

I don't know op, but I'm fairly certain her guests won't be invited to the queens funeral.

MadameMinimes · 08/09/2022 19:48

Things will shut down but it won’t be a bank holiday. It will be a day of mourning.

I’ve not seen anything that would make me confident that it definitely can’t be a Sunday. I’d be cautiously optimistic but I think you will need to wait for the official announcement to be sure.

Might do. The funeral will be quite big.

How many brides have guests who will be at the Queen’s funeral?

mumda · 08/09/2022 19:50

EmmaGrundyForPM · 08/09/2022 19:16

I didn't realise you could get married on a Sunday.

The registrar charges more for a Sunday.

Pinkpeony2 · 08/09/2022 19:50

I would be amazed if a Church of England will marry anyone on the day of the funeral of the head of the Church of England. Just won’t happen. Funeral date hasnt been confirmed yet.
